I think you'll really like the scope. I normally stay with Zeiss or Nightforce on my rifles, but had the opportunity to get the 4.5-27x50 Ares for under $600 and am very happy with it. It's kind of made me rethink overspending on the bigger names.

I have 2 Athlons, both are ARES BTR gen2 4.5x27x50. One with the APLR3 and one with the APLR4 reticles. I also have a Viper PST GEN2 5x25x50 and I do have to say that the eye box is more forgiving on the Viper IMO but not by no means a deal breaker. I do like my Athlons a little more and have had no issues with either. Nice choice!!

I recently picked up the same scope in 8-34x56! Mine is on my Ruger Precision Rimfire. Its been very very good!
Nice pearing to your big gun! ❤❤

    I'm sure you'll like it.
I recently got an Aries ETR recently because it was to good a deal to pass up?
It works awesome, but I'm still not sure I like ffp yet.
I'm sure glad we get to see the 340 get to shooting soon.

We will see how she holds up to the 340's recoil. Good luck with it.

I think it will hold up really well. Not worried at all about it.

Nothing wrong with Athlon and I totally agree with the Athlon over the Vortex. Never understood the Vortex crowd however each their own. Interesting that you got a first focal plane and the reticle choice. Are you going to dedicate the rifle to long range Target? Still you're putting together a very nice package. Good Luck

I wanted a Ares scope, and it's only offered in FFP.

Not familiar with this product specifically. However, I have had great experience with Chinese imported optics.
Presma is another good one. They are crystal clear, well built, hold up to the violent recoil of a punishing magnum, and the price is definitely right. You done good, R. Dubb!

Nice review! Does the Ares have locking turrets? Trying to decide between this Athlon scope and the Viper PST Gen 2 3-15x44 FFP with the EBR-2C MRAD reticle. I prefer MOA and in particular the Ares' reticle design. It just looks cleaner (to me) than the Viper's. The Viper line is always highly touted for its glass quality, but apparently the Ares gives it a run for its money. The Viper would be more expensive, but since the model with the EBR-2C reticle is now discontinued, they are significantly discounted making the Ares and Viper similarly priced with the Viper usually priced a bit lower.

Yes it has a locking turret. I've used both the Ares and the Viper PST Gen 2. Can't go wrong with either one. Glass quality seems about the same.

That's sacrilege! Nothing but a Zeiss, Swarovski, Schmidt Bender, or even a Leupold on a Wby Deluxe. Its like putting mini minor wheels on a Ferrari. So sad.😢
