    My only complaint with this game (and Doomlings) is that it's made so many other card games boring because of the variety in the cards. Sure, there are only so many card types, but the fact that every hero/magic/item card has a different effect makes it so almost every card in the deck is unique. Unlike a game like Exploding Kittens which has like 7 or 8 card types and multiple copies of each that do the exact same thing.

      I couldn’t agree with you more! Here To Slay went above and beyond what most card games are doing right now. I need to get around to actually playing Doomlings. I’ve got it on my shelf, but I haven’t committed to a game of it yet. Which one do you prefer: Here To Slay or Doomlings?

    • @CarbonatedTurtle

      @@gameswithdenverjames As much as I love this game, I think Doomlings is even better. The variety in cards is even more extreme, and there are more opportunities to plan 2 or 3 turns ahead if you get the right combination of cards, as well as holding onto cards for much longer and waiting for just the right moment to play them.
      Pull it off that shelf and play it the first chance you get! You won't be disappointed.

      Yeah but also too many cards means, sometimes you have terrible cards, and other player just solos the game (happened to me many times). We had no challenges/modifiers, and 1st player get out 2 heroes, and killed 3 monsters in 3 rounds, and it was GG. I would preffer smaller like in Exploding kittens.

    02:16 I don't have the rule book on me at the moment, but I think that there is a limited to how many hero cards you can have on the field at once. Because the official play mat for the game has spaces only for 5 heroes not including your party leader. Which I think makes sense. Having this limit to your party size forces you to really consider which heroes to play if you want to go for the full party victory. Making good use of the class altering items, monsters that sacrifice heroes on failed attempts, and abilities that swap heroes around.
    If I could offer my own critique, slaying a monster seems too easy to attempt and succeed. Especially for a mechanic that wins you the game for slaying any 3. Potentially, a player could win the game very early if they challenge a monster at every opportunity and just so happen to be lucky with their rolls. It may be more balanced if the monsters had higher requirements to challenge it or their reward for slaying was less powerful. Like adding a permanent class type to your party instead of counting towards immediate victory. But keep the 3 monster limit and the special abilities so you would have to really consider which one you attempt to slay. But that's just my opinion.

    • @gameswithdenverjames
      @gameswithdenverjames  22 дня назад +1

      Hey there and thanks for commenting! I totally get what you’re saying. With 3 or more players, it definitely turns into a race to see who can slay 3 monsters first, which is a bit hit or miss depending on what kind of game you like playing.
      Regarding the Heroes, there’s no limit to the amount of Hero cards that you can play. It’s for this reason that the playmats aren’t a great option, since you can easily play more than 5 Heroes. Take care and thanks for reaching out!

    • @didjargo
      @didjargo 20 дней назад

      @gameswithdenverjames i just read through the rule book, and I stand corrected. There is a part that explicitly states there is no limit to the number of heroes that can be played.

    I might be doing something wrong here, but it seems to me that winning the game by slaying three monsters is a lot easier than winning it by having a full party. I don't get how would anyone try and go that way. I also read online to my surprise that a lot of people were "complaining" that they were always winning by completing the party and never the other way around... What am I missing? Are me and my friends just too lucky with the dices? 😅

    • @gameswithdenverjames
      @gameswithdenverjames  5 месяцев назад +3

      Haha! First off, I can definitely relate to what you’re saying. My friends and I almost always win by slaying monsters, because we’re always destroying each other’s heroes. That said, I can see how it depends on the group you’re playing with. The strategy of the game changes quite a bit depending on how you try to win. If everyone at the table is big on sabotage (like my group), then slaying monsters is much easier compared to gaining classes (which always turns into a blood bath). Take care and hopefully this helps!

    • @Jedezter
      @Jedezter Месяц назад

      In 1vs1 it is much easier to win by completing the team, in multiplayer it is generally easier to kill 3 monsters because no one can stop you from doing it, in the same turn you can place 2 heroes and attack the weakest monster, with a buff you will beat it while the other players are worried about fighting and killing the opponents' heroes.

    • @Ked7
      @Ked7 24 дня назад

      Me and my friends do that a lot. I have luck with dice rolls, she has luck with draws. So it is a battle to see who gets their win con first.

    • @didjargo
      @didjargo 23 дня назад

      I too found the win conditions to be rather anticlimactic. Especially since challenging a monster has a very low requirement, slaying it is pure luck, and failure is very lenient. Maybe it would be better if they had a mechanic where you chose two of your heroes to challenge it (a required class and one other), each contributing a modifier value to the roll (with the win condition being higher than 12), and failure is a guaranteed loss of one or both of those heroes.

      I totally respect that! While I’m a huge fan of the game, I’ll also admit that it has a very specific gameplay style that isn’t for everyone. I’ve seen a similar reaction from people with Exploding Kittens (of which I’m also a huge fan). A lot of these games tend to attract a more niche audience.

    What I don't like about this game is that it has too many cards that are practically useless, there are many heroes whose ability is very bad and it's not worth using them, most of the items are not very useful, for example it will always be better to use a hero instead of using a mask, the counters are not very useful because they depend on a dice roll. And finally, most of the magic is not good.
    Another bad thing about the game is the unbalanced champions, the bard will be useful in too many dice rolls during the game while the hunter will be useful only 3 times during the whole game. The wizard and the warrior may not be used in many games, and it's even worse with the expansions, the berserk will make you draw a maximum of 4 cards during the whole game.
    Another problem is that when playing 1vs1 it is too easy to get all 6 classes together without the opponent being able to do anything about it, in my group of friends we solved this by adding a rule, if you get all 6 classes together you must wait for your next turn to win.
