This is the song that changed the direction of the band. Ty Tabor wrote it and the band loved it and started writing different kinds of songs. I love the innovative form--a couple of verses, no chorus, long, evocative musical outro without a standard guitar solo but emotive arpeggios and heavy metal riffs. The vocal arrangement feels dark and mystical, like the harmonies on the Out Of The Silent Planet song, instead of chirpy beatlesesque. There's nothing else like it in their catalogue or anyone else's. The songwriting says everything with so little, just a couple of images, one for each verse, and then: the musical surge that happens briefly with the lyrics: "They burned his body, but not his soul..." says it all.
For years I wondered who this song was about, now that I know... I'm writing a science fiction (time travel) screenplay about him. The song itself doesn't tell you who the song is about, but it gives enough clues for you to figure it out.
I figured it was Giordano Bruno, but I don't think he was burned alive by the Vatican for saying the Earth was round--he said stars might be other suns, and have worlds around them with people. Such a beautiful, wasted mind his was, by ignorant people.
A while back, the Riverfront Times in St. Louis Mo. did a musician's poll asking who was the "upcoming" band that wasn't getting the recognition they deserved. These guys WON THAT MUSICIAN'S POLL!! I AGREE!! They are one of my all time favorite trios. All three virtuosos. THANKS!!
Giordano Bruno--the first man to suggest that stars might be other suns, and with planets around them. For this he was burned alive. I remember buying this album and it had an "explicit lyrics" sticker on it. King's X was one step away from being a straight Christian prog funk/rock band. No curse words. The Moral majority probably hated that King's X ridiculed televangelists and the Inquisition in the songs on the album.
They even used a short clip from the documentary "Marjoe" in their song "Mission". It took me years to figure out what that was from then I finally found a full version of the documentary. It also took me years to figure out who they were talking about in this song - now I'm writing a science fiction (time travel) story about him which is inspired by this song.
That's when they went to Germany. That was the era that inspired the songs "lost in Germany" and "Black Flag" - both songs were about their experiences while touring with AC/DC.
If you really like epic masterpieces of rock (like this one) I also recommend checking out the song "Faith Hope Love" (from the album of the same title); "In the New Age" from the album "Out of the Silent Planet" and the song "Out of the Silent Planet" from the album "Gretchen Goes to Nebraska". It amazes me that a three piece band can have such a HUGE sound but I think that's because of a variety of factors like dUgs 12 string bass, the fact that all three of them sing and also because a lot of their stuff is tuned way down to C (or "Drop C Tuning" as Ty calls it). Faith Hope Love: ruclips.net/video/a17mR_W3ZTE/видео.html In the New Age: Remastered (directly from dUg's own channel): ruclips.net/video/lOM1AbAdLvU/видео.html Out of the Silent Planet... LIVE! ruclips.net/video/Z1LXLIcx354/видео.html BTW if you ever get the chance - do see them live!
Saw these guys in a small club in my hometown...the 12 string bass was booming!!! 4 years later saw the whole band on 6th Street in Austin, Texas...in the crowd...watching The Galactic Cowboys.. I actually got to tell all three members what a great show they had played! Full circle event!
I edit video too, and I know it can be a long process, I can tell it was a labor of love thanks for making it, I think you captured the essence of the song, great job.
Nicely Done! I'm glad I stumbled on your work. Here's how I found your video: I was listening to this song while driving by a car fire... just as the last two vocal lines of the song were playing. And I was recording as I drove by. Freakin' hilarious. I decided to try to find out more about the song and here we are!
yeah, well, if you go back in the archives of interviews this is the song they cite as the creation of KX.. and like everything else they were way ahead of the time, the whole ancient astronauts theory references the Pleiades quite often... we need to get those dudes into KX, they are of the right age from what I can tell..
Beautiful, fantastic the music needs a strong Video.... This near what the inside of my subconscious was like...., Ty..., your guitar is like a liquid monster... I'm so stoned I can't fight it ... I don't wanna fight it.,. Egyptian metal???!
imagine playing with Phil Keaggy for years, one hell of a teacher if you ask me Egyptian metal, nice term... Reminds me of Devin Townsend who is heavily influenced by KX
His story should have been a wake up call for everyone on earth over 400 years ago. But of course they silenced him and swept his ashes into a river. That and what they did to Galileo sixty years later - it boggles my mind that people still give their money to organizations that lie to them and would torture you to death on a Judas Cradle if not for the fact that we now have laws which prevent religions from murdering anyone who disagrees with them. But people are starting to wake up. I've read a few articles that say Christianity will be extinct by the year 2067. Personally I think it will take a lot longer than that for them to collectively run out of money. American Christianity alone makes enough money to end death by starvation; globally; in one single day.
God, this song is so worthy .. King's X are phenomenal ..

the demo version had a solo but it didn't fit the song at all... glad the final version was done this way

@@rikk319 He wasn't the first but he did support the theories of Copernicus.

I saw Kings X support ACDC back in 1990ish. I knew instantly that I had to buy their albums and I've never looked back. Amazing band.

Sounds like a band I should look into more.
