I love the idea of picking up your journal to write in when you get the urge to scroll on your phone, I need to incorporate this tip into my journaling life! Great video =)
Ive been sideways writing lately too. Not on purpose initially but I have found it to be more comfortable and it helps my handwriting. Good to know I'm not the only one and its a thing. Thanks for sharing your process with us.
Thanks! Just this morning I was at Staples and their student/school section composition notebooks were on sale for $.99. Plus some A5 notebooks were on clearance. Stocked up for some heavy duty journaling! Not too long ago I couldn't even spell journalist, and now I are one! Haha! I agree with you that the physical act of putting pen to paper is a different and more rewarding experience than note taking on a computer or iPad.
I use the Franklin Covey system for journaling also. I have been retired three years, but I still write down what I do during the day. I have adult ADD, so it helps me to keep track of what I get done during the day. My life does not feel like a blur that just passes me by.
I recently bought an ink pad and some of those journal layout stamps from amazon. I just had the idea of stamping my daily habits tracker onto a post-it note and I can easily transfer it from one page to the next. This also frees up space in either my weekly or daily section as its one less box space taken up. Ah, the endless tweaks to perfecting our diary setups eh! 😂
I just opened this video and saw you had 666 likes - I immediately like your video to get you to 667 😊 And the video was fantastic. Loved your content.
Nice info! have tried to journal several times never got farther then few months, This is encouraging, Have now been journaling for almost 6 months and I do see many benefits as you mention Thanks again,
Amazing video! It really helps me to be consistent I mean, it inspired me to write more about almost everything in a day of my life. I started journaling when I was 14 yr old and now I'm 15 I have to be consistent in amount of time. I have my Journal now which happens to be my everyday journal, and I decided to bind my own journal a hand made journal therefore I would be excited to write things down. Btw, Sir, I love your handwriting, seriously I also preferred cursive and honestly you have my style of writing and it's one thing I came here at your channel because I have seen my own writing on RUclips 😁. Thanks sir. God bless you and this channel.
Thanks for this I’ve never journaled, didn’t know how to go about it. Good tip, on the quality of the paper and pens. I look forward to getting started.
Love this video, thank you for sharing! 🙂 I share your love of paper and pen, but I do use a digital system as my master to do list. Long form journaling is 100% paper and pen, I find it very helpful.
Hi dear professor Thank you so much for your help and advice. I really appreciate your job. I wish you peace and happiness under the sky of prosperity. All the best. Have a good time.
I’ve used fancier looking journals too and all different types and sizes. and I’d agree I love the composition notebooks best. I always go back to them and feel most comfortable. They do have so much space. And I love the black and white patterns lol. Enjoyed your video. Sometimes need some inspiration!!
I try to add comments to videos so that it helps the channel I'm watching but I'm encouraging myself to add the reflection to my journal as well for further thoughts. Appreciate yt for suggestioning you. I have subbed for years to Matt Ragland and have the feeling that I'll be here for a long time as well. Be blessed 🌻🍄
I really like your channel, it has got me into journaling and it has really helped me organize my thoughts and schedule. But that is the strangest way I've ever seen a human being write.
I just found your channel and have enjoyed the first video that I watched. What is the brand of the black A5 journal books that you show in this video?Thank you again and I will be checking out more videos on your channel.
Thank you so much for stating you are a sideways writer!! I have been a sideways writer for decades and my teachers used to turn my books and try and get me to write like everyone else 😃😃😃
Clever. I use mechanical pencil on squared paper, easier for diagrams, sketching, drawings between the written text. As 1 picture tells more than 1000 words, taking notes with pictures also saves time & space in the book. I never found a comparable easy and fast digital note taking hardware & software combination. Working as computer engineer specialized in software, able 10 finger typing (~100 characters/minute) since 1984, I was still always faster putting meetings thoughts & notes as free hand notes into college notebooks. A good reason starting directly digital notes is if they are need to be published on (workplace) intranet or public internet reachable for other readers, or if using much already (copy- & pastable) digital text, like from project plan & progress, source code & test code, test data & log file messages.
unfortunately, due to my visual challenges I cannot journal in physical notebooks anymore. (Not without some really good glasses or like LASIK) .. but this was still interesting to watch.
I use the least expensive notebook I can find. Composition Notebooks are under $2 in my area. I also like to find notebooks on clearance at TJ Max and Hobby Lobby. Sometimes I can find them with good paper for under $6. I hope this helps.
Really? Also, what pen / ink are you using? The composition notebook I have right now says "UNISON Division of Fibro Source USA Inc" on the back. Let me know about your pen/ink. Thanks!
The last composition book I used was a Mead. The pen was a uniball vision. Thanks for the vids! Keep up the good work! PS- check out Apica notebooks. They are my absolute favorites.
The daily habit that changed my life was whenever i can I walk 10k steps a day. At 70 years of age its more use to me than writing a journal, which I do anyhow.
I’d love to pen/paper journal. My spelling art lacks. My need for accuracy calls me to lean on spellcheck. Guess I need to address this weakness. Thanks for your inspiration.
Your opening premise of "I'm a 'sideways writer' had initially led me to believe you were a Lefty, which you ultimately refuted in Minute 7:00. Being a Southpaw myself is what "alerted me" to initially perceive you as Lefty. e Well. :-)
Do you still journal? I used to journal. It really helped me work through things. I haven’t journaled in years. I wanted to start again and considered an app because we all carry our phones everywhere. Just doesn’t feel right.
I've refrained journaling... Since I started feeling demotivated and sad (after a devastating Post graduate experience in Europe). Don't know what to do about it.
I think Scott is no longer on RUclips and I have no idea why. No response from his Facebook page either. I hope he's OK. In any case, since he's no longer responding to comments, I will share my two cents. The composition notebooks that are made in Vietnam seem to be fountain pen friendly (which means they should work with other pens too). The CVS drugstore chain in the US carries Caliber notebooks, which are inexpensive and very good. I'm told the Walmart brand is also good, Pen and something. Black and Red notebooks are great (try Office Depot/Office Max) but may not be 99 cents. I've also heard good things about Unisom. When in doubt, look for paper made in Vietnam as a starting point.
Hi Scott, I somehow cannot get your free 7 days schedule from your website. The link seems cickable, bit it is not. Just wondering if it a browser problem
OK, that's tempting. I hate German. I tried to learn how in junior high and despised it. But if it will improve brain activity and productivity? That sounds interesting.
Sorry, watched to the end and still don't understand why all the paper. Journaling electronically seems so much more efficient, particularly task lists. What does hand writing do that typing can't? I am not saying that it couldn't potentially be better, I just didn't get why it might be, after you claimed in the beginning that this is what really changed things for you.
Just a moment: do you really need to have such a sophisticated material for journaling? Isn't the main target to write down thoughts, description and take healthier steps in you life for the better?? Isn't a bic pen and a simple cheap and durable notebook enough??
Pens, paper, space between the lines, inks, books …… I kept having to look at the title of the video! …. But, NOT MUCH ABOUT JOURNALING AT ALL … should change the title to, ‘ Tools I use to Journal’. Misleading, poor content, very blasé in general!…. Sorry ☹️

yes, I agree, this was quite creative.

Post-it note bookmark is ridiculously simple, but an instant addition to the toolbox - thanks!
I love how this guy really is very natural and not like other youtube vids where they always act to much
thank you! you are very inspiring and really pushed me to start a journaling practice
Nice to meet another sideways writer! That's a first for me at 68 years old!

This is the best tutorial I've seen on You Tube for journaling.

Wow, I didn’t realize journaling was so complicated. I have a notebook from the dollar store and I write in it.
Thanks for this I’ve never journaled, didn’t know how to go about it.

I can go through several Pilot G2 pens a year in my journaling

So good to hear that it is helping you. And yes, I do write in a weird way! Thanks for the encouragement!
Actually I write exactly the same. In fact I sometimes turn the page even a bit more than sideways.
You'd be surprised how many people don't have their page straight. And how many people hold their pens in different ways!
I write in a 45 degree angle.
Team TWSBI Eco all the way! My favorite journaling tool :)
Yes! The Eco is a joy to write with! Thanks for your encouragement!

This was really helpful.. I've struggling with consistency
I noticed you are using a wide ruled composition book. If you look, they also sell college ruled composition books, usually for the same price.
Hi. I'm just starting journaling, to get some stuff of my chest. Could you please mention the brands of journals you use. 🎉
I use the least expensive notebook I can find. Composition Notebooks are under $2 in my area. I also like to find notebooks on clearance at TJ Max and Hobby Lobby. Sometimes I can find them with good paper for under $6. I hope this helps.
What brand composition notebooks do you use? Every brand I've tried over the years have major ghosting issues.
Obadiah Hakeswill I’ll see if I can get an Apica notebook. Thanks for the tip!
The daily habit that changed my life was whenever i can I walk 10k steps a day. At 70 years of age its more use to me than writing a journal, which I do anyhow.
What info are you logging daily? Do you log in each of the books? Do you carry all of them with you every where you go?
I’d love to pen/paper journal. My spelling art lacks. My need for accuracy calls me to lean on spellcheck. Guess I need to address this weakness. Thanks for your inspiration.

You mentioned that took notes from a video by Gillian Perkins. Do you also take notes from books you have read?
Do you still journal? I used to journal. It really helped me work through things. I haven’t journaled in years. I wanted to start again and considered an app because we all carry our phones everywhere. Just doesn’t feel right.
How about some paper that would work with fountain pens, regular paper bleeds too much.
What brand is your small yellow flexible notebook?
What are your thought on paper vs digital journals / digital inking?
I've refrained journaling... Since I started feeling demotivated and sad (after a devastating Post graduate experience in Europe). Don't know what to do about it.
What brand comp books do you use? I have a couple, and any pen other than a ballpoint bleeds through badly

Is A5 a brand??
No, it’s a size, 5.8 x 8.3
OK, that's tempting. I hate German. I tried to learn how in junior high and despised it. But if it will improve brain activity and productivity? That sounds interesting.
I write sideways too and my writing looks a lot like yours. Very slanted, spencerian.
So how exactly has journaling changed your life?
So what exactly does journaling do for you never really touched on howardson prove your life?

Why not using the computer, is it better for refreshing the brain? Please expound upon....

Your little blurb about the Bible got me to turn RUclips off and get into the Word... thanks!
This is bad click bait. Saw the thumbnail and thought that you were gonna give some ideas and tips. Instead it was a pen and book commercial.
The part where he speaks about pens was boring.

To write down very quick thougths during the day, when I have no notebook at hand, I have created a whatsappgroup with myself.
