    Beautiful repair and a learnsome lesson of that great spoolgun. Interesting to know that a spoolgun has its limitations on difficult to reach spaces. We've to switch to TIG then. Fabulous job Brandon. Aluminium is the least preferable ally I like to weld on. Very soft and the cleaning it requires. You can't permit making one fault whereas steel is more forgiving. Enjoyed it enormously. Thanks and greetz from holland.😃💯💥👌

    Another happy customer, Brandon!!! So, a few bucks, and a little time, and there you have it....a repaired item that is better than new.....those welds where they broke did not look too good!!! Love the use of the Crescent Wrench for straightening the metal. Good tip!!! Thanks and be well, be safe, and be Blessed!!!

    Hey Brandon, nice repair and a good explanation of the job as always. That's why I follow you and look at the videos. Aluminum is a very strange metal that you can compare with solder lad? when you don't see it, it's gone before you know. If people, who almost can't weld, ask me to learn them weld aluminum, I always say " start with stainless steel" that is much easier than aluminum. I wish you a very good weekend and greetings from the Netherlands.

    Brandon, I noticed you pulled the welds. Didn't you mention push the weld instead of pulling because of contamination?

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  2 месяца назад +4

      I did and you are correct. I had to do some manipulation because my settings were still a little too hot. The idea of pushing is to ensure you have good gas coverage ahead of your weld pool. I cranked the gas a little higher to allow for it. Good eye! 👌

      @BrandonLund I didn't mean to call ya out man, I'm sorry!! Just noticed it and I've tried it before and was wondering why you had did it is all. You may have done something that I could've tried or used is all. Keep on truckin!!

      @streamin2605 no no no I didn't take it as you being critical. I was impressed you saw it. I actually had to go back and look. Sometimes we do stuff from muscle memory and don't even realize it. It's all good brother 👍

    The original welds that broke...would say they were good welds or cold or not penetrated. I'm extremely new to mig welding aluminum with spool gun. Trying to learn via youtube. I was joining 2 square tubes....and had similar break...trying to learn how to make strong and not burn through.

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  13 дней назад +1

      I would say they were pretty decent. I think what happened is they tried to slide the heavy box, and the aluminum brackets got caught up and ripped it apart.

    Helpful video. It would have been even more helpful if the pressure setting of the argon would have been mentioned.

  • @Goldwing1500rider
    @Goldwing1500rider 2 месяца назад +1

    Reading reviews, using argon 75/25 ? Or pure argon ? So you increase the gas higher ? By what % ?? ( I didn’t catch all video) I know Tig uses argon straight. I have both bottles on hand.

    I have a silly question- you're using the same grade of aluminum filler as with TIG, I think- 4043-, so what is the advantage of TIG over a spool gun, assuming getting into tight spaces is not an issue (which it can very be for TIG as well). Is it penetration and bead appearance?

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  2 месяца назад

      It's actually a great question. TIG is much slower but will give you better control over heat and a more consistent tightly stacked bead appearance. Spool guns are for making money. They are fast if your welding anything 1/8" and up and you don't need that tightly stacked bead appearance. I generally go right to a spool gun because you can also fitup using one hand, unlike with tig you need one hand on the torch and the other on your wire.

    Brandon, why do you think those welds broke? What do you think the are chances of them breaking again?

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  2 месяца назад +1

      I believe that the person was trying to remove the box and accidentally dropped it.

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  2 месяца назад

      They sure were! I did an aluminum boat dock repair today that had ripped the dock apart rather than the welds breaking. That's how it should have broken.

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  2 месяца назад

      I'll also add that I see that type of cold weld quite a bit doing repair work. It's pretty common on production work.
