I thought the 37 hour long make out scene between Godzilla and Shimo was a little unnecessary but having it lead into the final fight caught me off guard so anyways 10/10 movie

Unsurprisingly, a good chunk of them were just bashing the movie by comparing it to Minus One. I can assure you that I read more than "three tweets" (mostly because I stay off of Twitter).

the best part of the movie is there are no cutaways between the monster fight scenes and the human scenes

Yes, them killing off Bryan Cranston's character pretty early was a frustrating choice, but that movie made many other frustrating choices too. It's slowly grown on me over the years, but it's my least favorite entry of the Monsterverse and probably always will be. Every movie since then has been pretty good, in my opinion.
This and minus one are perfect examples of perfecting both spectrums of Godzilla. The serious, and the goofy

How about the Heisei era. Or GMK or even the Kong Skull Island or Godzilla 2014. I know people don't like Judging the "fun" type Godzilla films but you don't need minus one critique this movie.

The film was great, I loved almost everything about it. But upon a second watch, the human characters got a little more annoying because they just do not SHUT up! I like their personalities, and I need a Trapper spinoff NOW! But they just say literally everything that’s going on, when the environment should be doing the story for them. But it’s clear they did it for the kiddies so they understood. Still can’t wait to watch it 926 more times in the cinema!
How exactly would you react if they made Trapper pilot a jet jaguar for the next movie?

When Godzilla makes land fall in Spain, the shot of a fighter jet taking off an aircraft carrier is recycled from KOTM. Pointing out something i noticed when watching the film on the big screen. Its a pretty fun movie!
That was the thing that full on made me accept, jep this is a showa film made in 2024, everything is here and i love it
When Kong met up with Godzilla in the desert and said, "We aren't just monsters, we're family; now lets go take down this new empire" I started crying
I hate seeing every Critic on RUclips call this film "action movie trash" and compare it to Minus One, when in reality this movie doesn't want to be like Minus One it just wants to have fun. You did this film justice by reminding everyone of that.
I was actually invested in what you were on about when you said that there was a certain scene, I had my volume up and every and then Titanosaurus scared me.
I hope we get solo movies for both Kong and Godzilla before a 3rd team up movie. I'd like for them to take inspiration for the Heisei era this time around with a more serious tone. Madison is in desperate need for a purpose, why not sacrifice her for Biollante.
A major problem with this movie is how little Godzilla is a part of this movie it literally "he's moving or getting power" till Kong shows up at the surface. Why couldn't we get a flashback of him facing Skar King to establish his reasoning for getting power instead of boring lore exposition. We didn't even get a good idea on why he needed this power up. Since we don't get to see him against Skar King.
Is what im saying, the Monsterverse should take the KOTM or Heisei tone: both have crazy and fun things but take themselves serious
And also im agree about Madison needeing for a purpoise, tbh she was a character with a wasted potential and judging by what we saw in KOTM she was the better option to bring Mothra back instead of Jia

Apparently the movie is supposed to be about Kong, or from what I search. So they shoehorn in Godzilla, give him a plot about getting stronger, so they can focus more on Kong while Godzilla is getting stronger in background

Just because a Godzilla movie is more serious or better written doesn't make it a better movie. Writing is one aspect of a film, but there's also visuals, soundtrack, cinematography, plot, humor, sound design etc. People say Gojira is the best Godzilla movie, and yet which one was rewatched most by the average American? Megalon. If you enjoy a movie more than another, then that's the better film. Don't let any of these elitists try and make you feel bad because you prefer camp over serious melodrama. There are different forms of entertainment. Some people like horror, some people like comedy, some people like action. Godzilla has something for everyone and there is no "best Godzilla movie" it's all subjective.

In a defense, Megalon was the one TV played the most. The original film was one of the last Showa movies I saw as a kid. Imagine my confusion seeing the kung-fu super dinosaur being a villain.

I mean. The zero gravity made the fight more of an under water style battle. Which was probably why Godzilla had the best maneuverability during it.

I did not expect the april fools video to be an orga reviews. Lets just say i got... fooled.
Now I wouldn’t say GxK is better than MO but holy fucking shit, I wanted every damn hit to feel like it HURT and by god did this film deliver, I just fucking love every single time these movies(both Toho and MV) characterize these monsters and make us want to see what crazy hijinks they get up to, I remember sitting in the theatre screaming internally “YEAH KONG FUCK THEM UP GO GET IM YOU BIG FAT HAIRY BASTARD!!!!”

This movie was dumb, crazy and fun and I love it. This movie was such an enjoyable time. It was never boring, in my opinion.

Your analysis of this as a big budget Showa Era film is 100% accurate. It really gave me everything I want out of a good Godzilla film
Honesty, the Egypt rematch just felt unnecessary, considering that it still ended with Godzilla pinning Kong down. If Kong HAD managed to keep walloping Goji and successfully knocked him out, it would be a different story, because it would show that Kong (with the B.E.A.S.T. glove) is now strong enough to take Godzilla on in a hand-to-hand brawl, even when his opponent has evolved to a more powerful form. That, and I’d like to think that Kong would be smart enough to make 110% sure that Godzilla is out cold before trying to drag him into the Hollow Earth, ESPECIALLY a after GvK.
I love how the Scatt King points at Kong laughing, thank you Winguard for giving us such meme material. Also I am glad that my theory lived up and saw Shimo as the empathetic abused dog who wasnt killed but freed and I was so happy to see her happy that she was now free, she was a victim not an enemy.

Trigger warning if you can't handle negative opinions:
I had no expectations, but I still didn't like it. There was so much cgi going on and it was so fast paced that my brain turned to mush halfway through. Scar King and Shimo were underdeveloped and weak threats, so maybe that's why the fights didn't land as hard as the other monsterverse movies. Almost zero plot to elevate those fights (it doesn't need a great story, but it does need a good reason for things to happen). Music was just as bland as the last one. And of course they still have to put in one insufferable character in every movie (this time Bernie). I just don't find campy cgi as endearing as campy suitmation.
On the positive side, Scar King's introduction was cool, Kong's antics were funny, and the gravity battle was fun. I'm glad others like it and it's doing well. I don't want Godzilla to leave for another decade again even if I'm not a fan of his American direction.

@user-kc9ch2lt4k To clarify, I still think the Monsterverse is great. I just wish Wingard cared a little more than just the monster fights alone as more developed stories, plot, scale, and characters would only serve to elevate their stakes and impact, even if most fans don't care about that. That's why I prefer the first three Monsterverse movies more than Wingard's two. But he sure is great with monster action, and I hope Legendary keeps making them. Great time to be a fan!
Godzilla's powerup felt extremely pointless. The movie really needed an prologue where godzilla gets his shit wrecked in by Shimo. The framework of it is already there, just have the bit in rome with Scylla be it attacking him after being weakened. Shimo and the final fight are just a big let down..

Let's be honest Mib april fool pranks are the best pranks
Of course Godzilla Minus One is amazing, but Godzilla X Kong is almost close to being amazing in it's own right. If they just focused on Kong and the other monsters, and let the visuals and facial expressions tell the story.
But I do give credit that the humans in GXK did play their part, but they are dangerously close to being amazing. For example there's the scene where Bernie is filming the lost Iwi tribe in Hollow Earth, and Trapper asks what he's going to do with that footage. Then Trapper makes a speech on how most undeveloped tribes get destroyed by constant exposure to the outside world. Now this could lead to an excellent character moment for Bernie where he decides between his viewers or his moral compass, but it there is no pay off (Maybe there's going to be an extended cut of GXK where there is some form of pay off, but don't quote me on this) the camera isn't destroyed, Bernie doesn't say anything else, just nothing happens.
I want Anguirus. Full stop. Still my fav Kaiju.

I waited to watch this after I watched Godzilla X Kong: New Empire in theaters
This is one huge thing I don’t like about the monster verse. Whatever it’s called they keep bringing in new characters you have this set in stone cast that you can use and they just keep changing them like they had these people from Godzilla versus Kong and they didn’t use them. But I’m not saying that’s a bad thing because that cast wasn’t the best

It is wild, two Godzilla movies, only months apart, that couldn't be more different, and it looks like they'll both be successful! It's indeed a golden age for Godzilla.
Exactly how I feel we’re living in the modern showa era for Godzilla, where we get serious films, and then wild monster beat em ups. It’s amazing.
I liked both movies alot and for different reasons. Minus One was a Human story with Godzilla as a backdrop. KxG is a Monster Story with Humans as a backdrop. Both entertaining and effective.
Has anyone else realized that the villains are technically evil versions of Godzilla and Kong?

Watching this well after April 1st. Yeah Minus One was incredible, but this was pretty awesome, too. It's been a great year for Godzilla!
The director said in a recent interview that if he does a third movie, he wants to focus on Godzilla like he did with Kong in this movie!
I still don't agree that this film is like the showa era as it still reminds me of marvel more than anything.

That was a good April Fools joke, but I have to disagree on the 'don't compare GxK to G-1' stuff. Yes, they are two different films with two different tones and that tell two different stories, but I believe that the approaches each film takes to its writing and how successfully they achieve them can be compared and contrasted off of each other. I think that could lead to an interesting discussion on the nature of storytelling and the effects of genre and tone. Also, it's one thing to judge one film based on the quality of the other, it another thing to judge both films on the same objective standard, and comparing how each fairs against that standard. If you don't want to compare them, that's fine, but I think everyone has the right to compare and contrast them if they so desire, regardless of how different their tones and stories may be.
But, I can agree on one thing: you certainly did the zero-gravity fight better :)
Yup I agree, saying you can’t compare the two movies is dumb. Compared to the writing of Minus One , GXK sucks. Compared to action of GXK, Minus One is a little lackluster. While they both a different tones and themes, you can compare how well they execute them. Which they both did, Minus One was human driven story about grief, survival, and community. GXK was about the spectacle of monsters running around fighting. Whichever you like more is completely subjective.
There’s too much toxic positivity and negativity around the G fandom. Just because someone prefers a more dumb fun or a serious fun movie doesn’t mean you gotta call em a hater and act like a 6 year old playground bully. So what if they call GXK a dumb fun movie, thats what it is, pure spectacle to be enjoyed, not necessarily a insult when it’s marketed as being a cheesy action movie. Same goes for Minus One, it’s marketed as a grounded, serious, human driven Godzilla movie, don’t expect Godzilla vs Megalon then hate on it.
Some movies are definitely better than others when it comes to writing but that’s only half of it. The other half is the entertainment value (enjoyment) it give’s each person.

I feel like the make-out scenes between the lead kaijus were great parts of the movie. They really showed us the human sides of the Kaiju and how much they have grown since their introductions. Oh and I really enjoyed Knifehead’s part in the film. He really brought a lot of the story together and tied the entire Monsterverse lore together. Definitely movie of the year.

This movie was Awesome!
Me and my family had a great time with it. My Mom loved it do to how much of a huge Kong fan she is. Lol.
Even the crowd at the theater we went to cheered during certain moments.
Watched it Yesterday and man i just love the Movie, i have a few minor issues mainly that Godzilla felt more like a Side Character than a Main Role but his scenes were HEAT! (especially that jump from the Mountain!)
And Jia suddenly being that special to just bring back Mothra.
But these are the only things i can think of, other than that everything was great! Sure not the best but god dammit i had so much Fun!
Even the Humans Made me laugh Sometimes.
Skar King was a great Villain and the Scene where he just stood there staring down at Kong gave me Chills. Shimo was okay, wish there was a bit more to her.
