Dude ive come back to this video so many times, its really helped me learn this song. Thank you for the angle you recorded this at, I've been trying to figure out how to alternate pick the chorus riff and I can finally play it at speed after watching this in slow motion. Turns out I had it backwards playing a down stroke on the 5th string and an up stroke on the 6th, it sounded like the main riff in cold by At the Gates cuz of all the incidentals.
I'm happy that it helped you, i made this videos for that.
I think that the good way to play a cover is your own way, impossible to know exactly how the artist did it, the goal is reached when you take pleasure playing stuff. That's what i did for my Death's covers, because i didn't found any good tabs around, and that's why sometimes they dont sound perfect.

It seems like the original solo is slightly more high-pitched. Any idea how did they do it?
It seems that the original pinch harmonic notes are different from the ones played in the cover. But it sounds still good because both (original and cover notes) belog to the same scale. But I'm just guessing. This can happen because of the technique used by the guitar player. Maybe Chuck played the solo in a different positon (a different string for example), and all these changes will definitelly affect.
Pickups and amp are also a factor. Chuck's guitar had a very bright pickup, and the amp he used was kinda scooped too.
