I have heard that back in the 1970’s Nolan Ryan threw 100 mph but the pitch velocity then was measured when the pitch crossed the plate and now it’s measured when the ball leaves the pitchers hand. I don’t know how true this is but it would certainly make a difference in mph. Could be another baseball myth but is interesting nonetheless.

If you watch Trevor Bauer's video on his RUclips channel, he consistently throws anywhere from 89 to 92 FB. On TV, when he is pitching, those same FB's hits regularly 93 to 95 on the radar gun on the TV screen. Basically MLB is juicing up the velocity 2 to 3mphs to make the game look more exciting to the viewers. Those pitchers throwing 97 to 98, probably hitting 94 to 95, hard but not that hard.
