And that last synth note is just chilling
YES! Most times when songs have these endings (like Lost Children of the Universe), I can live without them - "song's over already".
But the foreboding tone on this one is just PERFECT! Really sets the tone of the contrast between the hopefulness of Ride the Comet and the plan to create and guide/save humanity, and the deliberate sacrifice of another race.

Now this is how you raise the bar at the start of part 2 of a double album, folks! I did not know of Jørn before 2008 and 01011001, but he went straight to the higher elite of metal vocalists of all time for me.

I can't help but feel like the repetition of the phrase "We're alive" is somehow supposed to be a middle finger to the universal migrator+colonist deciding that planet y didn't have life even though they saw that the forever was there.
It is, but the Universal Migrator saw that there was life, but they were not alive, since they had lost their emotions.

2021 vibes
After listening to The Source, I just cringe at the cry of "WE'RE ALIVE!" at 2:30. The Alphans/Forever have never learned from their mistakes and don't deserve this second (or third?) chance they get from their scheme to grow a human race for their future benefit. I feel bad for them, but at the same time can't ignore that their loss of emotions have made them self-centered and callous. There's a lot of pain bound up in their story, and it really hits hard after listening to "The Human Compulsion."

The Source album definitely added a new perspective to the storyline. To me, it reveiled the 'forever' as a race basically doomed to fail from the start... incapable of fully grasping what they were doing wrong, despite also being intelligent and advanced enough to claim entire planets for themselves.
