I don't bother w/ the silliness, just appreciate the men who accomplished these feats or whatever u wanna call it. I can love Bonham's drumming, I can also love Paice's, or Carl Palmer, all a matter of what u like. It would be stupid to like one drummer and hate the other only bc one is more popular.
@@bluewater3783 dont forget ian paice is a really rock jazz drummer than bonzo. He's totally badass as bonzo.. Maybe bonzo just had good sound in recordings. Anyway jimmy is the guy who help him to get the sound right. But!, You see 'burn', all the chops in that song are coming from the jazz fills. He did the strokes while the vocal flow, can you imagine about his idea?
Unquestionably well deserved! It simply doesn't get any groovier and/or unique than Bonham played well ;) IP awesome too of course (!) but far more standardised in terms of rudiments design.

A benchmark video that I will go to for inspiration for my drumming. Great examples of flawless technique, fluidity and execution. Did I say fluidity? Wow. I've been playing for a couple of years and am starting to get my way around the kit pretty well for a beginner. I've been told I am a natural, but that only gets you so far. It takes a lot of practice just to be a mediocre drummer, but I get better and better. Another five years or so of playing everyday, as I do, I might get good. I never picked up drumsticks until I was 50. Maybe before I am dead I could play like this. May not happen but it's something to shoot for. I enjoy my drumming for better or worse. It's a part of me now.
That is awesome brother. I've been playing drums since I was a junior in high school n I'm 51 today. compared to these kids today and all the things like this great video they have to their advantage that is even considered a late start. Because I didn't have a drum set n the cash to buy one for practice I really didn't know what a triplet was or how to do it correctly until just this year n I'm still working hard to get it down tight because of all those years playing in bands n faking things like that and because I was a natural like you I had ways of rolls sound like triplets or whatever lol.My senior year I joined jazz band n there were 3 other experienced drummers in the class who had been playing since grade or middle school n they were all seniors too. Boy was I nervous one of them was a butt head towards me n would laugh at me if I messed up wich didn't help my nerves but our teacher who is still teaching there today,, the first time I ever sat behind a kit n tried to play a beat told me I was a natural. Long story short, the butthead n the others were doing all the songs at the beginning of the year and by the end of the year I was doing most them as the first drummer lol. I was 17 years old n the following summer I played my first professional bar gig with a older very good n well known band around here . I took about 8n a half years off n the whole time I was depressed n just felt like something was missing in my life. Thanks to my cousin who helped me threw my depressed days I'm playing again. He said ""dude you are one of the best drummers around this area your missing your music, your passion , the thing that makes u happy lol!"" So i just started playing gigs again last year n I'm playing better than I ever have n doing things on the drums I never thought I could do. Drumming is good for the heart, soul, stress and clarity of mind!! So keep it up n never lose what makes you you. Have a great day and God bless

I consider myself a modern drummer because I'm only 22 but man I can't get enough of those 70's style drum sounds and grooves! What an experience it must have been to watch the greats like Bonham and Paice live back in the day!
Probably one of the best drummers i have ever heard period. Incredible chops but also so swinging and not afraid to be simple at times. The buddy rich style solos you did were also mind boggling good

I spend hours on here watching drum technique videos, and have for several years. That was by far the best drumming I have heard/seen. Just fantastic. Great job!
I have to agree that this video stands out partly because of combining two of the Legends of rock and also the incredible finesse that he pulls it off with! If you haven't already checked him out see Akira Jimbo and the Casiopea band. The whole band are all incredible players and their music is so uplifting.
Nicely played. Every drummer knows Bonham inside out but not many know Ian Paice as well but they really should as he is phenomenal and great doubles. I remember learning Fireball and for years thinking that was in the bag and then I watched a teacher on here and found out Paice plays 3 notes on the cymbal and not quarters. That is the amazing thing about Bonham and Paice you can always learn something new no matter how well you think you know the songs.
+JohnQpublic I would not disagree with that at all. Ian Paice uses a lot more rudiments. He is an old man now but I saw him at a drum clinic a few years ago and he can still play a single stroke roll with one hand quicker than I can play with two. Definitely a great drummer. For listening to rudiments I also like Carl Palmer.
+JohnQpublic I completely agree though he played at speed in different time signatures 5/4 6/8 etc so I will forgive him but his timing being raised as an issue is something I have noticed myself but I had some drum teachers when younger who refused to use him as a teaching aid as they thought his timekeeping suspect. I agree this is true for ELP but his work with Asia is much better with regards to timekeeping.
+JohnQpublic Definitely much steadier I agree. That first Asia album has a lot of big songs on Only Time will tell and the classic Heat of the Moment. I like the riff on Sole Survivor too.
Robert Miller I agree but there are lots of good drummers if we take the time to find them. I was listening to new Korn and Ray Luzier has a really nice groove and also like the drumming on the Oprah album Sorceress

finally someone knows how to tune...this might be the closest true bonham sound on ytube...impressive!!! and i'm very critical. you need to do a tuning video...also a how to mic to get a true sound video...guys get a close sound but mic poorly or mic decent and miss the sound entirely...just cause you have the bonham kit does not mean the sound comes in the boxes! well done. (wow...i made a similar comment a year ago and forgot...oh well, it's been a year and still the best sound out there)
last night i ran through about 10 bonham videos...only two were good, you and another on vistalites had the best sound...he captured that kits essence and you caught the classic sound...i will not mention the guy who tries to be a bonzo expert here, but man, he needs to watch your videos! lol

excellent incorporation of Bonzo and Paicey......love the classic lugged toms and that wonderful Ludwig tone. I think Paice has the greatest snare control of all the classic rock drummers. Paice, can be a super funky drummer when he wants to be.......Bonzo too, of course. Great technique and taste, sir....really inspiring.

It's funny because I studied the Carmine Appice Realistic Rock books when I was a kid and I attribute the Bonham drumming style coming to me naturally because of this.
I noticed that too. And, like you, wasn't the least bit surprised. Shame, though, 'cause I think he blended their two styles very nicely. And, with a kit that sounds like a perfect cross between the two as well.
bravo!! that was just beautiful! i used to play drums as a teenager - wish i could've played like that! amazing stuff. bonzo and ian paice were two of my favourites as well along with phil collins, neil peart, alan white, bill bruford.
Ian Paice is so good that 99.9% of the times all he is playing in his songs and solo's is Single Strokes, Double Strokes and Single Parradiddles. Personally, I've always like him better than Bonham because he sounds and plays like a Rock-N-Roll Buddy Rich.
I've been drumming 46 yrs. I have always had a 26 inch bass, I love your groove, I played in a Zep cover band in 1977 in High School, we played every album out at that time, nothing beats a classic Ludwig set, thanks for the memories, and your hard hitting style, I did a small recording at the Guitar Center under keith Howard olsen Maynard mass, and solo 2, its popcorn compared to your playing, but its what I have after not drumming for 20 yrs. you are awesome dude!
Thank you kindly. I always preach about, it's not what you play but what you don't...(the space). Rests are very important the same as playing the notes but "playing" the space on a conscious level is often overlooked.

Vineshroom tune the resonant side high and the batter side medium. get a 24 or 26 inch bass drum

Ian Paice is so good that 99.9% of the times all he is playing in his songs and solo's is Single Strokes, Double Strokes and Single Parradiddles. Personally, I've always like him better than Bonham because he sounds and plays like a Rock-N-Roll Buddy Rich.
I've been drumming 46 yrs. I have always had a 26 inch bass, I love your groove, I played in a Zep cover band in 1977 in High School, we played every album out at that time, nothing beats a classic Ludwig set, thanks for the memories, and your hard hitting style, I did a small recording at the Guitar Center under keith Howard olsen Maynard mass, and solo 2, its popcorn compared to your playing, but its what I have after not drumming for 20 yrs. you are awesome dude!

Thank you kindly. I always preach about, it's not what you play but what you don't...(the space). Rests are very important the same as playing the notes but "playing" the space on a conscious level is often overlooked.
