That song reminds me so much of my youth. The first dance with a classmate at a party. The hug, the smell of her perfume, her face right in front of my face, looking in her eyes. And the first shy kiss ... oh my God. Time runs so fast.
Welcome to the REAL world of all time hits. Still as powerful today as it was when it was released in 1967. The arrangement is beautifully done and I would have loved to be at the concert performance.
The tears are beautiful, the organ (a Hammond B3) is haunting, and this is one of the best songs ever written. It is timeless, as evidenced by young people being SO moved by it.
This song was based on The Canterbury Tales , The Miller's Tale..A collection of 24 Stories, They were written in Middle English in 1387 - 1400 Stories of pilgrimage
This song should be used in therapy for people who have been so traumatized by God knows what that they can't even cry. This song seems to touch everyone deeply.
This is a "classical" interpretation of a hugely popular rock song from 1967. The gentleman playing the piano is Gary Brooker, the song's composer. The original recording was by Procol Harum...Gary Brooker's band. At the time, Procol Harum was somewhat popular in England, but totally unknown in America. During the summer of 1967, this song became an overnight sensation...everyone loved it! 54 years later, the love for "Whiter Shade of Pale" only continues to grow. A hauntingly beautiful melody combined with lyrics that welcome interpretation...a formula few composers achieve. The original recording/video is available here on RUclips...at nearly 3 million views, the popularity of this song continues unabated. Watch and enjoy!
I remember it well. It was in the charts for ages. It was everywhere. The organist at our school even played it. And this was 1967 when Sargent Pepper, Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Jimi Hendrix 'Are you experienced' and many many other top recordings came out. So the competition was pretty intense.
This song has me in tears man. Remember when this classic came out in 1967. Listening to his beautiful voice, brings back so many happy, happy memories growing up. You are so, correct his voice is like aged wine, only gets better with age. Rock on brother!!!
I'm 52, OMG where did the time go? Anyway I'm sitting here playin my Les Paul thru an ENGL, EVH, and a MARSHALL all at once ,playing some metal but I love watching people react to great music they've never heard because it's like I'm hearing it for the first time all over again. She had tears streaming down my cheeks from her reaction and I never cry. Except for music reactions and this was the best.
He went to play Bach's "Air on a G String" one day and it came out completely wrong but sounded good, so he worked on it.. The two tunes are completely different but have the same feel about them.
This came out back in 1967 and I would be 11 or 12, but vaguely remember this as background music playing on radios and jukeboxes! Then, one rainy day in 1986 I came across a tatty Procol Harum single, an original from 1967...A Whiter Shade Of Pale, for an amazing 50p, which then compelled me to search for an LP...fortunately I bought another tatty original ,their debut album...followed closely by their third, A Salty Dog and the rest, they say, is history!
He was a young man when he first released this song, but he can still perform it very well. Wish I could perform as well now as when I was young. Alas, the clock on the wall never stops.
He is probably over 70, but his voice, like old wine, has become even better. The original 60ies version is great too, though. It's an iconic song. But this version would make Bach proud. I knew you would love it. And it's a treat to watch you react!
@@seamuskennedy9052 But still. Many singers by that age have already lost their voices. That's why I prefer original performances when they are young. But I thoroughly enjoyed this performance. A bit over the top, but that was the whole point, and it's beautiful.
The best version of this song I have ever heard. The orchestra and backup singers really expanded the song and Gary nailed it . He can still hit the high notes after all these years. I was 16 when the song came out and loved it then. Still on of my all-time favorites.
This song... This song is everything that defines the "human experience". It brings misty tears to my eyes as my soul aches, yet the corners of my mouth always form into such a smile... The music and Gary's voice haunt me and brings out so many past aches weighing on my soul, but as they escape their chains I am lifted, as if on the wings of angels... So many completely differing feelings, yet I always feel renewed after hearing this song...
I absolutely adore your reaction to this song, when I saw you react when he started to sing it brought tears to my eyes, your reaction was timeless, thank you for appreciating such great music, God bless take care
The song was released in 1967. This concert is from a series of shows held on big Danish Castles. This is from Ledreborg Castle. Thise concerts are very popular in this country.
Thank you for this lovely reaction. If you like Procol Harum, other excellent songs by them are Conquistador, A Salty Dog, and Shine On Brightly. Thanks again.
How honored they would be to see you so moved by their music ....music speaks to us all -and moves us -despite whatever color we are -whatever land we come from. I love your expressions ,sweet girl.
The production of this song at this venue is about as good as it gets..If this song and it’s lyrics doesn’t touch anyone they are emotional blocks of wood..Bless ya joy!🙏
This version of this song is indeed a masterpiece. You are one of my favorite reactors to the music of my generation. Thank you so much for being open minded enough to experience different types of music that you did not grow up with. I love your very honest and expressive reactions to music and, in a way, I envy you. You get the joy [ no pun intended] of experiencing these songs for the very first time. I can remember what that was like for me as a teenager when this song first came out......... By the way, you may want to react to another song from the same concert called '' Conquistador''. You won't be disappointed.............
This song, sung by this man, Gary Brooker, has been bringing millions of people to tears since it first came out in 1967. I loved watching you hear it for the first time. Your reaction was wonderful and real.
Some songs capture the "soul of rock" feeling and this is one of those. Adding the orchestra, many years after the original cut, couples brilliantly with the song and makes it contemporary and classic at the same time. A wonderful song and an extraordinary composition.
Gary Brooker wrote and recorded this 54 years ago. He sounds just as good in 2006 as he did in 1967...I just watched another live video of him in 2019.....hasnt changed a bit...I was 18 in 1967 and this song was on the charts as one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
I was 21 years old when this came out in 1967 and Gary Brookers voice is as soulful today as it was back then. My favourite album which I still love to play is Grand Hotel.
Just pure talent...no computers, no auto tune.....just pure skill.
Best version of this song. Gary's voice just got better like a fine wine!
I agree his voice only got better, but it sure did sound wonderful back in the late '60s!!💛🌹
For the record, every time I watch this performance, my eyes start sweating. This is the best that this masterpiece will ever be played.
Step 1 - Orchestra prelude
Step 2 - Gary Brooker and orchestra
Step 3 - Gary Brooker + orchestra + band (Procol Harum) + choir
❤ RIP Gary Brooker 1945 - 2022
It has been bringing tears to my eyes since the late sixties. So beautiful.
Think this is only time that I rate the original version of this song a 10/10 but actually prefer this version. Truly an amazing song 11/10
I still prefer the 1967 original, iconic version, and as amazing as this arrangement is, it just cannot top it.
Rest In Peace, Gary.
Everyone is emotional because this type of music is played when u get to HEAVEN at the Golden gates🙏🙏🙏🙏🎺🎻🎹🎹🎹🎶🎵👼👼👼👼
Gary Brooker,will never be forgotten
A beautiful young lady having a great reaction to a beautiful classic. ❤
I hope Gary is looking down on us and seeing how much his music still means and how it moves people.
Gary Brooker...one of the greatest voices ...ever.
Still love hearing this 50 years after the first time.
Tears in the eyes for the final chorus. Yep - same here!
That song reminds me so much of my youth. The first dance with a classmate at a party. The hug, the smell of her perfume, her face right in front of my face, looking in her eyes. And the first shy kiss ... oh my God. Time runs so fast.

No need for words....your face says it all.
This is the most beautiful song recorded of all time! hauntingly beautiful, emotive and soul searching. They do not make music like this any more!
Authentic Reaction. Nailed It. That's Exactly what your audience Feels and is looking for...
The tears are beautiful, the organ (a Hammond B3) is haunting, and this is one of the best songs ever written. It is timeless, as evidenced by young people being SO moved by it.
I was 17 when he first sang this and this is even better I'm now 71.
17 - 71...Wow ❤
Your reaction is priceless thankyou beautiful lady
Gary, RIP, Neil
What a great choice! Thanks!
I feel blessed to have grown up in this era of music. Back when the lyrics told a story, and the artists were so talented. Love your reactions.
I wish I was born earlier. I don't like my era at all.
yall just gotta look harder to find the good music now. its still around
The old gent just knocked it out of the park
This song was based on The Canterbury Tales , The Miller's Tale..A collection of 24 Stories, They were written in Middle English in 1387 - 1400 Stories of pilgrimage
Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful, The song is Beautiful, To.
One of the songs that defined the 60s, but like all good music, it is also timeless.
That is how special a Hammond organ sounds!
This was the song I danced to with my Mother at my wedding. Right there with you chopping onions Hon.
Oh go ahead and cry. It’s one of the most beautiful performances ever.
Oh Wow! young lady! What a reaction! Now that's what music is supposed to do to you! Brilliant!
This song should be used in therapy for people who have been so traumatized by God knows what that they can't even cry. This song seems to touch everyone deeply.
"A Salty Dog" from the same concert. AMAZING!
procol harum conquistador fron the same concert is great. cheers from England and keep safe young lady.
I get so emotional about this song and do it on karaoke ....God bless you Gary with all my heart
They sung this in 1967, I saw them live at a show in London.

R.I.P. Gary Brooker .
I love that you loved that 🙏❤

Love your reactions!! I was 13 when this song came out and I listened to it on a small transistor radio. Gary Brooker never sounded better than this.
This is one of my favorite songs.

Same. Although this performance did make me well, up, when she started crying i broke down.
Gary didn't just sing it, he wrote the music too. :-)
He went to play Bach's "Air on a G String" one day and it came out completely wrong but sounded good, so he worked on it..
The two tunes are completely different but have the same feel about them.
I totally don't know what the song is about but it is so beautiful and soulful...and addictive.
This is what you get when you assemble a group of very talented people !
an absolute masterpiece 🙏
Best reaction EVER to this song . Why? Because of your natural gratitude for beauty .
There's just no words to describe how great this is we just don't have any bands or singers with talent like this anymore
Well, we do, but the group is getting thinner, and older.
Joy Jean this song came out in the 60s I've always loved it I saddened me in FEBUARY that this great singer lol assed away
I am really glad you like the music of my time. Back then they knew how to really sing
ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS EVER MADE AND I AM 68 I REMEMBER THIS
The only thing more beautiful than this music was your reaction to it. That was awesome.
Thanks dear Empress Joy Jean. I've watched this beautiful performance many times. Your emotion and tears brought a tear to my eyes too. Thanks again♥
A very huge hit in 1967......... 54 years ago........!!
The performance will never die and that man will forever be remembered for it! This music is beyond words and touches the soul in a profound way.
Conquistador from this same concert is another great song and performance from procol harum. ty for the great choice!

I Slow danced with a lot of girls to this song. Well may be a couple HaHa. That was in the 70s. The song is timeless.

Surely you skipped a light fandango?
Empress - I knew you would like this one. This record sold 60 million copies way back in the 1960's.
No not 60 million its sold 10 million
Exactly right. A classic piece of art.
ART

1967 and it still touches a new soul.
That Hammond organ solo is iconic

He wrote it in 1967 and still sounds majestic.your wonderful.
I use to dance to this song while remembering my twin Brother while I was in the Army. He has passed. I cried with you.
I'm sorry about your twin brother 💔

Great reaction - you have a heart. I loved this song from day 1. This version with orchestra & choir makes it my favourite song of my lifetime.
the first band to record stereo music on stage and perform it at the time
Like you, I cry everytime...
Thank you for this lovely reaction. If you like Procol Harum, other excellent songs by them are Conquistador, A Salty Dog, and Shine On Brightly. Thanks again.
You are beautiful..not just cuz you obviously are..lol. But because you listen to music for the appreciation it deserves. 😁
You nailed it "this kind of thing doesn't happen all the time"; best rendition of this masterpiece imo.
Back when this song first came out here in the US it was the most requested song on radio according to many DJs.
The great Gary Brooker singing! LOVE YA ♥️😍♥️
What a great voice and I believe he was 61 here, how many other singers can say that
I've listened to this song off and on since the 70's, but now you're making me cry. 💖⚘💕
yeah those sixties were true pure, authentic, full of heart and also full of nuclear fear... Nothing comparable to this days...
