This course is suitable for those who already have an understanding of the piano accordion. Mirella teaches a lively selection of Jigs, Reels, Hornpipes, Marches and SlipJigs throughout the thirteen lessons. She introduces basic ornamentation on the instrument - cuts, triplets, the use of double stops and also shows the left-hand chord technique for each of the tunes. All the bass notes and chords are marked out in the accompanying written music. This is an excellent learning resource for the student wishing to incorporate more left-hand accompaniment into his / her playing. Mirella's teaching methods are firmly rooted in the traditional ways of teaching Irish music; she breaks up the tunes into short phrases that she then plays repeatedly, prompting the student to play with her. By the end of the course, you can expect to have a broader repertoire of tunes with tasty left-hand accompaniment, a better understanding of Irish style piano accordion playing, some ornamentation and a deeper knowledge of the Irish music tradition. www.oaim.ie/piano-accordion/i...

Thanks so much for this lesson. Loved the tune you chose. Only thing I would have found really helpful would be for to remain silent after each new phrase to give time to absorb the phrase and play it on my own. Thanks again Love your playing.

      Hi Pat,
Glad you like the lesson! Mirella is playing a Saltarelle 'Clifden'. I know that Mirella only recommends Salterelle Accordions. Google 'which piano accordion for beginners' and you'll get some sound advice.

For anyone interested there is a new range of piano accordions about to hit the market....known as the Celt...they are being made in four choices of wood....Walnut, Mahogany, Cherry and Japanese maple.....32 key 84 bass 3 voice with bombata hand made reeds......straight, swing, Irish and Scottish tuning....acoustic panels and vents within the wood....don't think the present range of accordions available will come close

What about the ornaments? How about explaining them too? To me they're the life and soul of the sound, and the hardest part to get right.

What is the name of the giotár player of Cherrish The Ladies again?
Probably the only ban giotáraí in Irish trad from Ireland?
Why are they some few(almost ZERO) Irish girls on the giotár?
Is there a taboo about that instrument?
