Here are a few things from Thomas that scared me as a kid: 1) Henry's face in "Henry To The Rescue" (known as "Edward, Gordon, and Henry" in the UK, and mentioned in this video. 2) Duck's close-up shocked face in "A Close Shave For Duck." 3) Percy in a Season 2 promo image staring at the camera. This photo was in a book, and I always got jumpscared when I saw that image, and would turn two pages instead of one to get past it. 4) A similar shot in "Percy's Ghostly Trick", when he enters the shed. 5) S.C.Ruffey smiling at the camera in "Toad Stands By." These, for me, were truly horrifying, and yet, I was never scared of the spooky episodes. (aside from "Percy's Ghostly Trick", but for the wrong reason.)
For me, the scariest face that Thomas made in was in Ghost Train, when Percy disguised as a ghost, and Thomas made that scared/shocked face. I was traumatized by that for years 😂
The moment from Thomas the Tank engine and Friends which scared me as a kid was the close up of BoCo's face in The Diseasel after Bill and Ben were pranking him. The close up paired with the expression and spinning eyes - just pure nightmare fuel.
*Michael Angelis narrating voice* Thomas loves to be cheeky. Gordon loves to pull the express. James loves his shiny red paint. Henry loves stealing people’s wives.
I was scared of Diesel 10 when i was a little kid around 4. His claw thingy was too much for my 4 year old brain to handle. There was another episode where Percy was left outside in a cold winter night and ice was around his face so much it scared James and me back then. I was scared of the smelters yard back then too. But i still love the show no matter what. 🚂🚃🚃
I've never felt scared or discomforted by the model era faces, since I grew up during the nitrogen, and mostly Brenner Era, so looking back from CGI to the model era videos kind of felt...off, but never scary or anything. I can see why it might look scary, but I've always thought of the smiling faces as a positive thing. However, some of the CGI scenes still gives me chills/shivers even till this day when I rewatch it.
I’ll never forget I must have been 4 years old, watching ttte, the one where Thomas had a chance to pull a passenger train, when he realized he left without the train, scarred to this very day that face…..
I can remember the first time I saw Thomas and Trevor at a bath store of all places close to the town centre. That ending freaked me out. The death mask look Trevor has when sleeping, the slow camera movement towards Trevor and the ominous music. I had a nightmare about that scene with the scene fading to black and Trevor’s eyes beams.
Moments Model Era Thomas scared child me. 1. Bulls Eyes: I was worried that Champion would charge at Daisy in fast stop motion... 2. Bulgy: I was scared of Bulgy wincing in pain as Duck crosses the bridge he was stuck underneath. 3. Different shots of the trucks' faces depending on their moods in episodes like Pop goes the Diesel, Busy Going Backwards, Put Upon Percy, Haunted Henry, Snow and World's Strongest Engine. 4. James goes Buzz Buzz and James and the red balloon: James getting stung in the nose and I thought he was getting suffocated by the balloon. 5. Hector the Horrid: Michael Brandon shouting keep away in the US dub. I prefer that dub because it has more emotion and power than Michael Angelis' UK dub. 6. Rusty and the Boulder: Boulder's face appearing and fading away. 7. Henry and the elephant: Henry's shocked face as he slowly goes into his tunnel and just like with "Bulls Eyes" I thought the elephant was going to attack Henry. 8. The World's Strongest Engine: The shots of the trucks' as always, Diesel's 2 angry faces when he moves back and forth trying to pull and push the long train and him charging off the edge into the barge in Alec Baldwin's narration.
This brings back to when I was younger, about 2 or 3 years old, I used to be afraid of that one moment in one of the 1st seasons of the episodes "Thomas goes fishing" and when Sir Topham Hatt sees Thomas has fish on his tanks, I got off guard from the sound it made when it showed Thomas o face, I used to hide from a corner near one of the rooms, however when I watched it more and more times, I got used to it and didn't see the point of hiding from it. I'm so glad you made this for something some people had from their younger times, thank you for it, I'm grateful even, keep it up, you do really great content.
When The Tramp Steamer Crashed Into The Sheds I Always Closed My Eyes At That Part A Very Intense Moment For Me As A Kid Seeing That Runaway Ship Come Closer To The Screen Ever So Slowly No one ever talks about that horrifying moment
You know the truck that says "Oh look, Henry's spooked" from Haunted Henry? That thing scared me and a lot of people. Espically the shot in Toad Stands By where the camera zooms in on it, and espically the music video *WHERE IT JUMPS AT YOU.* 15:25 I fear no man but that thing it scares me
I almost never watched Duncan gets spooked, I always avoided it, also the troublesome trucks song scared me because of the line “POUNCE” as the trucks face warps at you, the face is one from haunted Henry, I was never afraid of haunted Henry though, mind you a trucks face almost falls off
In saved from scrap i was creeped out by trevors smiling face in the shot where he is moving when the guy arrives to purchase him and in the shot where it is said trevor is saved from scrap and trevor just looking into your soul, to this day its still abit uncomfortable fir me to see those shots
You’re not alone, I find most of them endearing though I can see exceptions with the cgi faces of season 12; especially Edward and skarloey. I never found them scary.
As a child, the episode "ghost train" actually scared the s**t out of me, and gave me nightmares, but the things listed in this video never creeped me out, I think it's just because I never really paid close attention to every individual scene from thomas, to notice those brief moments, and even if I did, I always perceived the trains as friendly, and I wouldn't have been creeped out by any faces, because 5 year old me always saw the engines as friendly, and would probably think "Aw, Thomas is looking at me, he wants to be my friend.", and as far as the endings of "Thomas and Gordon" and "Thomas and Trevor" go, I've never been unnerved by the music or anything. I'm not sure how common being unnerved by these things is, so I'm not sure weather I was just a brave child or is it not that common.
I believe I still do have a copy, however no means of playing it currently. Any compilations released before 1990 should have it 🙂 I think the particular instance I'm talking about it from the "Bumper Special" VHS.
Hey, Rosie Rebecca's stuff isn't in the description Also, I remember there was this scene, don't remember from what episode (I think it was world's strongest engine?) where diesel would lurch forwards to the camera and it would always scare me, my friends where also jumped when Thomas did that eyeroll thing in Thomas and Gordon
Added those links in now, thanks! :D Oh yeah that it's that face they use, wouldn't like him staring at me pulling that face 😂 Series 4 is notorious for engines having no movement then suddenly the eyes do a thing.
I've always been horrified by scenes with nameboards, especially if it's low quality. Now I'm not afraid of these scenes, but still, when I watch them, episode become uncomfortable for me.

@@mechanicalshed4556You think James has the best and most threatening angry face in the Model Era? My scariest moment is when James screeched in pain when he got stung by a bee
Gordon's angry face and the night shots at Tidmouth Sheds in the earlier seasons are the things that scared me the most.

Thomas’ tired face also creeped me out. Could be a reason why it was rarely used after season 1
