His opening statements were emotional and relatable, but after that Judge Kavanaugh comes across as uncooperative and defiant. Dodging questions, deflecting, and filibustering answers. I fully appreciate that his reputation, and the emotional stability of his family is being affected by this whole process. But he's given every opportunity by the Dems to clear his name by calling for an FBI investigation, and asking that witnesses be heard, and he keeps saying the FBI investigation is meaningless, and it's up to the committee. Not once does he show he's willing to do anything to clear his name. It just comes across as he's got something to hide.

Matt Damon did a very good portrayal of this man on Saturday Night Live. Kavanaugh is not an appropriate judicial nominee. And, yet, there he is, sitting on the SCOTUS.

  • @llh3025

He said too much and should have just answered the questions. He talked his way right out of the Supreme Court. He falls apart way too easy and gets flustered and angry too easy. He's not fit to be a Justice on the highest court in the land. He also seemed uncomfortable talking about beer and alcohol and said he still likes to drink. For someone versed in the justice system he doesn't know how to handle himself on the stand and should have had legal counsel at his side.
And not to mention the allegations of sexual assault. A sad and cautionary tale.

Kavanaugh kept ducking out of asking for an FBI investigation, he was given multiple opportunities to ask for them to be brought in but he dodged them every single time, he also dodged the question when asked about it on Fox News I would have thought that if the damage to his reputation and to the peace of mind of his family had been as great as he claimed that he would have demanded that the FBI be called in to clear his name-but no, he dodged the question by disingenuously claiming that he would abide by the recommendations of the panel even though he well knew-as do we all-that the very last thing that the Republican judges would ever allow.
I want to be entirely even-handed in this and have no wish for him to be found guilty but I must say that I do think that his responses to this and his combination of aggressive contemptuousness towards the Democrats and unconvincing ( overdone) tearfulness make me believe Dr Blasey Ford over him every single time.

  • @drtaverner
    @drtaverner 6 лет назад +7

Whether or not he is guilty is irrelevant. What's important is his behaviour in the face of these allegations. Rather than acting like a mature adult worthy of sitting impartially on the highest court in the USA, he acts like a four-year-old who has been told he cannot have a new toy. To me that's the really important part. Rather than say that he doesn't remember and that he's sorry for anything he might have done or any pain he has caused, he has a temper tantrum and threatens to use his seat on the SCOTUS to take revenge on those who have supported his accusers. This is not the kind of person who should be a judge of any kind, let alone the SCOTUS.

  • @hsd

If you have nothing to hide why not do everything to prove otherwise? If you know he’s not lying then why not have an investigation? No one is perfect but doing everything instead of an investigation to prove otherwise is common sense he’s lying. My three year old niece acts like this when she lying to not get in trouble. But when he gets the job, and people’s rights start to disappear, then those who back him will be crying foul.

The constant breaking in tears, drinking water and saying the same thing over and over again. I do understand trying to defend himself and feeling emotional about this but As a high ranking judge, you would have thought he could have held more composure and an even tone. Honestly he seemed very scared by the constant use of self praise and work accomplishments deflecting what this hearing was really about but more trying to convince the senate that he's such a great guy. Not trying to be rude but I didn't by into this at all.

We are human. Yes as a professional he is expected to keep himself composed. However; he is being accused of three serious crimes all of which only have testimonies of said victims. This was just sad... this is a hearing on serious charges and yet both sides failed horribly. Kavanaugh had such an emotional outburst that it was embarrassing to watch, not the sort of character I wanted to see in a supreme court nominee. Ford, on the other hand, played nothing but sympathy to the letter. No substantiating evidence whatsoever, just her tale which for all we know could be a fairy tale. This important legal meeting devolved into a simple he said she said and now I've lost respect for both parties involved. Democrats need to watch The Crucible sometime, they could learn a few lessons about how being guilty until proven innocent is the most unamerican garbage in existence. Kavanaugh had 6 FBI investigations already how many more do they want? Even Joe Biden back in 1991 made fun of that. And the magical polygraph test which she answered all of 2 questions to.. They keep having women cry wolf like this than Duke University is going to look like a picnic and no woman will ever be believed on sexual charges again, not a world I want. Kavanaugh and Republicans in general need to learn some manners and respect. I understand he is angry about these accusations but any woman that thinks she has been sexually assaulted, no matter when and where, whether truthfully or not, deserves to be heard. She is an american citizen with just as much value to the country as Kavanaugh in the eyes of the constitution. For some one seeking to be appointed to the highest court in the land he sure lacks the demeanor I'd expect and as a judge he should be ashamed. He should know full and well already that justice requires listening to the accused and the accuser with a calm mind and careful evaluation of the facts and evidence. Seems to me he was so used to judging other people that he is too high and mighty to be judged himself with the attitude he showed; Judge Dredd comes to mind. Sigh, dumbocrats and repugnicans will never change.

To judge him based on this questioning where he was facing smears and attacks on his character is ridiculous. He was rightfully upset and his opening statement and following behavior reflected everything he has gone through. Basing your opinion on the two questionings by how they reacted and their "composure" instead of on facts and by whose story can be corroborated and whose cannot demonstrates that you cannot look at the stories objectively. When livelihoods and immediate futures are at stake, more thought and deliberation should be taken.

Regardless of the accusations, the very foundation of obtaining a Jurist Doctorate, is that law is void of emotion. I was for him until he lost his shit. A judge at the highest court can not have a grudge based on partisan, he ruined it all when he started yelling and throwing veiled threats. A judge is simply a referee between the prosecution and defense. A Supreme Court Judge is to interpret the constitution, not to create laws. That is what congress is for but they no longer do their jobs which is why this fiasco has become so political. We need to do away with this broken two party system so that we vote for people that fight for what the voter is wanting to change, in other words, vote who is like minded on as many SUBJECTS as you are. There may be some that differ, but you choose the person that will fight for as many as they can. NO ONE WILL EVER BE FOR 100%, but that is what compromise is which is why DC has fallen (Along with lobbyist, they need to go!) but we now vote on party lines and/or who has the best commercials. We no longer vote for the person that is MOST like minded. Also, we need term limits across the board. Too much time goes by where politicians begin to "owe" this person or that lobbyist favors. One more thing (Sorry) I understand a fifteen year old keeping sexual assault to themselves. HOWEVER, when you become 18..19...20..23..28... The statue of limitations would still be valid. If this is affecting someone all this time, up to 36 years, why did they not go to the authorities at say, 24, around the time this person obtained her doctorate in PSYCHOLOGY!... Of all people, I would think she would have went to the police back then. Now is not the time. Personally I think it happened, but they were just playing around like teens do and when she started to reject it as no longer teenage play, they got up and left. I think it clearly bothered her more then they assumed. I think she freaked out because she wanted to tell her parents, to see if her fear was valid, but she was more upset for her parents finding out she was there and drinking. That would have scared the shit out of me at 15. Anyway, regardless, he shouldn't be on thr bench, he ruined it. They need to nominate someone new and get it done.

Kavanaugh does not sound credible. Belligerent retorts to answers; Evasive; Distracts attention; Mainly concerned with himself/how it affected his life rather than be empathetic or compassionate, or remorseful on how this event has impacted Dr. Ford and her life and family. He had a much longer, angrier and even louder opening statement as to overpower and shut down voices of Dr. Ford and any opponents. Kavanuagh had a really Well-rehearse inauthentic opening statement. He tries to rile up the audience so that we would also be as blinded by rage and disgust as he is, in order to further evade questions, filibuster senators and openly disrespects a senator when she talking about her father who struggled with Alcoholism. Does he really think that his performance at this hearing would silence all of his critics? If his reputation is truly important to him and if he truly didn't do it, then a polygraph test and an FBI investigation would only help him to prove his innocence, Right?

and even said he does not question on wether ford got raped.
He used examples of how he has been affected by sexual assult as his close friend was and used him for emotional healing,
he raised his daughter to pray for the woman who MAY be hurting and destroying their family...
Such actions were in NO WAY recipcated by ford's testimony.
2nd, the problem with an FBI investigation is the democrats could have asked for it A long time ago in where it wouldn't mess up with the hearings, but they chose to hold it until they could delay it until after midterms HOPING by then they'd have a majoriy senate and then basically block the seat until they hopefully win the 2020, then nominate a democratic judge.

But... what does this mean for anyone accused of sexual assault? What level of evidence should there be in order for a person's life to be changed? I dont know and can't make that call myself consistently and without so much bias but THIS will likely set precedence for how these events may be handled... this is tough.
