In an unarmored fight try this: -Go into Half Sword stance -Hold down both Right and Left Click -Start launching a thrust with Alt -Release right click but continue holding left click You'll throw a stab out from the half sword position into the standard position with a bit of extra reach due to starting it from one hand, very good as a bait to draw the opponent in
one good method for half-swording is to hold your sword up and try and get it up and over their head. ideally you can basically be bear-hugging them, so they can't use their arms, and you can wrestle them to the ground and then stabby stab
A gungame style video where you go from polearm to dagger, dropping a weapon for each kill as you fight the three opponents in the last stand mod could be a cool concept perhaps.
Easiest way to fish for holes is tapping ALT without sweeping the 🐁! Also grabs go so hard with half swording lol. Once the blade is gently placed on an opening hitting Q often drives that shit home. You gotta try it! A video w/ bladed grappling would be awesome

You forgot to account for a third possibility: The game literally just cheats. I'm not kidding. I've played TONS of little matches on the default difficulty and I've legit learned how to use the greatsword and the axe rather well. You can straight up CLOBBER someone with the axe or the flat of the sword, which would be like a knockout blow for the player, and the enemy will STILL fight. They can also just somehow suddenly stab you in the foot, cripple you, and then you bleed out and die in moments. I'm convinced the game genuinely bumps up the damage for the player on the default difficulty while massively scaling down the damage the enemies receive. The game cheats. I've seen way too many instances of it for it to just be what the sweaty basement monkeys call a "skill issue".
