Koyu No Te Bulul|山頂的一棵樹
Arr. Eudenice Palaruan|

The Department of Tourism should use folk songs like this lovely piece in PH tourism promotions to highlight our rich artistry and music. This song, especially that it is about nature, would serve best as soundtrack for Mindanao tourism ad.
Unfortunately they would prefer the song titled " piliin mo ang Pilipinas" as the official tourism theme song to promote Filipino culture 😂
They're busy doing shitty politicians interests.
The best version. Nothing beats a Mindanaoan choir singing their own original song.
Yes! Same observation here. Watched other chorale sing this song. All were great and harmonious but if you can hear closely, their pronunciation got more authenticity vibes on it. Maybe because they know how to speak the language better...?
But isn't it a cebuano folk song?
@@xxxxxxxxxx1600 It's a T'boli song. One of the lumads in the Mindanao.
@@kylereacts8331 thanks. Because I heard from another choir competition, it was introduced as a Cebuano folk song and composed and arranged by a Cebuano.
I proud im one of lumad but don't know how to sing like them 😂
For those who want the lyrics' translation (like me), I found this comment from another rendition of this song:
"There is a beautiful tree on top of the mountain
It has soft leaves and needle-like thorns
I wish to climb that tree on the mountain
A bird rests on its branches
How I wish I can catch the bird, but I know I cannot."
Posting it here since this is by far my favorite rendition. I like the contrast of fluidity and crispness on this one. Also, there's something about the movements and facial expressions that shows the Filipino spirit - bright, soft, and sweet, but also: silently strong and resilient.
thank YOU!
Thank you❤
Is that a Korean song?
@@okgoogle323 its from the philippines.
@ok google it
Damn. I'm from luzon but I felt this in my soul. This is what couldve been for the filipinos. This is our culture and heritage that's been stripped away from us. I hope we can gain our identity again.
Thank you for speaking through your music. I genuinely loved this.
My thoughts exactly. I had massive goosebumps and even teared up while listening to this. It really is such a shame that our culture was taken away from us.
Thank you for appreciating our Tribes Culture.. Visit south Cotabato.. Visit Lake Sebu... 😊
Nothing has been taken away. It's just a matter of not being familiar with certain things. If you are from Luzon, then it will be expected that you don't know certain things from Mindanao. It's the same everywhere. People from Northern China also have a different culture from the people from Southern China. Likewise in Japan, Korea, etc.
this is not taken away from us. kultura ito sa may mindanao so hindi 'to kultura ng luzon kagaya natin. 2022 na, may pinaghihinayangan pa rin tayo? hindi porket may spanish influence yung kultura natin mga "kristiano", ibig sabihin ay kultura yun ng mga "taga espana"... if you dig deeper ang culture ng mga tagalogs or christianized filipino ay napaka southeast asian na nakabalot sa spanish attire ( do you get it) . tandaan natin isa tayong kapuluaan na pinagsama sama lang. we have an identity as modern filipino ang kaso dahil nakita mo lang na may spanish influence eh hindi na filipino. sana eh makita mo na INFLUENCE lamang hindi acquired or copied from the spanish
Try to visit mindanao,we still so much left of past b4 colonialism.we still have soo much culture that are still intact hanggang ngayon.
imagine a disney princess pre-colonial setting. i wanna cry. 😭
amaya
this could be a background music of amaya or any other precolonial movie of future movies to come. its such a wonderful music fits for that setting
Just move to Mindanao
Princess Raya from Raya and The Last Dragon (2021) comes close to this.
@@doobervallard If Mindanao would be a separate country. It would be more exotic and richer than the Philippines (Luzon and Visayas)
The song is Koyu no tebulul from the tribe of T'boli of South Cotabato Mindanao. It tries to capture the reverberation of mountain singing with birds chirping and cricket. ❤
Wow! Without looking at the title I honestly thought this was an intro to another Disney film or something. It's definitely giving that mysterious, adventurous, tropical or ancient vibe! Amazing work 🤯!
Exactly
Gives me that Frozen feels
Moana vibes
@@kourant agree! It was like that song they sang at the start of the movie
@@kai_yue that's Vuelie!
I like this version of Koyu No Te Bulul. It's like they are whispering.
What does Koyu mean?
this song makes me imagine about nature, the forests, the mountains... it brings me to nature or it calls out to me... amazing perfomance btw.. and this is by far my favorite version
because it is literally a song about nature haha
Just wanted to express it that way 🙂listening to this for the first time was the first thought that came to my mind..🦋
@@nightingalek.6526 uhm i was just saying that, that is the literal meaning of the song nothing against ur comment why are u pressed hahahaahhaha
My austronesian + southeast asian spirit has awaken again like magic! This was superb philippine music and culture! 😍😍 Mabuhay!!
Thank you for representing the T'boli tribe of the Philippines, University of Mindanao Chorale! Mabuhay
I heard a lot of different version of this folk song but this one is my favorite ❤. Very clean and the pronounciation top. I can clearly hear those different sounds and dynamics ❤ love it
my soul needs a 1 hour version of this
or maybe a 10
me too. i need this on repeat!
Just hit the loop button in the settings po🤗
this is the first time i heard of this folksong and i didnt even know this folksong existed until i saw this short reel on facebook. cant help but to look for the full vid on youtube. Now i cant stop myself listening on repeat while tears falling. It gives me a nostalgic vibes about how rich Philippines is in terms of culture. Its sad to say that we have hidden gems that are still hidden. This deserve a national recognition. This should have been played during the 2019 SEA Games.
same here. i came across it on fb reels and when i saw this video, i cried the entire time. not because i was sad but because it is a very beautiful song and that it shows how rich the Filipino culture is.
Very same here.
Check also the ateneo choir rendition of this,
This is why I wish the government funded more efforts to preserve these songs, epics, oral histories, etc. while they still exist. They are slowly dying out. And it's ironic that it's foreign anthropologists who have more interest in preserving them.
Eto yung magandang gamitin sa malalaking events like Olympics if ever the Philippines takes the rights to host it. Goosebumps 👏
Which means in a thousand years?
@@DXTRChannel true
@@DXTRChannel not in our lifetime haha
Di nila ginamit to nong dito pa olympic purp artista pinakanta
The Philippines hosting the olympics 😂😂😂 with what infrastructures?
I was not surprised with the song specially the melody because when I lived with the Bagubo tribe in North Cotabato in the 70's, I heard the children singing with same melody but I did not understand because I speak bisaya. They danced in circle around the fire at night and they even asked me to join them. Their tribe leader an old widow woman named Bagungan was watching them closely smiling. I was 8 years old that time.
A Mindanao song sung aptly by a Mindanao choir! Bravo!
“山頂有一棵美麗的樹 它有柔軟的葉子和針狀的刺 我想爬上山上的那棵樹 一隻鳥在它的樹枝上休息 我多麼希望我能抓住那隻鳥,但我知道我做不到。”
First time listening to this song and this is soooo beautiful! 😍 Thank you so much for bringing such wonderful music to Taiwan! 🇹🇼🇵🇭
That closed mouth “HMMMMMM” of the soprano at the end. 🥹🫰🏼💜
There's more to the Philippines than just lechon or adobo; such a rich heritage and I hope more people (especially Filipinos) learn about the whole spectrum of it
the cling from their accessories sounds beautiful too. a

Wow, Philippines take their choir music seriously. They have so many awesome groups
I love this version. Their voices are so much softer and they don't out sing one another unlike some of the chorale I have heard in the past.
Amazing performance...Perfection! [驚人的表現……完美!]
This sounded like a Main Theme for a Disney Animation!!! Well done, University of Mindanao! You've made Filipinos everywhere VERY PROUD!👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
This is better than any Disney Animation song.
It's like the song of the mountains and the clouds. Bravo!
and it actually is :) It's something like "The Tree in the Hill".
Your correct. "Trees in the mountain"
Just noticed this from browsing on my FB wall... And now I Can't stop playing this over and over again... It's so mesmerising... Kudos to you all! 🇵🇭
Same 🤜🤛
I have this on loop and ive been crying for 10mins. I’m so moved by their voices …sooo sooo beautiful 😭 Filipinos are so talented they know how to captivate hearts ❤️
This kind of music should be renowned internationally, Mindanao is Beautiful, Philippines is Beautiful 🙏🥰
Parang nagsasalita yung mga ancestor ko while listening this oh my mindanao culture!!! ❤️❤️
Mindanao proud to preserve their nonhispanic identity!
The pronunciation of tboli language is accurate.
Sobrang ganda! I know it's a cliche thing to say but i am proud of these talented people, I'm proud of the composer and arranger of this piece, I'm proud of the ethnic ensemble. Basta ang ganda nakakaiyak.
So Proud Of my T'Boli Tribe Culture of South Cotabato
Wew! U.M Chorale's version, for me, is the best among all Koyu No Te Bulul performances I've seen. It's like Eatnemen Vuelie from Frozen
What does Koyu mean?
@@eviekoyu6390 Koyu No Te Bulul means "Wood On Top Of The Mountain"
@@ihaytyu Koyu = Woods🪵🌳
OMG ang ganda! Hindi lang ito basta tboli tribe lang sa mindanao pero pride of the philippines to!! our ancestors, our culture!
Last Summer I visited Lake Holon and learned some basic phrases from the local of Tboli. Their greetings is like speaking a word from Encantadia. Hyu h'lafus !
I swear this is definitely a one of a kind performance that deserves to be discovered by many.
Proud Tboli
I love how they came up with this masterpiece
"Koyu no te bulul" means in The tree in the mountain
Probably the cleanest version as of this posting!
The arrangement preserved the spirit of song. University of Mindanao promoting Mindanao. ❤
Perfection! The best rendition of a Mindanaoan with authentic T’boli representation.
By far the most mesmerising thing I’ve seen and heard, I must listen to this once a day at least since I saw it about 3 weeks ago. Great way to start the day.
I love the madrigal singers' version when it comes to cleanliness and control. But it's just their enunciations that makes me appreciate their version more than the rest.❤
from the versions I have watched in yt from 13 yrs ago to now, this is the most beautiful one for me. It it so peaceful, ethereal, i really feel like i heard the forest and the birds.
When I close my eyes,I see mountains and rich forest..
I have no idea what the song is all about
Magical
It may sound musically simple but this is vocally not easy.
Bagay itong kanta kapag may Disney princes na ang Pinas 😊
This sounds so beautiful and ethereal. This is the first time I’ve heard of this song and it made me tear up. I’m from Luzon but it makes me proud and lowkey sad. This is the culture that was stripped from us 🥲
What do you mean stripped? It wasn't stripped from us. Filipinos have just forgotten or didn't value it as much as they do other types of music. Hopefully there will be a renaissance.
@@Vic82toire By your very definition, it had been stripped. Hundreds of years of colonization will do that. Filipinos didn’t just casually forget. Our native culture and language were mocked and deemed inferior by the colonizers so our ancestors had to adjust. People suffered for it so they had no choice but to favor Spanish culture. Filipinos then were rewarded for knowing and using Spanish over Tagalog or other native dialect because it implied being “educated” and belonging in the upperclass. In that same grain, it translated to music and the rest of the culture. It’s no different today when with comes to English fluency and foreign music/arts. It has been ingrained in us for so long that “local” is inferior and that’s difficult to unlearn. Unless we actively promote and push for this renaissance in mainstream media, sadly this part of our culture is a novelty at best since it doesn’t exist in our daily lives now.
I cried too
This is the best version of this song. Fight me.
Goosebumps and totally a world class... felt it beyond my soul, time, nature and all elements... Kudos!
I saw this from a reel in IG and loved every second of it. It feels like it was being sung as Southern Philippines was being created. I am from Manila but my dad is Ilocano and my mom is from Manila (Batangas and Quezon Province decent).
It would be awesome to have this kind of symphonic music with each dialect and each province.
I truly am into somewhat "rock tribal" music. Mostly I have listened to The Hu (Mongolian), Skald (Finish or Danish), and ofcourse Babanam by Kadangyan
But this is just amazing...
This is a piece of music of such grandeur without the usual makings of what usually considered to constitute greatness in choral piece... The pianos are very intense!
Thank you for this UM. Tey kenoon mungol du. (It's so beautiful to listen to.) Proud T'boli here. ❤❤❤
Once in a while I get yt recommendations of Filipino chorale music performances and other nationalities that borrow our compositions. So proud og Filipino chorale traditional music and amazing arrangers! Sana mabigyan pa ng pansin ang chorale music ng Pilipinas
Hope we can preserve our culture. This song really touched my soul.
I need this in my Spotify playlist!!!❤❤❤
its like i am watching moana, the song really fits so much.. i hope disney will make a movie related to Filipinos.. our traditional music is superb compared nowadays.... ☺️☺️☺️
i think this should have been performed during the Alveo Ironman in Davao City prior to the awarding of the podium finishers... This is just so perfectly fit to their theme...
this is my favorite version of all the versions on RUclips
Best version!!! The song has its own soul
I'm still addicted to this. It has been almost 2 yrs since it was posted. I still feel the same emotion.
I love every second of it. I watched it several times and it gaves me goosebumps that chills to my bones. 1M thumbs up to this choir.. 👏👏👏👏👏
My grandpa once said to me: "There are songs, however you may find it strange, finds a way to speak to your soul."
Is this it Lolo? what the hell? 😱😱😱
Wow! Amazing🎉🎉🎉
So nice to hear and look at ! Mood enhancing, soulish 😊
will forever be inlove with this rendition 😭🤎 way to go, UM Chorale! 🥺
It's like your listening to nature. I like it very much.
This rendition makes me long for a place I’ve never been to…. Fernweh.. ❤😢
Very austronesian nung kanta it’s important that we shouldn’t forget our roots 🌊💙

prior to the spanish colonization, the group of islands(now called the Philippines) are divided. What brought them under the same banner and religion is colonization. so isn't your statement quite ironic... that's why I commented "hmmm" at first hahaha
Thats why imelda marcos and mao zhe dong were friends... inspite of all the noise.. they were sincere and friendly towards each other. It was just culture.
