that´s how paice´s band or records should sound like ... more space for drummer, more funky, more inventive, modern, more interesting .... pity purples didn´t came with something like this ... this is so worthy, paice´s energy is like from the best era ... 1972, but this song and solo really sounds even more interesting than anything before !! killing, i was afrading he lost his energy, but he didn´t lost anything
In 1972 I was on the cusp of becoming a teenager, and Ian Paice was my favorite drummer in the world, hands down. but this studio session is unFUCKing believable. WOW!! Thank you for this!!
IAN...IF YOU EVER READ THIS THE DRUM SOLO YOU DID ON THE MULE OF THE MADE IN JAPAN ALBUM.,,STICKS WITH ME TO THIS DAY....SUCH A PASSIONATE DRUMMER...POWER WITH SOULFUL FEELING...I CAN NEVER EVER GET THAT SOLO OUT OF MY HEAD ...LONG LIVE THE MULE AND MADE IN JAPAN....''and i want everything louder than everything else'' and bless those ludwig drums you had...one tom two floors simple but very very effective...back then all kids wanted a ludwig...i finally got one back in the day and the sound is fantastic a 1979 set....
It goes without saying...Mr Paice has always been thee master drummer since way back. He has always been an ingenious rudimentary drummer ...this is what separates the men from the boys. Will always be my favorite drummer. The double kick pedal towards the end of the solo ..absolute blow away. Ian Paice has never truly received the respect he so rightly deserves from the drumming fraternity. Go Paicy Go..
I'm embarrassed at 59 I didn't realize how good of a drummer Ian is! Cool Awesome studio jam, thank you for posting this awesome video. Peace from Detroit MI.
The one and only. So rhythmic, you can dance to it. His crashing on the ride cymbal is a jazz move. His double kick work here is reminisant of "Fireball".
Paice composed - to me - the best rock rhythm "riff" ever: the intro of "Fireball". No one could exceed it, not even he. Lot drummers's legs are quicker than machine gun but the big bulk of them play without pulsing and creativity. I,m an exception: my legs are not quick, but play without pulsing and creativity. Greetings from "Fungary!:)
bataca89 Difficult to say because when you really stay to think I would add Bill Bruford while another may add Phil Collins and probably only a paper width between them all but the speed and dexterity of Ian Paice's hands make him one of the greatest drummers in rock. Burn and Fireball need I say more but I was always disappointed he used a second bass drum on Fireball as spent years trying to tie it down without one.
That snare just sounds so nice, each time I watch this video I try to get my Tama snare to sound the same. I know Ian use Pearl, but I can get mine close.
Right... Because I don't play drums nor do I wear glasses... If that would have happened to me thousands of times over the course of 22 years of wearing glasses and playing drums, it would be different. But I don't play drums nor do I wear glasses so what do i know
Floor tom was like.. "hahaha SNARE-O is getting all the stick today...." Snare was like..."HA! wait till he gets to 5:40 mate" Kick was like.. "GUYS!! we're all doomed at 7:40...embrace for impact!"
Damn Straight - Made in Japan 1972 Gold Album is one of the best live works of any rock band ever. The instrumental in Child in Time is the very definition of power swing which Jon Lord and Ian Paice invented. Ritchie is of course great in that version of the solo, but the underpinning is where the interest is. Listen to Ian and Jon. Roger covers beautifully as well. The Mule is brilliant and the last 2 minutes of Smoke is Ian at his power swinging best.
Listen to Child in Time as well as the instrumental descends out of the Hammond B3 solo, and into arguably Blackmore's best solo of all time. Ian Paice invents "Power Swing" as it drives the band through the instrumental with an amazing combination of touch, speed, rudiment excellence, and unbelievable time. Also notable are the bridge section of Smoke on the Water which is not on the studio version at all towards the last 2 minutes in the song. Just another power groove. One of the all time classic live albums for hard rock bands.
Sorry don't agree at all. Ian Paice took the Buddy Rich method of big band drumming and applied to it to loud electric blues. Keith Moon was never a huge fan of Big Band/Heavy Rock type blues - Moony like surf music and blue beat and old school R&B. Moony and Paice are just DIFFERENT not better or worse...
@@kewlfonz To each his own. I do believe Keith Moon achieved brilliance on Who's Next, but other than that I didn't like much of his work, and I really found his physical approach unappealing. Your comments on Ian Paice's Big Band influence, which was no doubt Buddy, Gene, and Louie is spot on. They were very different. But I cannot say Keith Moon was not a good drummer because his performance peaked on one stellar album.

Mine is like 1968.
Gets a fantastic groove going and never loses it. That's how a solo is done.
Good ol' Paicey, rippin' it up as always:-) He's such a great, jazzy hard rock giant drummer!!!! Just gotta love him:-)

Ну вот сколько можно иметь такого кайфа... Тяжелейшая работа! Просто жизнь.

I love how the snare is a bit after the beat!
That creates the groove!
Волшебство
This is so classy.. Love it, love it!! Comfort food for the ears.😁
The one and only. So rhythmic, you can dance to it. His crashing on the ride cymbal is a jazz move. His double kick work here is reminisant of "Fireball".

bataca89 HELL YEAH! I've always said the same thing. They got me started on the drums. Can't forget Ginger Baker though..
The drummer who turned me onto rock music,with".... In Rock";-)Paicey and drummers like him(Bonham,Powell,Baker,Moon,Palmer, etc.)were one-offs!!
Being a left-handed guitar player and drummer, I could relate to this. Good he stuck with his left hand lead.
this is so sick and groovy
Nicely Paiced!
Monster bro. 👍👍👍👍👋👋👋👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Só o mestre PAICE! SHOW! THE BEST!
VERY under rated drummer!!

Wow !!! Quel batteur !!! Son solo est tellement particulier et parfait !!!

Когда я был молодым ,была поговорка,Пейс стучит ногами как другие руками
1:52 There's only one drummer on this planet capable of keeping a groove like this going whilst scratching one's nose!
Or were the specs slipping!?
Not that uncommon ...Not that hard
You don't know what you're talking about.
Right... Because I don't play drums nor do I wear glasses... If that would have happened to me thousands of times over the course of 22 years of wearing glasses and playing drums, it would be different. But I don't play drums nor do I wear glasses so what do i know
Laidback.. and smooth :-) And a great sounding Peral Drumkit !
mmmmmm lo amo
I like but vėry classic but i like
Power Swing- Ian Paice invented it. Go back to Hush, so far ahead of his time. Best example is Child in Time -Made in Japan 1972 guitar solo
Best
SEi un grande
Nice
and mine too!
Dat snare....o_O
Floor tom was like.. "hahaha SNARE-O is getting all the stick today...."
Snare was like..."HA! wait till he gets to 5:40 mate"
Kick was like.. "GUYS!! we're all doomed at 7:40...embrace for impact!"
In the pocket 👍
@DHRC18 damn right!
👍👍👍👍👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Folks, that's why you practice your rudiments until it hurts!
the drum solo is more interesting and tells more of a story then the guitar
Ginzer Baker and Ian Paice
It sucks getting old and you know what im talking about. If not go watch some mark 2 live shows from early 70's
Ian and Mike Shrieve were the only rock drummers who could play actual rudiments. The others played only singles.
My two favorite!
Anyone knows what kind of hats is he playin?
Alberto González Studio 15“ Medium and live 15“ Sound edge. Both Paiste
Good demonstration of how a great drummer can make very meidiocre players sound good
I would to see a jam session with Ian Paice and Michel Cusson on the guitar. it will be amazing...
Intersting, funk is not really his style but nice to see the versatility.
Paice jazz-funk-blues-rock -progressiv drummer)).
Pearl? Wow. Imo once a Ludwig man always a Ludwig man. Must be indorsed by Pearl
6
video and sound not properly cynched
ממציא עצמו מחדש....תענוג
that reverb on the guitar is killing the detail on the top end a bit :/ Great stuff though
what kind of sense does that statement make?
Lefty drummer...lefty guitar player !!!!!!!
+Da Ca / Sorry, lefty Bass-Player!!!
A SANTÍSSIMA TRINDADE: BONHAM, PAICE E BAKER. MAS CARL PALMER PERDE NADA PRA ESSES.
The only thing that would make this solo better would be a stripper danceing to it.
Keith Moon was not great. Very messy drummer. Just a nutter and that's what made him famous. Ian is Class! Listen to the Mule Made in Japan Album.

The most unfunky and generic Funky Blues I've ever heard
