Great sounding group. Why are thr saxes in the back?
So the loud ass brass doesn’t bleed into their mics.
Its to do with recording - if the saxes were at the front (where they normally would sit) the brass would bleed into their microphones like crazy. By having the saxes at the back...much of that bleed is avoided. That's my basic understanding at least :)
