    Graf Spee was tricked into believing that a larger fleet was coming. As they could not stay in the port forever according to laws of war the captain evacuated his crew and scuttled it. The captain of the Graf Spee was no nazi, and his crew was more important to him then his own fate.

    • @jrd33
      @jrd33 4 года назад +1

      This is a popular story but is not correct. Graf Spee was scuttled because it could not be repaired in time to allow it to get back to a friendly port.

      t6 premium cruiser maybe, because of the guns.

    • @ferallion3546
      @ferallion3546 8 лет назад +1

      She's technically an armored cruiser because even though she is of a WWII cruiser displacement with heavy cruiser armor, but she mounts light capital ship weapon systems. It would be cool to see these ships in a tech tree or as premiums like you said.
      Pocket battleship was a political term. If you told the public the Germans have launched cruiser surface raiders that does not get everyone's attention when you include the word "battleship". The term was like the Cold War's "through deck cruisers" which were light carriers but saying the word carrier carried geopolitical ramifications that European and Soviet nations wanted to avoid.
      It's interesting studying the diplomatic language of those eras.

      Feral Lion
      It truly was a most interesting class of ships, designed to defeat any faster ship but outrun any contemporary battlecruiser or batteship, and blessed with a great range thanks to her diesel propulsion.
      It didn't work that well against the improved ships in WW2, however.

    • @neurofiedyamato8763
      @neurofiedyamato8763 8 лет назад +1

      Well pocket battleship is a lot more justified than "cruisers that can launch straight wing aircraft." since it was equipped with battleship/battlecruiser level guns.
      Though yes it is actually essentially an armored cruiser and acted much like one. Raiding and patrolling like a cruiser but engaged much like a battlecruiser; run away against stronger opponent but catch up to weaker ones. The Germans even called it such with the term "armored ship."
      I would have argue against the armor though. I would say cruiser level armor in general. Heavy and light cruiser during the inter-war had similar protection level. Main difference was armament caliber. Armor difference didn't come around until after the treaty expired resulting in better protected cruisers. If you were to compare Deutschland class with Baltimore and the likes, Deutschland's armor stand no chance.

    "Ex-EE-ter"? What's the native language of the narrator? He sounds like a native North American English-speaking person. He has to know that you pronounce it "Ex-ih-ter"...

    • @namelessentity5851
      @namelessentity5851 8 лет назад +3

      He is saying it wrong,but I have never heard anyone from these parts say it so. . . laboured? as he does.He almost sounds like a computer voice when he says the name.

    • @ferallion3546
      @ferallion3546 8 лет назад +4

      Common American English doesn't pronounce it the way he is. Certain cultural, regional, state, or even city dialects might. I think he's using international English to pronounce it so it's generally understood by all English primary dialects (American, Australian, etc). Because the ship originated in Britain that would be the correct origin pronunciation but how other countries pronounce it would not be incorrect as it reflects their own way of speaking.

    Does this american accented narrator just have no fucking clue as to how to pronounce these words?!?! Screwed up Vickers and Exeter so far. vEEkers, and EEkseter, lol. I am an american and know how the annunciation conventions are, and for both accents they are the same in this case. Edit: Uruguayan, not Uruguayanian.

    You need to make an alternative branch for British cruisers which has all 3 heavy cruiser class lead ships. What I mean is for an alternative British cruiser branch with heavy cruisers instead of light cruisers.

    Uhhhh while what u said wasn't exactly false it really wasn't correct either. The Graf spee didn't go to port because of the Leander's, it was because the Exeter damaged the fuel filtration system. Graf spee wasn't scuttled because she was afraid of the light cruisers, she was tricked into thinking that BC renown was waiting for her.
