The "clipping" thing is not about DC power at all but merely that it tends to concentrate a greater percentage of the power to the tweeter, especially with music with high treble content like heavy rock and hardstyle. You are better off using a larger amplifier cleanly to get more volume than use a smaller amplifier pushed beyond clean as you will actually get less power to your tweeters and it will sound better. Most amps have clip limiters these days so cannot be pushed to sound like a distorted maxed out car stereo. Overdriving speaker elements can occur with an excessively powerful amplifier still in its clean range of even with a normal amplifier if the crossover doesn't filter out very low frequencies below the tuning frequency of the box that is used.
