So much fun to harvest! I don’t have much space but even if I just get a couple of cucumbers and tomatoes for lunch, I’m happy. Thanks for all your guidance and inspiration.
I planted your red burgundy, and slenderette bush bean seeds in my Cali Kim three foot grow bag, and every single one germinated! They are now about 4 inches tall and I can’t wait until they are ready to pick! Thanks so much!!!
Camera guy took the words right out of my mouth that is a revolutionary idea of covering the tomatoes with a 1 gallon smart pot OMG Kim you are so genius I have missed these videos I’m back in my garden I took a year off but you definitely got me motivated to get out there every day keep up the great work friend
I'm harvesting basil, cucumbers, peppers, lots of tomatoes (cucumber salad), eggplant, Blue Lake pole beans, Cantare bush beans, and bunching onions. I'm in the process of replacing my determinant beefsteak tomato plants with Roma tomatoes and Dad's Sunset Tomatoes. I have five cucumber plants that have sprouted and have t heir first true leaves. Newly sprouted are New Kuroda carrots, Danvers, Purple Dragon carrots, Kyoto Red carrots, Uzbek Yellow carrots, Navone Gold rutabagas, Purple Top rutabagas, and Purple top turnips. I'm doing a mix of canning, dehydrating, and freezing. Tomorrow, I will be checking my Danvers to see if they are ready to harvest, and I'll be harvesting red potatoes in about ten day, and planting another batch.
I can't wait to have lemon cucumbers ready to harvest! I love to make a fresh summer salad with lemon cucumbers, tomatoes and chives with a bit of olive oil and white wine vinegar. Delish :)
Hello Roberta - oh that sounds amazing, one of my fav summer salads too. I like to slice up some fresh mozzarella on the side and pick some fresh basil to go with it. Enjoy your harvests - the best!
Okay, you really need to find a place in your garden for a couple Chicken’s. They would thrive on all your extra veggies and ones bugs or mice get to. Plus they eat all the leaves and such that we would otherwise compost. Then your garden feeds you back in more ways, egg’s and compost from the Chicken’s yard! My bad bug population is so much lower since I got Chicken’s. For example, no more ear wigs in the Apple’s!! Your harvest is amazing!! Tonight I made a potato & beef casserole. Ingredients from the garden: potatoes, onions, garlic, kale, thyme, oregano, peas, yellow squash, & snap peas. My 1st tomato of the year is almost ripe! It’s a Peron Sprayless. Delicious!
So cool. I also planted the white eggplant and lemon shape cucumbers. They are not ready yet. Can't wait to try the. I harvested my first early girl II tomatoe today. It was great. So much better than buying in a store!
I'm from Ottawa, ON, Canada. Right now even though it is starting to really warm up, I have alot of peas, kale and violets. My beans are just starting to produce. Can't wait for my tomatoes and cucs!!
Absolutely beautiful love your harvest. I’m having a hard time with my vegetables we’ve been averaging 112 to 114 degree weather. I’ve covered them as you suggested and I’m watering every day. Still they look a bit stressed.
Same! I actually put double shade cloth because they were stressed. It worked. Also putting them next to a wall where they are completely protected from the afternoon sun
I'm in Texas and the temperatures are brutally hot! Used shade cloth, but my plants simply stopped producing due to the high heat. Even my grass is dormant. For now I'm growing seeds indoor using grow lights to be ready for the second summer planting.
Hello Fernando - glad you enjoyed the harvest. Wow, that's hot! Shade cloth keeps it 10-15 degrees cooler underneath, so even with covering them, they may struggle until temps cool off. Make sure your shade cloth is a 60-70% block and plant heat tolerant greens - kale, chard, New Zealand spinach . Arkansas Traveller, Solar Flare, Homestead are a few heat tolerant tomatoes that have worked well for me here in So Cal. Start cool weather veggies seeds indoors now, so you'll have transplants to plant outside in about 6 weeks when the weather cools off. (14 varieties in my Fall Garden Seed Collection). Stay cool and good luck! 🍅20% off site wide with code “latesummer” at calikimgardenandhome.com. FREE Cucumber seeds with purchase. We have roots from Sonora where they use spicy Anaheim peppers for Chili Rellenos Var; Numex Big Jim instead of Poblano peppers. I grow 12 plants a year of them. They are also great skinned, chopped and added to Pico De Gallo
Awesome harvest! Tried growing squash three years ago but with no luck. I must have been doing something wrong cause the fruits all had blossom end rots. Don’t have the space so i planted them in containers. 😟. Love those eggplants. Tried growing Japanese eggplants one Year and it was a success. This Year, I am growing tomatoes, cukes, strawberries, peppers, carrots and your favorite sugar baby watermelons. I hope I get some watermelons and I want this badly to be a success. My blueberries have a lot of berries and I hope I get to taste some ripe ones before the robins get them. Your garden truly is a success! Just love to see the abundant harvest!
Great video. I am feeling a little jealous. Lol. there are so many things growing in your garden. It is indeed rewarding to be able to go outside and pick things to cook with from your garden.
I'd be getting right to work making a ton of salsa with all those cherry tomatoes, jalapenos (There were jalapenos among all those peppers, weren't there?) All you need is cilantro, vinegar or lime juice, a little good olive oil, a red onion, some garlic (from your garlic harvest) and some cumin and S and P. Then sprinkle taco seasoning ( I make my own) on the squash, cooked on the grill, or sauteed with onion in a pan in the kitchen and put both the squash and the salsa and some pieces of avocado in some flour tortillas for tacos! Yum!!
I was only able to do small harvests every now and then with lettuce, jalapeños, some cherry tomatoes, a little bit of blueberries, zucchini and just started to pick some cucumbers we sadly didn’t get to the strawberries in time we only picked a few then I think the birds and other critters got to them ended up harvesting more cherry tomatoes sweet banana peppers and zucchini have you ever made cowboy candy/ candied jalapenos its really good
Wow what an amazing harvest Kim! Love it! I grow in containers on my balcony and can’t wait till the day I can have a huge garden like yours 😍 I just harvested a few cucumbers from my garden along with some strawberries too! Can’t wait for my peppers to be ready as well ☺️🌱
Hello Mindful - growing your own fruits and veggies is so rewarding and the taste is out of this world! So glad you're loving your garden too! Thanks for joining us for the tour!
What a huge harvest! Lots of veggies, lots of variety! So impressive!! Those pattypans are huge! I haven't grown pattypan yet, but I hope to do so next season. I really, really enjoyed this video. So well done, thank both of you! You make a great team! Good health and happiness to you and yours! 🤗 for sweet Mac
Finally getting a ton of tomatoes this year after last years fiasco when blight wiped them out. Eggplants are coming on and had to shade the peppers due to the hot sun.
Awesome harvest, hope your having a dinner party. I never tasted lemon cucumber. First year for me to grow mad hatter peppers. Also trying some sugar baby watermelon. Have about 4 softball size plus some small one's coming.
Yes, lemon cucumbers would be an excellent choice to slice and put into your water. They are small, round cucumbers with a bright yellow color and a mild, slightly sweet flavor. Try it and see how YOU like it!! CK
Hi CaliKim, Any tips on dealing with racoons? I tried a greenhouse but it didn't let my plants pollinate... If I leave the greenhouse open the raccoons get to it. I did put up chicken wire and motion lights but they don't seem to be working.
Everything is growing really well here this year EXCEPT the eggplant. Its been getting absolutely destroyed by flea beetles and colorado potato beetles. I dont think theres any going back. Even the insect dusts weren't enough to kill them off. On a better note, I have picked 2 dozen cucumbers in the last week
Tomatoes can’t for golden Jubilee Tomatoes and tiny Tim tomatoes a lot cucumbers and squash zucchini watermelon 🍉 get flowers Kim ty for the video I enjoyed Shelly
Hello Farrah - here in So California, the winter is a good time to grow cool weather veggies and herbs - lettuce, radishes, peas, carrots, broccoli, parsley, cilantro to name a few. (14 varieties in my Fall Garden Seed Collection). Now is a good time in most climates to start cool weather veggies indoors for a fall garden (too hot for them outside right now). This way, you have transplants ready to move out to the garden in about 6 weeks as the weather cools off. Many of these veggies will take a light frost, so it makes them perfect for fall/early winter harvests too. Thanks for stopping by for the tour! 🍅20% off site wide with code “latesummer” at calikimgardenandhome.com. FREE Cucumber seeds with purchase. Hello Laura, I don't recommend using anything plastic, as it will heat up in the sun and basically cook your tomato. Whatever you use needs to be breathable. Thanks for stopping by!
How do you grow blackberries? Did you do it from a seed? I harvested some Cilantro yesterday. Skunks keep digging up my pepper plants. Any suggestions?
I planted these from bare root bushes from the garden center several years ago. You can also grow them from cuttings if you know someone with blackberry bushes. Repels-All granules or spray works well for me to keep critters away. It's available at many garden centers, Amazon, and also find where to purchase it at bonide, com. Good luck with those skunks!
Yes they do. They like the ripe passion fruit and to be in the coolness of the moist leaves...try hanging tobacco leaves among the passion fruit leaves, especially during harvesting time. Snakes do not like the smell of tobacco. You can also spray the garden using dimethoate or malathion. Keep us posted!
I personally don't, but I suppose you could. If I do cook greens, I usually saute greens such as kale, chard, mustard greens, bok choi, tatsoi ect for omelettes or stir frys. Thanks for watching!
