Hi!! I've been a long time viewer of the art prof channel and have submitted a few of my pieces for critiques a couple times over the last year or so, and in my artist's statement I have always mentioned that it has been my dream for so long to attend art school, in particular, the University of the Arts London: Central St Martins, which is notorious for being a very rigorous and time-consuming course with a very low acceptance rate. I knew I definitely needed as much help as I could to get into my dream school. Unfortunately, the high school I go to has an extremely inadequate art department so I have definitely looked at this channel as one of my main sources of advice and guidance in the art school applications process. It is with so much happiness and gratitude that I am able to say that I got into my dream school to study my dream course (Fine Art) !! And I 100% know that I couldn't have gotten into UAL if it weren't for all the incredible help and criticism I got from this channel (no matter how much it hurt my feelings at the time lol). Watching the art school portfolio critiques and the personal piece critiques really influenced what pieces I chose to complete and send off to apply, and also what direction I should start looking toward in the future, in terms of my art. I am so genuinely thankful for all the much-needed criticism that often people were too afraid to give me in real life. After all this pandemic mess is over I'm so excited to take the next steps in my art career as a student at UAL! Thank you so much! :)
OMG CONGRATULATIONS SARA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is so amazing, we are SO PROUD OF YOU here at Art Prof!!!!!!! ❤Hope you will keep in touch with us ❤ -Prof Lieu
This year I tryed to enter to the best highschool from my town, I send all what I asked off. The results , if I am admited , are on 12 th June. Wish me luck!!
as a former art teacher and higher ed administrator.... NO!!! DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR YOUR LIFE ON ART SCHOOL!! take classes at your community college (which have great teachers) internship or become an apprentice. Higher ed is a con, they don't "educate" anymore. Life is a better education.
I agree. I went to an excellent community college for art and it was great. For a long time I felt bad about not being able to go to an art university. But, over time, I realized that if I HAD gone, it would have been a huge waste of time and money, and probably would have turned me off of art.
This stream was very helpful. I just got out of a community college with my associates in art and im looking to transfer somewhere else. I have been looking at art schools and other Universitys and after this video im leaning more towards going to an art school now. I already kinda eat sleep breath art its all I do all day everyday which kinda tells me I would probably be fine at a art school. I was originally planning to go to my local university this fall but after stalking the whole art department and students who graduated from there I realized it wasnt for me. Most of the teachers at this school werent that accomplished and the work of the students leaving the school wasnt at the level I was hoping. Now im taking a gap year and making a portfolio to apply somewhere else :D
I went to a magnet arts high school where I did 4 hours of intensive studio art a day. I'm really glad I then went to a liberal arts university with a very strong art department. That way I got to take really great art classes for my major but I also got to pursue other interests like creative writing (my minor) dance and art history. I also was very involved in my university's LGBTQ community and did a lot of activism. I made a few good artist friends and made friends with all sorts of majors. This diversified and expanded my worldview which absolutely fed my studio practice. 2 years later I got my MFA at Pratt which was an intensive studio program. It was an amazing experience but I wish they had given us some practical professional development.
I think all art schools should be more involved when it comes to professional development! It can be great to learn about creating artwork, but you can feel so lost afterwards when you're forced into the professional world - Mia Rozear, Art Prof Staff
I've just finished my BA but I still don't know that artists have to sign a contract. I hope you will release more video about how to earn a living as an artist.

I want to teach art/art history at the high school level and possibly higher education. I don’t know if I should go for a BFA or one in art history. Or if I major and minor which one would be best for what I want. Really sad I missed this live. You guys have awesome videos.
The degrees for studio art and art history are totally different. I think it's rare to find a high school that offers art history, so you would probably have to get certified to teach history a the high school level. For higher ed you would need a PhD in art history. -Prof Lieu
Larry due to the quarantine I’ve bought hundreds of dollars worth of art items and crafts that my high school art teacher thinks that I should go to art school. Keep in mind that I only wanted to draw portraits as a hobby while studying as an engineer. Is it possible to be able to balance these responsibilities during college? Sorry for the long comment.
Hi! It depends on how involved you want to get with the art stuff; if you want a truly deep dive art school will give you that, but that doesn't mean you can't do something substantial while studying engineering. It's just that compared to art school it would be less just because you won't log as many hours. -Prof Lieu
Art Prof: Create & Critique Thanks for the reply. I guess the only way to be able to be decent at art is to only focus on portrait drawing for the time being during college and maybe other techniques once I get out college.

Art Prof is my art school during and after this pandemic.
I've been asking myself this question a lot recently, so this video came right on time. Thanks.
