I've been getting a lot of similar questions so I have created a Q/A. Just keep scrolling down and you may find some answers about watercolor PAPERS, pigments, taping down etc 😃👇🏼
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
All annotations on colors and brushes are in the video.
The white pigment I use is DESIGNER'S PERMANENT WHITE GOUACHE, which is an opaque version of watercolor. I use it instead of my regular watercolor whites which are too transparent for my style of painting.
Paper: Hot Press, 140lb, 100% cotton - watercolor paper

Most common questions I get and here are some answers:
▶︎What's the difference between cold pressed and hot pressed?
Cold pressed is on the rougher side and hot pressed is the smoothest. For example with hot pressed the paint won't sink in as much and will dry faster, vs cold pressed is the most traditional watercolor paper for artists, the paint will sit for a while until it settles and you can do dry brushing. It also dries longer because of all that. They are both fun, I just have been painting mostly on hot pressed because of my style. Hot pressed is good when you can paint faster and when you use a lot of paint. To determine which paper is best for you I think it's a good idea to try out all three kinds, hot pressed, cold pressed and the third kind - rough watercolor paper, this one is super bumpy!
▶︎How do I make my paintings look so vibrant?
I believe that the intensity of my paintings comes from layering and composing the right colors together, creating contrasts like putting two colors together that will compliment each other.
▶︎How long does it take me to finish a painting?
Anytime between 40min - 3hrs. It all depends on what I am painting.
▶︎Do I use watercolor in pan or out of tube?
I mostly use watercolors out of tubes.
I think it helps me in painting with layers. I feel like it's so much easier to create that vibrancy when I can use more paint.
▶︎What are the basic colors I would recommend for a beginner?
black, indigo, thalo blue (phthalo), cobalt blue, viridian hue, turquoise, burnt umber, raw umber, burnt sienna, orange cadmium Hue, cadmium yellow Hue, cadmium yellow Hue pale, yellow ochre, sap green, Permanent yellow green, purple lake, mauve, red madder Hue, deep red, brilliant red, quinacridone red (Thalo crimson),
white - designers gouache permanent white
▶︎What basic brushes I would recommend for a beginner?
Round: 0, 2, 4, 6, Angular: 1/2, 3/4,
Fan: 2
▶︎What is art masking fluid?
It's a fluid (also known as liquid frisket ) that preserves white areas, white areas of the paper where you want to stay white. It's made of some sort of latex. Once you place it on your watercolor paper, on the area you want to stay white, wait until it completely dries before starting to paint. At the end, once your paper is dry, you can peel it off easily with your fingers or using an eraser.

Thank you for sharing how you create such gorgeous paintings!!! Very inspirational, I could watch all day long!!! Wow!
awww thank you!!! my pleasure!! thank you so much for your comment :)
Another great silhouette painting. Caput mortuum violet. Really? Your killing me. he-he-he. I'm in awe how you draw the deer then an upside down deer. Amazing. Thank you Maria. Enjoyed it.
haha Caput Mortuum Violet is like the strangest name i have ever seen on a watercolor tube! it cracks me up every time I have to write it down lol Thank you so much Bob :) Drawing a deer upside down may be difficult but you can always flip the paper upside down and use a photo for reference, both sides :)
Such startling beauty ! Your artwork is amazing. Watching you paint is pure pleasure, so good for the soul. A million thanks too you. 🎨🎨
thank you!!!😋😍
Love you Maria for your beautiful work

Hi Shubhangi :) Thank you so much!!
As olways ur paintings take me to the other world .. loved it !!!! 🤗🤗🤗
aww thank you so much☺️🌸😀
Absolutely stunning, there's no other words adequate enough in my vocabulary. I need to try out this Fabriano watercolor paper, it seems to be perfect for wet on wet techniques.
Thank you so much Belli :) This is not Fabriano, this is Arches Hot Pressed Watercolor Paper which I highly recommend for landscapes:) I actually don’t like Fabriano Hot Pressed, it wraps, doesn’t like too much water and it feels like the water just sits on top so I really don’t recommend it...
Maria your painting is stunning, thanks for sharing.😘
💕Hi Julie! thank you so much😃
Brilliant Maria! So simple and so effective. I love how you create reflection in the water. It always looks very realistic 😍

so pretty & thank you so much for sharing. I'd like to know in this painting you add layer when it totally dry or half wet?
Hi, thank you so much :) for the most part when it's half wet :) right before it's completely dry.
Another beauty, Maria....its absolutely gorgeous! :)
Thank you Nicole :)) You are very sweet!
Beautiful art work! I'm wondering if you're using any reference photo for your paintings and can you share it if you're using?
Hi Oznur, I didn't use any reference photo (except when I needed a silhouette of a deer, then I looked it up on internet) this painting is straight out of my head :) Thank you!

You're welcome Maria Raczynska🎨❤😉
Вы потрясающе рисуете!!!!😍😍👍
Большое вам спасибо за ваши добрые слова :)❤️
Hi beautiful artist! Question: is the white you're using "regular" white or gauche?
Hi Tamara :) I never use regular/transparent watercolor white, whenever you see me painting with white color it's always opaque watercolor white (gouache)
THANK YOU!! I have to say, you're amazing! With over 8,000 subscribers you STILL personally answer our questions! I pray only continued success and overflowing abundance for you! ❤️😘💕💐
Thank you so much 😀🌸😘😘😘😘I really appreciate all your support 🤗🍓trying my best haha but I feel like at some point it may not be physically possible to answer all the comments unless I stop sleeping at night 🤣😁
absolutely stunning! while watching you sketch in your deer i remembered i have been wanting to ask you if you have used watercolor pencils with your work and if so what you think of them. i have watched videos where they use them to sketch and say when they paint over them the lines blend into the painting. thanks for sharing your wonderful talent! :)
Hi 🤗Thank you so much!!😀🌺🌸🌹💕and Yes I have used watercolor pencils, but never thought of using them to sketch an object or like here in this painting a deer :) great idea! I will try it out next time :)
hi hi, hope you're having an awesome day! oh cool about the wc pencils, looking forward to see what you think of doing the sketching on paintings with them. i sketched in pencil when i was oil painting but then the paint covers anything so no prob but when it comes to wc paints well if you don't paint very dark over it it's just gonna show so i love the idea of the wc pencils.
Thank you! Excited it's Friday 😃😋Will test it out soon :)! I always use a regular pencil because my sketches are super light and never had any issues with it, personal preference 😋but sounds like a very good idea for beginners and if pencil sketches are not easy to do in a first place. It helps the outlines to blend in or if you don't like them or want to change them up.
i am sorry if i came across as sounding like i thought you needed to use them to overcome a problem, i didn't and do not see you having any problems with your sketching at all. i just thought it was a neat idea to throw out there.
oh not at all :) it's a great idea and thank you for sharing with me :) I am happy to show this in my video because it could be very helpful to a lot of people, thank you! :)

Anna Marie Hanson yes
can you tell me why your paper didn't curl when it was so wet?
Hi, I lay my watercolor paper flat on a glass cutting board, so when it's wet, the paper gets stuck to the glass :)
Maria Raczynska ah! thanks 😊
