Nothing Phone 1 | Camera Review, Gaming, Battery Life & Everything You Need To Know!

- Reviewing the Nothing Phone 1, including an unboxing, full camera verdict, gaming tests with CODM and Genshin Impact and beyond. The Nothing Phone 1 is battling with the best mid-range smartphones of 2022 like the Pixel 6a and Samsung A53, so should you buy this first-gen device with its funky Glyph lighting? Well, there's a lot to like here, but you'll have to endure some rough edges.
On the plus side, Sony's IMX766 camera sensor is as dependable as ever here. I found the Nothing Phone was good for shooting photos almost any time of day, with respectable ultra-wide and selfie snappers also on board. That primary camera can also record 4K video, although with warm, warped results.
Performance is also a winner thanks to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 778G Plus chipset. Gaming wasn't an issue on the Nothing Phone 1, with PubG and other lighter titles running well - and even Genshin Impact maintained a smooth frame rate for the majority of play time.
It's not all roses and wine however. Battery life for one isn't as good as many rivals. The Nothing Phone will only last a day if you're careful, topping off at just over five hours of screen on time. The Nothing Launcher OS is also still clearly in its early life, with dodgy face recognition, lacklustre widgets etc.
So what do you think? Tempted by Carl Pei's first smartphone? Let us know your own verdict down below! And my reviews of the best mid-range smartphones are right here on Tech Spurt.

Thanks for checking out my thoughts on the Nothing Phone 1, hoping to compare it to the biggest and best mid range phones out there soon!
Can you provide a link for that headphone stand please?
pcoc f4 and nothing phone camera comparison would be great
You don't need to shred it, you had to just pull the ripped lined up tip round to remove the too part!
Do check out by new phone brand, out in 2023, 1000mp 4 cameras, 10000mah battery, 7 inch, amopoled, and support to connect with the aliens. Will offer 100 years of android update. Lets make something interesting, it will be called- ANYTHING PINEAPPLE!!!!
Thanks for the review, waiting of the best mid range phones video because it's really too complicated to make the choice between those mid range smartphone.
I want an 2022 amoled smartphone, with decent battery life, good design, no bloatware, at least 3 years of Android OS Update and 4 years of Security Update, good performance but i don't need necessarly the flagship performance, around 400€
Love the display design, no curves and no giant notch, a big flat oled, at least someone finally listened to what alot of people have wanted.

@@syedEpic2 I llike it
S20 FE was wayy ahead of y'all
@@syedEpic2 What do you expect? Inferior lightening port and a notch as well?
@@clickbaitpro he means the symmetrical bezel like the Pixel 5 and iPhones.
You completely decimated that box! It's supposed to have a little pull tab that rips it open. But hey as long as the phones out of the box that's all that matters, yeah?
It's not a impatient proof box.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I honestly tried to rip it as carefully as possible, maybe that was where I went wrong - should've used the bandaid approach, quick and clean. Hopefully they'll just do a normal box for Phone(2)!
@@TechSpurt Phones are so minimalistic nowadays, next time there will be no box.
@@TechSpurt sir i like 2022 se top variant but i have Mi A3 can i transfer 🗿
Probably the cleanest review of this phone (removing all the hype) I’ve seen on RUclips.
It looks like a solid phone and the form factor is nice too.
Fantastic review as always, thanks for putting it together ✌🏼
The most useful was the front facing Led light on Samsung S8, which turns red when charging, and have different colour for every messaging app...it's for notifications which got missed
They could potentially add this feature with just a small circle of leds lighting up at the top of the screen
Coming from using a Galaxy S8 to now a Pixel 5, I use aodNotify to help me know when I have a notification waiting to be read
@@diamonddoom1538 what is an aodnotify

That's perfect and clear cut review covering everything about the devices 👌👌
Great review, I find it hilarious how you smack the phone around when it freezes, this was fun to watch.👍👍👍👍
Been waiting for this before taking the plunge to purchase this phone! Thanks.
yes I'm really considering this one now. I have a Samsung A51, which has become very slow over the past year (a geek bench test gives me scores less than half of Nothing phone (1) ) so I'm eager to upgrade later this year. I was planning on either the S20 FE or S21 FE, but honestly I tend to care more about physical design than software features so this feels almost tailor made!. I love the flat iPhone 12 esque front, back and sides, and the completely symmetrical bezels are awesome! Plus getting wireless charging at this price point is amazing!
same man , got an A51 and its really slow nowdays. Really looking forward to upgrading. I really love the "box y" design aswell
My dudes, buy a Poco F3. I've had for a year, bought it used, and this beast literally got better every 3 months or so from the updates and all that.
Look it up, you will be absolutely baffled at how good it is and how cheap it is. Best value phone ever.
And if the reviewers talk about the camera being half decent, then know that it just got fixed and the pictures are genuinely beautiful both in light and darkness.
And it had a dimming issue at launch but I never faced that, so it got fixed super fast.
Don't waste your money bois, get you a great product that will last years!
@@Markone99 Software and Security are not good on Poco. Everyone knows they come with delay and sometime they can decrease the experience. I bought a Poco F4 because i wanted to test it as a second phone but i would not recommend to buy a Poco. More another Samsung and not a Nothing Phone because i don't know well about Support Policy and Store even if i like the phone.
With a Samsung A52s or and S21FE, you can't have problems
was waiting for your review more than anyone else's. cheers
I'm considering Nothing Phone (1) right now, because I made some money in my part-time job. Thanks for nice review, I love all your videos. Also I'd love to have some web site or cloud folder with wallpapers you use in your videos (I couldn't find them anywhere).
Frankly, it's very tempting in terms of features and build quality, especially at it's price. And an upgrade from my dusty crack galaxy S9 to this beauty would really be a choice I'd take in consideration. Thanks alot for the review, you did a great job!
Pre ordered based on your review, i loved the oneplus one and its great to support a "new" company
I find it brilliant how you turned camera review footage taking into small family trips.
We don't necessarily have to pick between work and family.
Your little princess seems to be enjoying it as well!
Last time I was this early, my wife left me
Haha, happens to the best of us buddy!
@@TechSpurt is the nothing primary camera best under 400 dollar, If not can you suggest the best one. Thanks!
Loooool

Nice ambient music . Great vid
Like you, I prefer and miss the days of 5 ~ 5.5" phones, and you, sir, have shattered my hopes that this would be tiny. Damn you Carl Pei.
I've been suffering with the Pixel 6 and eventually got myself an S22 that I simply cleaned up (OS-wise... since I despise Samsungs OneUI) and while I miss some aspects of the Pixel, the size of the S22 is just about as big as I am comfortable handling. There just aren't enough options and there is absolutely no chance I end up switching over to iOS for their "mini" lineup.
So, once again, thank you for being the beacon, the one reviewer I can trust to have similar interests to my own.
Interesting phone! Unfortunately not available in the good ole U S of A. I have an iPhone 13 mini which I’m really enjoying at the moment. Keep it going Spurty!
Will do sir! And yeah, hopefully they'll bring it to the States soon, bit more competition always good
Get rid your iphone 13 mini
Haha, Love the mini review of the fountain's refreshing-ness, tucked away in this vid.
I respect that you dare to show off your cute wallpaper. Great reveiw!
Reminds me of the Mi A series...back to basic, light, and fresh phones running clean Google ONE. The extended software support makes this Nothing phone very tempting indeed.
Yeah the mi a series is missed.
We appreciate for what your vivid reviews man 👏👏
Lovely design (iPhone wise that people love a lot). White is awesome color, stock android is beautiful, iPhone doesn't let you arrange icons like I love to. Maybe price-features is adequate but it looks very clean and nice overall
Awesome vid... Love your anime wallpapers, where can I get them?
Thank you so much erik ten hag I didn't knew you do tech review and manage Manchester United as well!
good review and I have preordered my phone(1) so looking forward to trying it out soon

Now all we need is an Everything Phone.
Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
inb4 Apple "copy & paste" it
Great video, cheers mate
Thanks mate
Best and most helpful review on this phone I've seen
I really fancy one of these phones when they are more available
I think I like the black one more than the white though 😂
Now I got the clear picture and agreed with the flashy one colour disco shenanigans, either it might scare the house cat or the scary old black crows outside the window. Also would like to dunk more in the next comparison video, thank you mate! Cheer's
The glyph stuff is cool and all but I miss old school notifications lights. That was truly useful.
I reckon, those glyph notification is actually more flexible as lockscreen software feature than hardware leds. With hardware leds you stuck with that interface. As software feature you can offer more options.
Really good review as always. 👍👍 I've preordered phone (1) and hope it will be good. Choosed between this and Pixel 6a but picked the phone (1) because Pixel don't sell in Sweden and its expensive to import. 😀
Thanks Daniel!
Pixel 6a all the way!!! Google phones just have something nice about them 👍🏼
Have you got the phone? If you've got it, could you please tell me about your experience with the Phone (1)? What about camera performance, OS system, battery life, audio output and processor performance?
Every phone looks beautiful in your hand, because you put cute cool anime wallpaper on phone home screen. And that's why I want to watch the video by looking at the thumbnail of your video.
I love you dude! hahaha you crack me up and teach me stuff at the same time... bless you mate!
was waiting for this one, cheers!
Ta for watching!
the fact that a completely new phone manufacturer managed to get such a good camera quality is very impressive
Carl Pei isn't exactly new to phone manufacturing having co founded OnePlus.
Nice review... Was waiting for this... Pls review the xiaomi civi 1s
Sure it will do well but don't really like those silly lights on the back ! Stick with my Moto 20 lite. Well happy with that phone ! Good review bud, keep them coming 👍
Yo thanks for using Nazuna Nanakusa from Call of the Night as your wallpaper man, good review 👍👍👍
Even tho I recently got the honor 50, I'm getting this 1 as well. Really like the design.
I have been waiting so long for this 🙏
Thanks for this video!
I'm looking at the Nothing Phone 1, it seems to have pretty much everything I want; wireless charging, good enough cameras, good enough performance, clean software, good looking design, etc.
The Glyph interface is a cool party trick but it's definitely not why I'm buying the phone.
But yeah, look past the hype and it seems like a pretty good all-round package.
I'm looking forward to the comparison, the PIxel 6a looks tempting but it only has a 60Hz display...
right, if you ,,delete" that disco light ..this phone is actually good for that price, that battery life will be better with updates, fast system, 120hz ...
Aye, I think most people would be happy with this one, but also completely ignore the glyph stuff. It was a great marketing gimmick, so did its job I guess!
Hey mate maybe also look at a s20fe - better overall except for the design and optimisation of apps
Im yet to decide between the two
@@AntNotTony I have an A52 5G atm, I bought it because of OneUI and the Windows integration. It's my first Android phone though really...
I don't like OneUI and Samsung as a company at the moment so I'm not planning on going with them for my next phone, I want to experiment with other brands.
Plus, the S20 FE is older now and I don't think buying it would be a good idea at this stage in the product's life cycle.
@@jenik1337 those lights don’t effect battery
I always enjoy your takes! Unfortunately, it won't be available over here across the pond in The Colonies. LOL At least, not until Nothing lays out some $$ to get some carrier love as it were. It'll be interesting to see how the 6A does. I hear it has the same cameras as the 5 series. That, coupled with Google's software ought to make for some decent shots. You're daughter is, as we say in Wisconsin, a HOOT! Thanks again.
Seems from a few reviews i've seen that that the 6A has a huge problem in having terrible battery life.
One reviewer hasn't had a full days use out of the 6A in the time he's had the phone, and seeing as it's one of the slowest charging phones on the market (18w) it's a pretty big problem.
Thanks for another excellent video. If I were to branch out into the midrange price point, think the Pixel 6a would be my first choice, but this Nothing phone is just crazy enough that it might tempt a look. 🥂
don't buy it bro ,read reviews first !
@@roeal6867 I'm sticking with the S22+ so I'm unlikely to need a midrange set unless something tragic happens, but my curiosity is piqued.
@@drew311stylee the Pixel 6a initial specs doesn't look promising. Only 60hz panel, 18w charging, no wireless charging, and camera downgrade to 12mp setup similar to the pixel 5a. It gets the tensor chip though.
@Benjamin Jagun who's comparing it with Nothing phone..? What's there to compare.? Pixel 6a is just crap, just get pixel 5a or pixel 6. Tensor is just exynos.. And it's crap. Just weight for Pixel 7.
Brother i love ou for always using a anime Wallpaper on the phones you test for us
Nice job. Where can I get that headphone stand/ phone charger?
Hi Chris, thks for this interesting review. It don't fancy the glyph back at all, but it's refreshing to see a fresh design!
To answer your question about Ghibli, the Japanese pronuncation is "Jiburi" ;-).
📩👆
Yup! Ghibli is actually a name of a... desert wind. The word itself comes from Arabic, but is known to Miyazaki through Italian, so it should be pronunced as "Jeeblee".
I think this model will replace OnePlus in the future. Flaship killer version II but perfect more !
lol it wont.. overpriced and nothing special... it wont make a dent in the smartphone industry with this overpriced hardware
OH GOD..I hope it will be what i think it will be a dream come true we made it🌳🐉🐸♻️☘️🌲
I mean it cant be a flagship killer if most "flagships" phones have so many less features than mid range phones
Flagships apart from sony, LG and asus phones are not real flagshipss sonce theyreball missing Jack's and sd slots
@@mortuus4601 oneplus was best till oneplus 7 series...after that all the next phones are waste...
flagship killer what?
OVERPRICED
Started on the right foot in a crowded good tier of mid range phones, but we can surely find better options. At this price even a flagship from 2020 is better. It still gets updates...
Hi nice i love it, can u screen mirror from the phone to the TV?
Best review I've seen of this lad👌
👆👆
This seems like the kind of phone you have as a secondary and simply enjoy its features once or twice a day.
I don’t know if it convinces me to try to grab it as my primary. Although, it appears its software performance is highly reliable according to Spurt and much others reviewers. Hoping it goes well for the brand.
oh finally..👀
i been waiting for your review mate 🐈⬛
🐎
Seems like a decent blower that just needs a firmware update or two to fix and refine the software. I'm not tempted, but I welcome this new competitor to the android world. At least they made the rear different and interesting.
Thanks for the interesting comparison. Personally I use pixels because I have them figured out for the most part. I had Samsungs for years and got tired of the bloat. Future success buddy. Dave
Solid review as always..
But man, can you please share where you get your Anime Wallpapers? 😁
Thank you for the Review! Neat phone.😀
Great first attempt to make something that looks different. We sorely need something like this
What is ur view on the recent cases of dead pixal issue and green tint issue in nothing phone 1.
It’s definitely jibbly , great review as always Chris
Great clear honest review👍😎 was thinking about this after the release day, but the poor battery is a complete turn off!! A phone has to last a day no matter about all the gimmicks! Keep up the good work uncle Spurt 👏
A small front facing LED light, that has multiple colors for different apps, like I had on my pixel 2 and the always on display are a million times better and more useful than sticking a bunch of lights on the back of your phone. I love the design but I don't really think they though out the lights, unless It was designed to be a gimmick
Great video
I love to have a iPhone mini and a budget Android that's special, this is perfect.
I believe the Nothing phone 2 or 3 will be much more refined. That's what I will go for
Few years and hopefully they'll become the best Android or atleast side to side comparison with pixels...current situation is not so good and id like to be lil blunt..the back itself is hideous with the specifications itself...but that being said.. upcoming years might drop some amazing phones starting from next years.
Is the primary camera of Nothing best in 400 dollar and if not can you suggest the best one, thanks!
Better to go for the 2nd or the 3rd iteration as they will hopefully iron out the small niggles that are present in their first phone.Btw nice review like always, loved it.
Or just buy it and then sell it when they bring out the newer version down the line...
@@tylerb6066 haha that sounds like a plan🙂.
Review vivo v21e
Its an amazing budget photo even tho it was released year or two ago
Amazing amazing photography and android 12 runs smoothly as butter
hi, is there a lock button/gesture without uhi, is there a lock button/gesture without using the power button? Including the double tap to lock the screen or to wake the screen features?
Dude. Video recordings from THIS phone is absolute mental. Really good. But i don't like the audio pickup from microphone when videos was recorded with front facing camera. They lower audio bitrate for no reason at all, this phone comes with 256GB...
Hi... What is the price will be in Europe of the phone. Do you have any information about it??
Nothing have released a shit ton of updates apparently and the camera tech has apparently improved. Could you maybe re-visit and do a update as I love how detailed your reviews are! Was going to buy a iPhone until I seen Nothing offering somewhat similar for less - only downside is, it can not film in 4k@60fps :(
I wonder if this would be worth upgrading from my pixel 5. An iphone like chasey and basically no bloat stock android is all I ever wanted
Sauce for your wallpapers??? Absolute 🔥
Question what is the camera quality on apps such as Snapchat does the quality decrease or the same as other androids?
I love the design, I think he should have skipped the lights and used the money to go for the snapdragon 870 instead at the mo you are looking at snapdragon 855 performance. Get the poco F3 or F4 instead or a pixel 4 XL for next to nowt with great software.
hey man , what is ur daily phone? what do u use usually?
I just realized the glyph lights around the wireless charging coil with the accent on the top right is exactly what the apple logo looks like! 😲😲So sneaky
i like the vampire you showcased
I think CODM should maybe be fade out as a gaming test as most phones run it no problem. Instead, I wonder if Apex Legends would work better as its more demanding.
Enjoyed the video, keep up the great work.
I am always mesmerize with ur anime wallpapers
14:34 yeah, I can only confidently recommend this over iPhone SE 2022. It's not very competitive against other android brands within the same price range

With the existing deals for the pixel 6 for £449, thats truely hard for any mid range phone to beat and makes the up coming pixel 6a a mystery to me as the regular 6 is so much more phone for only £50 more.
📥
Was gonna get this, but with £150 off the pixel 6, I got that instead, glad I did now! 😁
Quick question, does the power brick of the oneplus 8 pro charge the nothing phone at 30watts? I'm thinking of buying the nothing phone 1 and i dont know if i have to buy a charger as well.
I can't unsee it!
It looks interesting, and I'm really liking it but I'll still lay low for now. There are so many problem in the phone to consider it as a recommendation for normal users also.
Where did you find these amazing backgrounds
I quite like this phone, better than I expected. IPhone without the notch look is appealing.
What phone is that on your desk? The always on display looks like it's a Huawei?
Hope I'll get a hand on when it's comes to my country ☺️
You may have to include tha pixel 6 for the side by side review, it's now being sold for £449 at most retailers.
Why?
I can't wait to see how photos will turn out with gcam installed ..
