- Who would have thought that a Volvo, and electric Volvo, would be the fastest car on South Africa's roads for under R1 million? It is crazy to think, right? But anyhoo, here we are. I am all over this EV, even if I am not hugely sold on them.
PS. Can you spot the Hippo in the video? You could win one for yourself. Just saying ;)

Having visited South Africa just once last year? I’m watching this to listen to Juliet’s SAf accent and the lovely Cape Town backdrop 😆. Which suburb is this?
Looks like Three Anchor Bay and environs.
Ahhhhh I hope you come and visit again. This is along the Atlantic Seaboard.
Thanks both. Cape Town is so pretty. Reminded me a bit of Sydney where I live.
Central screens are a significant safety risk. Controls accessed only via a screen obviously distract the driver's eyes. And yet they build in a camera to monitor that your eyes don't leave the front screen. How nuts is that? Regulatory bodies should force car makers to include physical buttons. Otherwise, screen only accessed controls should not receive a safety rating.
Yup!!!
So many cars had central ‘screens’, minis, Morris minors, etc. They’re only a distraction if you let them be.
@@stevedunn3113- Totally disagree. It’s not that central screens are the problem, it’s that they are putting all the controls on the screen. HVAC and audio controls should never be put in a screen. These are things that a person will constantly adjust. I can change the temp in my car without looking, I know that each click of the knob is 0.5 degree increase of decrease. At 70mph taking your eyes off the road for 2 seconds means to have traveled 63 metres or 208ft without looking….that could be the difference between life and death.
Most important things can be done via voice control. Even safer than physical buttons.
I was scared going to a Tesla after ‘normal’ screens but got used to it after driving 15 miles home.Millions of other drivers have no complaints.
The Volvo is no different.
Use VActivation if worried.
Easy to change vol/ temp/ anything.
Simple life, when 90% of any functions are used once and fixed ..
This is my new favorite car
Have been waiting for this review, have seen a few of these ex30's on the road, so want one
Google Assistant is your friend
Ordered the twin motor performance in the UK - can’t wait!
Ooooh send pics!!!!!
An EV in SA where you have "load shedding" ?? No brainer .
Why did you stuff poor hippo into the centre cubby!
hahahaha
Obviously, you will get used to the menu's and this enables you to choose the commands much quicker. To figure it out while on the go is not very clever. You have to familiarize yourself with the system before driving off! Sound bars in cars are the future in case you didn't know. I am excited about new technology! How does the car handle at speed? Does it feel stable while using all that power? How is it in traffic in town? Obviously, it is not designed as a family car, but the bootspace seems to be adequate for me. You only look for points to criticise, it seems. It is too fast, too loud, too small, too minimalistic, too futuristic, too odd. Judge it for what it is designed for.
I do my research and then go through the entire car, familiarising myself before writing a draft script and then filming. There is only so much I can do in a limited time. But remember, I do this for a living. So I compare apples with apples. If I am not struggling with other cars and I have the same amount of time with them. So if it is tricker than most, I am going to comment on it.
I am not here to criticise the car, I review them. You will notice positive points too. I am certain you will find all the info you require on many, many other reviews of this car. ;)
@julietmcguire OK fair enough. Each car serves a market segment. I would buy this car because it's fast and funky. So there is no point in saying it is small and the screen is a nuisance. I just want to know how it copes with that incredible performance. To get from 0 to 100 on a few seconds is one thing but then you also need reassuring handling, good brakes etc. There is really no point in saying you don't like screens. Compare the operating system, responding time, visibility and report any glitches. And why can't you show some excitement and appreciation? Every car has it's good points. I would ho euphoric about this performance! And the fact that Volvo offers these cars, which should supercar acceleration, fior less than R1m is awesome! Why always look for the negative?
Car prices are exorbitant 😢
Fabulous review from a gorgeous lady ❤
Exterior great. Interior not so much.
That is nice! I'm gonna get that car, its fan!
If you find it so difficult why not use voice commands
It was interesting watching how long your eyes were off the road when working with a touchscreen... ridiculous foefie that it is. Cheap to make.
Love the exterior design. Interior functionality will annoy me to no end.
Exactly. But to be fair, someone who spends more time in the car would probably be better at it and hopefully less distracted, BUT, one still has to look at the screen regardless too often and I don't love that.
What happened to Naked insurance?
So Juliet the panoramic sunroof doesn't have the curtain cover the ĝlass?
U can buy as accessorie for it.
I would have thought for safety that the driver had some controls on the steering wheel. I dont think it did?
There are some. They felt a bit plasticky though for me.
Wow looks stunning - and the car also looks good.
;)
Juliet is so hot 🥰
Not quite understanding the comments on rear space. I have a family of four using a Kia Picanto right now and this seems positively huge in comparison and created exactly for a standard family.
She may have a rugby forward for a husband. So it’s relative.
@@achmadosman9807 hahaha
Totally hear you. Except that when you are paying as much as this car costs, you might want a little more space. ;)
@@julietmcguire aah I get you. It’s a very South African context problem with EV bullshit taxes pricing there I suspect
Well... Hyundai Ionic 5 N is well under a mil, and faster, and faster. Acceleration & top speed... 😛
Great vidoe Juliet love the vidoes you make, just these cars are goodlooking but the price JOH JOH 😮
May be worth running a poll to find out the ratio between privately owned driver and company car drivers.
I'd never consider an EV if it was my own money but as a company car driver I can't ignore the tax benefit
Xpower is as quick and from what i see on reviews gets the power down better. XE doeant seem to be able to consistently do the 0-60
Saw a pale green model here in Ballito for the first time the other day, such a beautiful car. Looked smaller than I expected too.
This car is really gorgeous inside...how I wish I had that amount of money I'd buy it as in yesterday.
Love the hippo in the center console in the back. Smart hiding spot 😂❤ Looooove this review. I must admit, I did not expect this vehicle to be so nice.
Been driving one for a couple of months, it's not a problem.
This EV is quick but not fast. Top speed is pathetic
Great review
Why do car manufacturers continue to provide drivers with things they don't want... i.e. a touch screen to control everything over physical buttons? Also, bless you... for the sneeze.
hahaha
Our beautiful mother city ❤️ 🇿🇦
You in that jacket, in that car!!! Winning Combination!!!
Neh?!
What a creep!
@@pharcomx how so?
Not ready to drive a microwave. Then there's the stupid screen. I don't want to have to turn my head to keep an eye on the speed I'm doing.
Wait until you find out youre setting fire to petrol and damaging stink comes out the rear end
@@AlanTov and digging up precious metals just so it can be totaled by relatively minor damages and possibly of fires that are really difficult to extinguish is much worse
Just ask google to change the temp on the air con 😵💫
I do it quicker than Google does it. I am impatient ha ha
Juliet's so pretty. Think I missed of the specs mentioned in the video. I'll need to watch maybe 3 or 4 more times.
You look all sorts of sexy when you pony your hair, lovely review Juliet. 🙌🏾
I assume no CarPlay because Google?
My polestar 2 has carplay.
Another EV, no buttons,no knobs,no soul and exorbitantly priced that will be worth nothing in 2 years. Nissan X-Trail AWD 2.5l CVT please.
so... a car which will hit 0-100km/h faster than a Porsche, but requires you to spend an inordinate amount of time with eyes off the road whilst you poke around on an iPad....
no thanks, I've had enough with iDrive 8, going back to a car with no touch screen.
haha exactly!
Don't know....the Merc EQA and the BMWiX1 just look better and so much more premium. Those cloth seats🤮....
All recycled materials in this guy!
The eqa and ix1 are low budget junk
@@adrianscarlett and so is the Volvo.
Love me some Goldfish, the car not so much, ICE ftw :P
EDIT: I see the hippo between the two front seats facing backseat drivers :)
