USC Needs More Recruiting Noise

  • USC's last official visitor weekend of June is coming up and the staff needs to make some noise. It's been relatively quiet, so before the next dead period starts, it would help USC's recruiting momentum with a few more commitments
So far, USC's best recruiting haul happened following an unofficial visit when Justus Terry and a few others pledged to become members of the 2025 recruiting class. I explain why the next recruiting weekend is more important.
Coach Henny got another player endorsement. I explain why I don't care.

    Hi Marc,
Maybe you can pass along some of these ideas to LR and the USC staff. Sorry this text is so long.
I think that these are some of the things that USC needs to do with recruiting:
I know what USC has to offer over most of its top tier (football) competition: Tradition, national titles & Heismans, top coaches and training, pipeline to the pros, etc.
    What we lack is:
-A fun little college town surrounding the school.
-Training facilities with all the modern updated bells and whistles (reclining locker room chairs, game rooms, bowling alleys even. We are apparently building a facility with these types of amenities). Kids are swayed by stuff like this. (See College football's 25 most lavish facilities).
Maybe when a player commits early, like Willy Wascher, Gus Cordova, etc., we should have a perk package that we offer them.
-Start with training and guidance. They get access while they are still in high school to train with the USC athletes, watch film, get analysis and guidance beyond what they would usually get.
-Recruiting events: They would be invited to most or all of the remaining recruiting events this year to meet the other players, participate in the fun, and to help with recruiting. They can pick what they come to or can help with planning events.
-Class schedule: USC should not stop with just having professors be present at recruiting events. They should continue down that road and help the new recruits with their long-term plans and help them choose their classes accordingly.
-Tutors & Mentors: Also, football recruits, especially the early signups should have access to tutors and mentors that assist them with their schoolwork should they have difficulties through the year.
-Housing: Early signups should be offered top priority on the best student housing facilities available for Freshman. I know that this has to be shared with top academic student recruits, upper classmen, and Early Action enrolled students.
This is going to be key for the longevity of our football recruits well-being, happiness, and college experience.
When I was undergrad, I was housed at a pretty new apt complex right across the street from campus. I was lucky and it was pretty sweet!
Later when I worked in LA and later went back for my MBA, I lived all over. West LA, Santa Monica and ultimately in Manhattan Beach (I’m a surfer and I loved it there). Great experience at USC.
-Parents and Family looking for Residency: Regarding a family (like Juju Lewis’s parents, for example) who are looking to buy or to rent housing in LA to be near their son during the duration of his college time or even afterwards.
USC should be totally involved and invested in having a chosen team of realtors or rental agents that show these out-of-state family members all the great and diverse areas there are to live in LA. It definitely ain’t all about the immediate neighborhood surrounding the school.
The student athlete certainly should live close to or on campus. Too much going on to be commuting.
But the families don’t have to be right there. On the weekends and long holidays, the student athlete can come home and stay at the family home.
    Show them:
Santa Monica, Brentwood, San Marino, Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, Venice, Hermosa and Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes, Pacific Palisades.
Heck, even show them Malibu, Zuma, Point Dume, Even Orange County like Huntington and Newport Beach.
Show them the cool urban areas to live.
It’s all about what they like.
My point is, if you really want to nail these guys down and get them invested in the USC Trojan family and culture and the true Southern California lifestyle which will bring them ultimate happiness and fame, then don’t drop the ball after you’re done recruiting and have verbal commitments. Keep it going.
Great show and thank you for giving us all the news and insight as it develops.
Thank you for your time reading this long message. Fight on! 👍🤙

"The student athlete certainly should live close to or on campus. Too much going on to be commuting."
All students should live on campus first 2 years. Some college's require students live on the first 2 years.

    Hi Marc
Nice show was normal . I haven’t commented in a while , so I thought I would add my two cents , whatever it is worth lol .
To start, the state of college football is a mess with this free agent like NIL . Recruiting has taken a turn for the worse . Free trips , wine and dine then the bidding war starts . These agents representing these kids is all about the bag for the kids and in turn themselves. In todays state of college football , to be a head coach is a 365 days a year job . So you can now understand why college coaches are looking to the NFL. Same or higher pay with actual time off , not having to work all year .
Regarding this years recruiting, until they actually sign a contract , this is all the big F - fluid - haha .
So in respect to recruiting, to me it will depend on a few things .
    1) Trying to attract kids who appreciate what USC offers including academics and alumni plus the winning tradition.
    2) Players who want to be developed by the best coaches .
    3) The bag unfortunately- USC has to be competitive, that doesn’t mean paying stupid dollars .
    4) Maybe one of the most important things to assure a good class of recruits- winning - just win . I keep saying this - go 9 and 3 or better you will have a good recruitment class .
One final note which deals with the 2024 class . I have looked at the teams roster and they are good enough to do the job . The concern as we know is on the DL and OL . I think the starters are actually good enough it is the number twos who bring up concerns with limited experience.
Anyway Marc great show . Love your work . Sorry for the long comments , but I know you missed me haha

Riley will not get all of those recruits he wants but he will get some of the recruits to verbally commit. We will take those recruits that want to be a Trojan. The rest of them can go play for another team.

Maybe the quantity of recruits at these bashes isn't the way to go, on a another note, that offensive linemen from Carmel Jackson Lloyd I believe, got a prediction from Alabama. Everyone complains about USC not recruiting California, but the fact is the California kids haven't been interested why waste time?

Regarding Silent Commits, what is our obligation to the player? Holding a spot that includes NIL money?
I don’t like it and it should be FLUID.
We absolutely need to secure Griffin especially if Gibson flips.

People have to relax. The recruiting process is different nowadays. Money is involved and these kids have agents or advisors in their ear. A kid could commit but be told by his agent/advisor not to go public until he's seen this school or that school. The commits are coming. Stop stressing out waiting on a 17 year old kid to make a decision

you been saying this for the last 3 yrs. when are u gonna realize that they’re not coming??
the quicker we realize Lincoln is not that guy the quicker we can get out of this hell.
Its been 20 freakin yrs since we been a blue blood program. Since Pete left and the NCAA bent us over with the death penalty we havent been able to be relevant except for a cpl yrs.
And slowly but surely under the Helton era, our local high school pipelines shut down and kids no longer wanted to come. And then Lincoln became head coach and he hardly recruited SoCal and when he did he struck out big to the Oregons, Alabama’s, Notre Dame’s, Ohio St’s and even Oklahomas. ITS PATHETIC.
Only soft ass fans like you continue to make excuses and tell us to patiently wait and then THE SAME RESULTS HAPPEN. WE LOSE OUR LOCAL RECRUITS TO OTHER PROGRAMS.

Lewis will not stay with USC. Auburn offers playing time, more money and closer to home. Winfong had a great update on his Auburn visit. Playing time will be a decisive factor. Moss for two years will cause that kid to not pick SC. It makes better sence for a top 2026 QB recruit than 2025.

MANNNNNNNNNNNN, #$%&# Jalen Ramsey. He flipped out and flipped on us in one of our darkest hours. USC should never come out his mouth. He was also talked out of USC by a parent of one of our incoming db's that year (which I'll leave nameless) just so his scrub son could get some run. I'm glad they are both gone now. FIGHT ON!!!!!
