LYRICS
Majesty
Faithful me
Pour yourself
Into me
Wield your power
Martyr's price
Stare me down
To the ground
The eyes of the devil
Fixed on his sinners
Slake my thirst
Eternal wealth
Heathen key
'Round my neck
This poetry
Our blasphemy
Know the sounds
Of infamy
The hands of Satan
Assembling his flock
The pale horse rider
Searching the earth
Whispered conjuration
A belief takes form
Choking hand tapping
The veins in your throat
His orders in your mouth
A decree for domination
Beneath the tides of wisdom
Spins the undertow of hate
Injected seeds of vengeance
Usurper's eyes on the powerless
Clean path to his kingdom
Beaconing in the mist
The grand conjuration
Tell me why
Love subsides
In the light
Of your wish
Say my name
Ease the pain
Clear the smoke
In my head Видеоклипы
In this song:
Mikael conjures satan and then scares him away.
it totally depicts that!
Mikael is the complete package, technical death metal guitar skills, sings like an angel, growls like a demon, and the best metal songwriter of all time.
Chafing cake you forgot funny and humble
@@silverburst79 Like every Swede ever
I’ll try to correct you, OF ALL TIME.
Mikael growls like a demon and sings like an angel. No one else can do that.
Chris Alvestam says hello. Akerfeldt does it the best, but he's not entirely alone.
Chris is a fantastic vocalist, love him in Scar Symmetry (replaced by 2 vocalists got to mean something :)). Of course he's not alone, but like you said it: "Akerfeldt does it the best". Exactly what i meant. For me, its just amazing how his growls and cleans are in perfect harmony with Opeth's music ;) And like you said in an other comment, his growls are rich and mostly understandable... so true... hmmm those Bloodbath years
There's a few. But it is a rare talent.
The heavy vocals throughout Wreath show how good he is with heavy vocal clarity. The lyrics are very distinguishable. You won't find many who can pull that off quite as good. They've always put incredible work into their music though.
Loïc Rosetti from The Ocean man.
everyone praises the guitar compositions, but not enough credit is given to the drum orchestration.
+THEUNHINGEDSANITY The drums are my favorite part of this song
I'm a guitarist but even I get pissed at how drums are so often overlooked despite the fact that they're the Base for the whole song.
Not enough credit is given to Akerfeldt's take on death growls either. With how many death metal bands there have been since the late 80s, very few growls still come close to sounding as rich and mostly understandable like his do.
Neonmirrorblack I agree. Opeth is one of the only bands I can tolerate death growls from, simply because Akerfeldt makes them understandable and not just noise.
I air drum this a hell of a lot more than I air guitar this.
Opeth's Drummer is something else my friends.
Martin Lopez Now plays for a band Called Soen! Check them out! They are really good.
*Drummers
I've never seen Lopez play live, but I can certainly say Axe is by far the most clean and crisp drummer I've ever seen live
@@bsautospa2957 there are more can be found with huge technical abilities he is great too..

5:50 my favorite Opeth moment. That riff is just brutal and the growl ABSOLUTELY disgustingly aggressive. It's incredible. The perfect climactic moment of the song, which is also perfectly conveyed lyrically as he growls the title of the song in that moment.
It's hard to find bands that put so much focus on bass. Progressive metal is just perfect genre for bass players to shine.
Jazz also
Shushant tool and primus are also good examples
Don't know if its your thing but megadeth quite often have bass very high in the mix :)
Jamie Wilson except in the shitty rust in peace remaster
@@gub4941 that is very true mate ha
Honestly the best growl I've ever heard. It sounds so full and rich
i remember when this first came out and blasting this song and it would scare my parents shitless because they truly believed it was satanic music.
good times...
This only came out like a year ago...Why is everyone doing this "still listening in.,..___year" bullshit sentiment?

Same here. An epic masterpiece!
phatkid099 Imposible que no sea esta canción la que te lleve a Opeth. y por favor no vayan a responder "Tacos"...
what ? speak English
same here ryan this was the first song i listened by opeth
phatkid099 hahaha I said it´s impossible for this song take you to Opeth. And please don´t answer to me: "Tacos"...
This is opeth’s greatest one. I feel that in my guts and also get reassured when I see live versions of this song when mikael starts with ‘this is a song we expected more love for’. Even he didn’t expect this song to not perform well, for fuck sake he named it the grand conjuration and even screamed it exactly in the middle of the song time, his one of the best screams too, btw
Never thought I'd enjoy this kind of music (with growlings), but here I am finding it amazing. Guess they just know how and when to use it on the song
As long as it's at the proper time with the proper emotion in the back, growling fits like a puzzle piece. The growls in this song only add to the mood, otherwise that's all anyone would notice.
Goes to show that vocals are very much an instrument in and of itself, if used well it could most definitely sound good, I used to dislike harsh vocals but now I feel I would be missing something without it.
I've NEVER heard any other Metal band combine BEAUTY and BRUTALITY So well in their songs like OPETH DOES!!! They are MAGNIFICENT!!!
If you like Opeth you'd like Amorphis!

Those palm muted notes starting at 6:30 are literally the best guitar tone I have ever heard .
this album has one of the best distorted guitar tones of all time easily
When people ask me to describe Opeth’s sound, I usually tell them to think of a much darker, heavier version of Genesis. Just to give them a rough idea. But that description honestly doesn’t even begin to do them justice. They have such a unique sound. There’s truly no other hand out there quite like Opeth. Their music is heavy, intense, terrifying, romantic, heartbreaking, tranquil, so many words can be used to describe this beautiful art. I get that maybe their music won’t click with everyone but to me they are one of the greatest bands of all time.
no one has ever asked me to describe Opeth's sound.. but this is a good one to quote if that ever happens.. ;)
*THE greatest, not one of :)
I always thought that they are a metal version of Pink Floyd. But your description works too.
I love your description 🖤
@@6kine6tic67Opeth for me is the perfect marriage of Pink Floyd and Sepultura😂😊
I love the part at 5:25 when the music sorta implodes on itself then explodes into your face. It's really cool
They manage too pull that off live too. I have no idea how they manage to do all that together, but it's brilliant.
That is also my favorite part, the music almost stops and then explodes into Mikael's amazing scream :)
noobsmustdie453 Live they use a backtrack for the effect and they play to a metronome in the monitors in their ears.
Chase Keller That's probably true, actually. I'd always assumed they quickly turned down one guitar and then Frederik/Mikael faded it back in. It's still cool though!
Chase Keller most large bands that can afford to do that do. It's not like they're bad musicians or anything because of it, it just helps the live show
The contrast between his singing and growling
That's what I love about this song
Hi Schrodinger
hi schrödinger
Could Opeth be considered beauty& the beast style metal?
This song deserves much more views.
The music video is probably the most viewed Opeth video right now.
No one wants Opeth to have more views, or else we'll have all the "haters" coming
That groove after the solo is second to none
It sounds so evil and dark. So good.
1:58 Just hear the little detail of the organ playing a little reference to Tocatta and Fugue in d minor. I love this band.
From 7:46 onwards you can listen to these deep voiced whispers... It sounds as if a freaking demon was whispering a damnation to my ears. I always appreciate that part, because it feels like the evil presence that sings the song is trying to communicate with the listener, which makes the end something quite unique.
THEEEEEEEEE GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND CONNNNNNNNNJURRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATIONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!
RRRRrrrrMMMMmmmeeeeeEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!
Best Scream I have ever heard..
Change my mind
1:58 The eyes of the devil are fixed on his sinners... CLASSIC!
Opeth, Meshuggah, Tool... Dream tour. Got 2 of them already
Which two you got? I got none man 🕷️
Tool sucks
@@vonbraunprimarch if they sucked they wouldn't have half as many album sales
you forgot dream theater
Opeth - Meshuggah - Tool - Deftones - Porcupine Tree - Massive Attack - Nine Inch Nails - Gojira tour would be sick
This song feels shorter than it actually is. It's amazing how they can do that.
they do that everytime. With other bands it's like when will these 12 minutes end? and Opeth just shows how it's done right. They never tried to stretch a song for the sake of it, to make it proggy or something.
Although you can find some interesting song lengths like Deliverence with its 13:37 ;))) etc.
Listen to Black Rose Immortal
@@josiahlegacy that song is so well produced and with that outro.
Omg, I heard this for the first time today and I SAW it was an 11'ish minute song - but when it was over - I was like wtf?? That didn't feel like 11 minutes?
"Feels shorter than it is" - title of my sex tape
1:57 the way that distorted organ comes in with the rest is just so sweet!

At the time of this album, Opeth were untouchable!
+countsmyth This was the album that really sucked me in. I had heard them before but this was when this came out it could no longer be ignored. I think this album was the height of their progdeath era. Such a brilliant album.

Dat grammar
The Symbol work in this is actually brilliant
Cymbal* but Yes I agree! One of the best parts of this song
When he starts shouting "A DECREE FOR DOMINATIOOOOON" I get shivers
The growl after the drop, like i cannot explain what that does to me but it does everything.
Only Mikael can make an 11 minute song out of one riff, and it still be interesting the whole time!
You can't deny that a lot of this song is based on that riff.
well it's one hell of a riff
Truly.
@@JerryAntoine417 there's so many pieces/songs out there in several different genres of music, based off only one riff/melody. A lot of them are even longer - 20min sonata movements are an example.
Check out Edge of Sanity. 2 full length albums made from a basic riff evolving into different sections
3:42 to 5:25. Badass. Opeth are legendary.
Agreed 👍
God the guitar tones on this album are some of the best in the history of metal
Definately.
Nobody is talking about that awesome bass.
Martin Mendez is AMAZING
5:52 that part has the most extreme growls i`ve ever heard
one of the great metal tracks. maintaining funky drumming mixed with evil
When he says the "eyes of the devil" part is probably the most fucking metal sound and part of a song ever
6:30 that offbeat riff tho, daaaamn boy
The most evil song ever made by Opeth.
Eternal soul torture is their evilest song.
@@baphometwingsof666 idk...it's evil, yes, but it has an ordinary taste, like something that I heard already in dozens of black metal bands. The Grand Conjuration is unique, in my opinion; the evil in it is very beautiful. Perhaps that's why I considerer it to be so evil: it's easy so make an evil song with such chaos and umbridled melodies, but making evil beautiful is not something you see everyday.
Wreath is pretty damn evil if you ask me
The baying of the hounds all the way.
nah "Will o' the Wisp' is their most evil song
This is the most evil sounding song I've ever heard and I love it.
I remember sitting in my car listening to this song the first time it was played on Sirius radio. I got chills AND was late for work. Awsome.
Beneath the tides of wisdom spins the undertow of hate.
This song sounds like its the entire reason that metal used to be labelled satanic.
5:05 Man, that faint melody is probably the creepiest shit I've ever heard.
Reminds "I" from Meshuggah
4:17 This riff it's the one best Opeth's have ever written, just behind the riff after the guitar solo in Hessian Peel.
I'm back here in 2021. Criminally underrated song from the album, I feel. This and The Baying of the Hounds.
Ur right but personally I think isolation years is kinda underrated
04:00 - 04:15
I love that soft, low growl
+Норка Велкова That´s actually string scratching through some compression and processing. I guess they got that from previous recordings with Steven Wilson, but it sure sounds pretty cool
Really? It sounds so like Mikael
Yeah, I know it almost indistinguishable. I´ve seen them doing some similar kind of effects at some point in a "making of damnation album" video, if I´m not mistaken. I was looking to find that video again, but haven´t been able
for the past 30 years, my favorite band has been fates warning. never thought they would be dethroned.
06:25 - 07:15 is one of the greatest moments in metal history

Somehow an underrated Opeth track. Very simple for an Opeth song, and very unique for them. Amazing.
I love the ghost reveries album, there seems to be this middle eastern feel to most of the songs
This song especially uses a mode called Phrygian dominant, which is extremely prevalent in the Middle East.
Im from jordan and i agree 👍
also in some blackwater park songs
bleak and closure for example
If you enjoy this, try the album "Cosmogonia" by Into The Abyss.
@@fatuousmusic2822 The main riff feels like a mishmash of Phrygian Dominant and Hungarian Minor to me (with the raised 4th- the G#- in the second half of the riff).
7:09 is the part which shows the frenzied sense of control this song exhibits as a whole so clearly. These guys are my absolute favorite. \m/
Great song for karaoke!
Such an incredible song. The changes in the music from pleasant lull to heavy music and same with vocals. So damn good.
best album ever made in human history
With all due respect i disagree! Master of Puppets, Colors and Blackwater park are the best! ;)
KuBaYa By colors you mean Between the Buried and Me right?
Horatio Huffnagel Indeed! =)
I totally Agree, along with BW park, Still life, pale communion, and Symphony X's Odyssey.
maybe their best album. and sometimes I think they have made the most intricate and beautiful heavy music ever made (as opposed to just heavy). so I get it man. they are on another level from almost all bands.
ended the concert with the grand conjuration into deliverance
I could have died right there and been completed
The drums picking up at the end of the song.... one word..... INCREDIBLE!
Legend has it that the outro is still playing up until this day
wish Opeth still sounded like this!!
I don't.
Me too! remember my friend loaning me this cd. sooooo fkin heavy!

Nice argument, though. Ad hominem ftw.
They're doing this one live on sorceress tour ;)
meh, I preder the Pale Communion sound. I don't like death metal too much actually
First song I ever heard of them, loved it unconditionally
Guitar solo rocks! 3:25
I wasted way to much time listening to seventies music. All the time I could have listened to this awesome band. Mixing seventies prog with extreme metal. Again I am years behind. But it is great to find a band with a huge back catalogue and discover album by album. Black water park is my favorite. This one Second.
I thought Blackwater Park was a masterpiece (it is) but now I hear this... WTF man. Opeth is insane. I need more songs like this
Ghost of perdition, Deliverance, Master's Apprentices
dude there's too many lol - watershed / bwp / deliverance / gr / still life .. etc I mean all the albums not the songs
Blackwater Park doesn't get really good until over halfway through IMO. Not enough drums in the first half. Lol.
Bleak
Their best album is Morningrise.
So damn good, blows you away time and time again.
I was introduced to Opeth by a Swedish guy I played with in Wurm. That was 11 years ago. His name was Elias.
I've been hooked since.
This is my favorite from the album ♥️

Definitely video game-like. Maybe even could have a place in Far Cry. I get that "I'm out in the jungle" vibe with this song.
This was the very first Opeth song I listened to. When I first heard this song, my mind sunk.. I honestly had no words. Like the chorus sunk my mind. And now here I am listening to this masterpiece 3 mounts later.
Prog rock with death metal influences, love it. First I've listened to opeth I give years or so.
5:51 possibly the heaviest moment in Opeth's discography
Freaking Mikael sounds like a f**king beast.

Best drumming in an Opeth song imo.
Ghost of perdition is number one no doubt
Listen to their entire catalogue & then come & tell me you think this is the best song for drums.

They should do a break when they play this song live on 05:23

Start again by playing that riff on 05:26 and let ALL HELL BREAK LOOSE on the pit!
Brilliant. Just imagine the chaos
You are a genius
One Of the best recorded and produced songs in metal
Kind of similar to Blackwater Park. I bloody love this band!
both of those albums along with Pale Communion show all three of Opeth's sides. Raw power and composition in BW Park, haunting/eerie and immense musical composition + creativity in this album, and gorgeous keyboard work, smooth composition, and sleek guitar work in Pale Communion. But the upcoming album is starting to sound like a whole new side of Opeth, and I love it
This song is incredible. I'd say if there was a perfect song.... this is it but I sure I am not the first to think so.
Scary how good this is , both live and studio versions make just about every hair on my arms stand to attention 👊
This whole album is just spotless.
