Bought a Samsung smart 60' 1080p 13 years ago for $2100. Sounds like alot I know, but that was aboit the going price for one at the time. It ran day and night for a family of 5 all these years, and was finally replaced last month with a smart 4K. It still runs and the picture's shockingly good, even compared to today's low-end 4Ks. Got my money's worth out of it.

I pick my flat screen TVs out of the trash. As folks buy the latest bigger screen TV they toss their existing TV. Only downsides (besides smaller screen size) are no remote and no manual. Cheap dedicated remotes can be bought online and manuals are also online. I have two 32-inchers and a couple 24-inchers plus a couple tube TVs; and by the empty TV boxes out on trash day I can anticipate my next haul. I know; I have no shame. And my wife hates me.

My family has a 2018 LG TV that we bought brand new in 2018,it was on a massive sale from 500€ to 300€,it is a 43" one and it's 1080p,and tbh it looks very good, the colors are amazing and the speakers are really good imo,for my own room I bought a cheap 32" 720p TV,which is enough for me tbh,I'm also getting a Fire TV Stick soon,so it will make the experience better

Not a smart TV but I have a 32" 720p Panasonic TV with an IPS LCD panel in my bedroom that is now at least 20 years old and is still going strong. With the right video settings it's as good as a much newer 32" Samsung 1080p TV in another bedroom. I'm amazed that, not only has it lasted this long, but it still puts out a high quality picture so until it finally goes toes up, if ever, it's not going anywhere.

Problem is, the Backlighting goes out in about 1 to 3yrs if your lucky.
At that price though? It's worth getting it & throwing it away & buying another.
It has a beautiful display & the loudest & most crisp audio I've ever heard on a TV! No soundbar needed but I added 1 just blow everyone out of the living room!
I'm kinda leaning towards the U8H or the Samsung Curved TU-8300 55" now 😊

I had a Coby Brand TV that lasted 5 years. It was on 8 hours per day, for the last two years of its life. I did not purchase this TV, but acquire it from a relative for free. Cheap TVs can last 3-5 years. If, they are on about 8 hours per day. And set at normal brightness, screen cleaning, and given proper ventilation. Preventing overheating. If you buy 2 cheap TVs, you can spend less than one quality TV. And get as many, or more years of service out of them.

    • @patrickhenry2845

@jdslyman That's interesting. I had an instant on, Solid State, Sony Trininton TV, from the late 1970s, CRT. And it lasted 12 years before the picture tube died. I would have bought a replacement picture tube. But, it was not cost effective. I bought another Sony CRT. But, I got rid of it before it died. Most CRT TVs of the past lasted at least 7-10 years. Even being on 8 hours per day, seven days per week. I now have 3 flat-screen Samsung TVs. All of them 1080p resolution. The oldest one is now going on 7 years old. Still a very good picture on all of them. You did well, having bought a flat-screen TV in 2007. That's going on 16 years of service.

This video failed to mention cheap current smart tvs as their able to send updates to the tv after 1 year warranty expires that makes the tv a big ass paper weight. Why? They can only make profit from these “cheap” tvs if they sell a lot of them and they can’t do that if you’re not buying 1 every 2 years cuz hey 2 of these is still cheaper then that $1300 tv

I have an old 720p TV with an analog tuner. I use it with another old laptop connected with HDMI to watch whatever I can have on the internet, that includes Netflix. I might use a set top box, but I really don't care since I watch TV infrequently and most of them are also available online. The TV is Toshiba Regza, but its colors are absolutely amazing! A friend got it for me from friends who wanted to put it in the trash.

The comment on brightness you made didn't take into account the very real possibility that a manufacturer overdrives the LEDs to market the TV as really bright (eg 350 nits). So *_just_* because it's bright isn't necesssarily a high value factor when considering a purchase.
Overdriving the LEDs can make the images brighter...for awhile. LEDs DO degrade due to temperature and time used. I've also seen a LOT of people reporting their TV's LED backpanel fails in about 1 year; some brands worse than others. Either the LEDs themselves fail (which can take out an entire row or column of LEDs or driver elements (the electronics that actually controls the power to the LEDs), or even odd areas where unique array design is implemented. It depends on LED array and driver design). In addition, the LED power unit can fail because it has been overstressed by providing too much power to the LED array for too long a period of time. You can look at TV LED repair videos for more information.

    • @ObakuZenCenter
      @ObakuZenCenter 6 месяцев назад

350 nits isn't bright by the way. It's about average for a monitor but now is sub par for a TV.

My Q70R went bonkers after the warranty as well, the reboot issue due to hardware issues... Even if i fix it, it's on the clock. It looks like going cheap is better, because if it prematurely dies on you, at least you don't feel that ripped off.

  • @danielparrish5438

they keep pushing how great the picture is but they may fail to tell you that the "over the air" tuner really sucks ....... if you are cutting the cable and plan to use an antenna tp pick up local channels then a tv with a strong tuner is a must if you don't want to pay for a high cable bill each month ....... TVs with strong tuners include Samsung and LG while several other popular brands like TLC and Hisense and tested poorly ....... at the bottom of the list for weak tuners are RCA and Philips ...... generally speaking the cheaper the cost of the TV is the better chance it has a weak tuner because they didn't want to spend the extra money on something you might not use

Went to best buy explained to salesman I hated the blooming... and I said I want a tv where you get very deep blacks it looks like the tv is off. He got me to get a Oled. I opt into a LG BX Oled. And omg. It blows that shitty tv out of the water... faster interface... no wifi issues. Very deep blacks which I wanted... Dolby vision.. which I wanted as well.
