Hi, being a native Uruguayan, though not contemporary to the battle itself, Im well acquainted with the historical event. The HMS Ajax made many visits after the battle and the ship and its crew were during WW2 very close to our national identity. Its anchor rests in Punta del Este, on our Atlantic Ocean coast. Will enjoy the build of this very special ship- Kind regards from Montevideo.

I think when you're in 700 scale, particularly using words like Flyhawk and Micromaster, some form of optical help is a borderline must; unless you have perfect lighting. About 6-7 months ago I built the 1/700 German aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin for a friend. With all the PE parts and tiny plastic, I thought I would go crosseyed. It was fun though. Looking forward to your build of the HMS Ajax!
Quite definitely Ay Jacks. Aye axe are a Dutch football team. British pronunciation (think of the words of 'The British Grenadiers'). Drachinifel insisted on the incorrect pronunciation........not good for one of his usual quality. Flyhawk are a recent discovery of mine and I'm blown away by their kits, both subjects and quality. At 64 I'm learning a whole new dimension to modelling after decades of aircraft. This looks outstanding!
Steve, you are correct in pronunciation of Ajax, if the ship was not RN and European for example then it would have been pronounced the other way. Great review and looking forward to seeing this built.
Great detail, and the 3D parts are only going make it better. A few years ago I built a 1/700 Saratoga, with PE. I had never used PE before, quite challenging.

I must say, this kit is VERY impressive!! The detail of the plastic is amazing, then you add the bonus PE, just wow!! Then you unbox those 3D printed items!! Needless to say, my mind was blown!! On another note, careful with your pronunciation there (Ajax), you might be accused of murdering the English language like us "colonist" over here Steve!!! 🤣All, kidding aside, eagerly awaiting the next update!!

Optivisor will be wanted. Might want to spring for one with the flip-down additional magnifiers given how fine those d prints are. Do note, a person wants to be careful with an optivisor lest one klonk it into light fixtures, cameras, and the like. Also, it will really mess with depth perception if one stands too quickly. (Often a decent idea to set a timer for 7-10 minutes, to take the visor off and only focus at things clean across the shop, the better to exercise one's optical muscles.

Even at 1/200, I have found my Opti-visor to be indispensable. I can't even imagine building at 1/700. The Micro Master parts are incredible!
I can just manage 1/200 with my work glasses but this is another level so I’ll be investing for sure.
i build at 1/700, you get used to it, but don't do revells 1/1200 scale ships, your eyes will not thank you.
