- One of the hardest and most unnatural skills to learn when you start backcountry skiing or splitboarding. We are bringing you some tips to help you learn faster and have more fun exploring the backcountry.
Step 1: go to the highest point in the turn to avoid "rounding" out the turn. It will give you the best angle of approach for good traction.
Step 2: Setup your outside ski as steep uphill as you can before starting the turn
Step 3: Kick your heel back and then pivot your ski at your hip. Don't lift your feet in front of you.
Step 4: Stepping your weight across to the new ski. If you have flat tails dive that tail under your original outside ski to make the move easier.
Step 5: Repeat step 3, Kick your heel back to lift the ski up, and pivot at the hip. This movement pattern will really help you move forward.
Let us know if this helped or if you are looking for any more advice for improving your movements out in the backcountry.

Great tips. Thanks man
Thank you! Hopefully you can use them here soon!
Gosh darn gymnast... 😂. Also, Brian w/ that drone shot... 👌.
We're certainly not gymnasts over here, that's for sure! Just trying to take our production level up.
dope. thanks
Of course! Happy to help
Wait so you wouldn't just stand on the rock to make it easier?
That would require balance and being a gymnast. Plus that would require getting free skins on a yearly basis. Have got to make those bad boys last!
@@TheLostBoys1 It seems like you're a world famous skier, so I don't see the problem 😏
@@AndrewWoodsDoesGoogle Kyle may be but I (Brian) surely am not.

I know this is how I'm supposed to do it, but somehow, every tour, I fuck up and turn at least one kick turn into a rat's nest. Going to try to be more mindful next time.
Yeah it's super easy to mess up on, but once you get it figured out it just becomes natural. It also helps to just take your time. Everyone thinks its a freaking race up the skin track these days
