    One thing people fail to acknowledge even if it is crystal clear, TFA is garbage and was garbage before TLJ was conceived of.
    TFA laid the foundation and set the mood for the Disney Star Wars we all know today. This new Rey film is DOA, no one but KK wants it.

    Disney's biggest mistake was not using the EU books to give fans the story they had waited for....when fans went to see TFA all they got was a new hope clone. From thst point onwards fans were always going to not watch star wars in the cinema.

    Just put the entire Star Wars IP away in that deep cavernous vault Disney has. Close off Lucasfilms getting rid of the entire staff. Scrub the company from top to bottom. When society is back to normal and talent has come back, try again.

Iger COULD have tried to invent a new girl/female focused brand instead of Bud Lighting EVERY boy brand they had and messing up MOST of the Disney brand in the process.

      I'd argue that the 32 years of anticipation for an Episode VII was the catalyst for TFA making 2 billion dollars rather than anything else. Definitely not on its own merit. If Episode VII had been good, it would have made 3 billion, and the sequels would have been good, too. Disney should have made their money back on the whole deal by the end of the ST.

      @WokeFailsWokeFailsWokeFails Exactly.
      And that's the thing, a good or authentic post-RotJ Star Wars universe does not involve a Luke Skywalker that is a complete failure. There would be some failures, sure (that's part of a good story), but not complete failure on a level which destroys an entire IP.

    "Delayed for years" means "cancelled." They can't expect directors, actors, writers, and other staff to just sit around and do nothing while the movie isn't being made, and the less momentum it has, the less likely it will ever get fully funded, get a script, lock in shooting dates, etc.

    Doesn't matter if the super talented Steven Knight was going to write/direct/produce this Rey movie, you wouldn't see a smidge of his talent come thru onscreen simply because of Granny Kathy calling the shots. If the even more talented James Mangold couldn't make a half decent Indy Jones film because he had to fall under the directives of Granny, that's what most of the talent would fall foul of.

    • @matthewgaudet4064
      @matthewgaudet4064 3 месяца назад

      It's not exactly paradigm shifting or earth shattering it is a low budget kids movie that cost 120 million. They can make money, but that is not the way to make Star Wars a movie franchise again. A tv movie in theaters. You can only sell so many Grogu toys and dolls, if any.

    • @davidgantenbein9362
      @davidgantenbein9362 3 месяца назад

      @@matthewgaudet4064 It’s pretty much the only movie project they have that’s moving ahead. And while I agree that 120 million is no budget at all at Disney, other companies could do a cinematic movie with it. But yes, it’s a rather small project, though it seems only these are left at Lucasfilm anyway.
      Personally I expect it to fail in terms of reinvigorating Star Wars, but then again stranger things have happened. It may just be my negative preconceptions on Star Wars. And honestly, I‘m not sure what announcement could even convince me that this is the thing that will save Star Wars at this point. My personal guess is that it’s impossible to save Star Wars with one big project and that truly rebuilding it will instead take time and a lot of good stuff, while avoiding any further bombs.

      @@davidgantenbein9362 , I would not be worried about Favreau I think he can bring it on budget shoot on the 4K Alexa and on the volume if they don't overspend on marketing its a slam dunk. The Filoni movie on the other hand, would worry me he is not a director, it's like allowing Andrew Stanton to make John Crater of Mars. The Rey movie with an unproven director is also an unknown quality, and the Mangold movie he is a solid director who destroyed his career with Indiana Jones.

    • @davidgantenbein9362
      @davidgantenbein9362 3 месяца назад

      @@matthewgaudet4064 All the other movies seem still stuck in development or rumored to be dead. Favreau‘s movie is the only one that seems to really go forward with production right now. In terms of budget, I would guess that from all people supposedly working on a SW movie, he is probably best at staying within a budget, so I‘m not that worried about the budget per se, though 120 million in Disney speech means „here you have something, now bother someone else“.
      What I‘m worried, if that’s the right word even, is that constant interference by Lucasfilm executives will destroy what little chance Favreau‘s movie had after Mando season 3 and whatever Book of Boba Fett was. But worried may be the wrong word as I‘m not interested in the movie, just in the career of Favreau.

    You’re right she’s gonna hang on for dear life because all she’s done is Pakistani films and docs. The other thing is Ms. Marvel which wasn’t bad but it’s a decent kids tv show. That’s all she’s done. So of course she’s gonna hang on for dear life on this film. What may happen is she will have to be uncomfortable if she wants more of a career in Hollywood when Kennedy contract isn’t extended and new leadership is in control at lucasfilm. Just be patient.

    "Needs work" means ''needs a new writer."

    Doesn't need more work. The Star Wars needs a reboot. Ditch the current story arc and restart it the way it was meant to. CGI it if you have to because some people are too old or have died or just start something new, but stop the woke I don't care. But for goodness sake, I would never watch this trash. Anything with Rey, I will no longer watch. Continue the assault on men? I will never go near it. I no longer call myself a Star Wars fan, and I couldn't care less if the whole franchise burns and dies. Good riddance in my opinion - what it is now? Might as well be dead to me.

    I could be wrong, but this cut with the new Star Wars Director about making men uncomfortable. She was generally talking about men mistreating women in India and a documentary she made, but I could be wrong about that.

    To be fair, the comments about making men uncomfortable were about her movies about women's situation in countries like Afghanistan and Saudi-Arabia, and about modern slavery. Men who oppress women there should feel uncomfortable. I think we can agree with that.

    The only men that this Rey movie made uncomfortable are Disney's shareholders. If you do not like this you don't have to watch it.

    I am not sure a live action movie can be just put on hold for years. Never mind something that is supposed to energize the franchise. By what ever time it comes out the cast will be too old to make any kind of sense unless they just drop a massive time skip into the story line. Rey going from the untrained new "Jedi" to the old master teaching kids some how with nothing in between.

      they can when it hasn't started filming. At that point the checks have been cut and interest is starting to accrue. But right now, in the pre-production phase.... yeah that can take forever i.e. development hell.

    • @JustaGuy_Gaming
      @JustaGuy_Gaming 3 месяца назад +2

      @@winterwolfsden I mean yes they can in a literal sense, but not in "will it be successful" kind of way. I am fairly sure there are few movies with a development time longer than 3-5 years that were any kind of success. The most recent example was the Borderlands movie, which I believe hung in limbo for about 10 years since it was first started.
      So many things go wrong with movies held up. Actors get older, audience interest in the story/franchise wanes and so on. Not that I think there is a ton of interest in a Rey movie, but what interest there is will only be worse in 5 or more years.

      @JustaGuy_Gaming oh I definitely agree with "holding up" in the potential sense. Sorry I wasn't thinking along that line. You're 100% right.

    I want Disney to double down on putting out the New Rey Palpatine movie. I'm hoping that this move is so bad that it sees a tanking of the share price and leaves room enough for Nelson Peltz, Elon Musk and friends for a hostile takeover...... That's when the fun begins......
