I actually find this song to be truly beautiful, putting aside the comedic aspect to it. It really conveys the yearning that The Mayor feels, and how he must use someone else’s situation to channel his feelings in fear of his own persecution. The “bells won’t be ringing” and “no angels singing” lines are particularly powerful to me. Unironically, it really resonates with me (I am queer too, so that helps).
I agree that it is a totally beautiful song. I also think it's a strong piece in terms of conveying the Mayor's character. Yes, the queer aspect, and his longing to follow his heart, but also his kindness for others and that he does wish them well, even the people who have something he's not allowed to /not allowing himself to have. He's a truly good person.
This was such a lovely version of Somewhere Love Is Waiting For You by Alan Cumming. He is so very talented. I love his singing voice and I adore him so much. Alan is a mega superstar and I just adore him and love him. The way Alan held the note at the end of the song gave me Mack & Mabel vibes and that sent a shiver down my spine and gave me goosebumps at the same time. I know this actor but not by a name he starred as floop in spy kids 1 and 2 I don't think he was in all the spy kids movies. As my memory serves me correctly he was only in spy kids one and two. I love this actor so much you coming he's Goofy and funny and such a wonderful man. He would definitely make a wonderful husband to a lucky girl. And a wonderful father to a lucky boy and girl this actor is such a magical actor. He's like the male male version of Mary Poppins
