I've always wanted to do a film documentary of all the tribes we have in the Philippines. We are all indigenous natives, the Spanish conquest decimated our way of life and connection to our tribal practices. As a Cebuano, it would be nice to revive old tradiitions and practices prior to colonization, and create an educational/preservation program around it.
Enjoyed your video of Yegas! By the way, there are other Tboli chanters as well as Yegas. Just last year the Philippine National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), awarded the ‘Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan,’ the National Living Treasures Award, bestowed annually to 9 traditional artists throughout the Philippines, 3 of them Tboli in 2023, including Boi Rosie Sula for chanting.
I wish I could tell you, but I was never given a translation. Her chants are often created in the moment, so each song is different and new to the moment. I have a contact I can connect you with. DM me 👉🏼 hoy@teszmillan.com
I don’t know the exact translation of what she is singing, but I know she is inspired by the events and feelings surrounding her in the moment. I am able to understand that she says “camera” and “American” at one point during her chant. It’s magical! 🌟
Very soothing to listen to....

Let’s go on this journey together. My episodes may help lead you there. 💞

I agree! 🙋🏻♀️ And would love to help with your documentary.
@@TESZMillan that would be awesome! Living in California now, it's gonna take a lifetime to compile the documentary and a budget
