This is actually a 12th - 13th century Swiss design that the Germans adopted. It was a popular, practical handle design that kept the user’s hand from sliding onto the blade or slipping rearward and dropping the knife.
I strongly suggest that you read the book by Thomas Wittmann " Exploring the Dress Daggers and Swords of the German SS ", the one and only reference book the subject.
That's me alright mate. Bought this dagger at the SOS about 10 years ago, the vet was waiting in line at the show and never made it to Wittman's table, haaaa.
Iron, nickel, and cobalt are the three magnetic metals, along with some certain ceramics, when the percentage gets low enough in combination with the right metals, as in nickel-silver, the material won't exhibit magnetic properties. Again, this is a combination of different alloy, also known as old German silver. Do a search on the web and you will see that nickel silver as no magnetic properties.
There are couple of dealers that you can get it from, Tom Wittmann and Tom Johnson are two of the best known and both have written reference books on the subject, a must for any serious collector.
In case someone might wonder the writing on the backside. It reads „in herzlicher Kameradschaft“ signed H. Himmler. It is written in Sütterlin the old German hand writing. And nice excerpt of Brahms Requiem by the way!
I know a fair bit about 3rd Erich edged weapons, and that looks real. I can't fault it. Additionally, that is one of the best prices I've ever laid eyes on. Congratulations mate! That would be the pride of and WW2 collection.
It’s an historical artefact from an important period of recent human history. In just one item , that particular dagger , one can explain the whole rise and fall of the third Reich and what it represented. It is important that such artefacts are respected but under no circumstances revered or worshipped !!
There are couple of dealers out there selling daggers from WWII, here are just a few of them. www.lakesidetrader.com, www.wwiidaggers.com, www.johnsonreferencebooks.com
Hello Charlie, Yes, this is 100% original but there are also many fakes on the market, one has to know what to look for when considering such artifact.
Yes you can, there are couple of militari antique dealers selling it, the better known are Tom Johnson from www.johnsonreferencebooks.com, Ton Wittmann from www.wwiidaggers.com, Paul Hogle from www.lakesidetrader.com and many others.
These used to be sold by Tom Johnson on his web site but it is no longer the case, sadly though as these were great for carrying and as well as protecting your artifacts.
It is indeed a ceremonial dagger but the Fallschirmjager was neither a combat knife, it was simply a functional tool, used by parachutists to cut off their parachutes when tangled in a tree or in similar situations.
I would strongly suggest that you get the book from Tom Wittman on SS daggers, the only reference book worth getting, a real " eye opener " should I say.
Wow that's the real deal, all correct double side etchings and Carl Eikhorn Solingen (squirrel) stamp. In that condition it must be worth a fair bit...into four figures I would assume. Nice video thanks for uploading. You're a jammy sod to own that as well mate.
My uncle had one similar. His CO made everyone throw their souvenirs into the Rhine because if they ever got caught with them (especially an officers) they would be shot on sight.

You have to remember that these were hardly used at all, they were mostly worn for ceremonial events in full gear uniforms.
Será, porque estaban bien construidas!
