  • The Japan Staff Band (Hajime Suzuki) were one of eight Salvation Army Staff Bands to visit England for the International Staff Band's 120 year celebrations. Prior to these celebrations Japan was subjected to earthquakes and associated tsunamis which caused widespread and severe destruction. This nearly caused Bandmaster Suzuki to cancel the visit as it was almost impossible to bring the band together for rehearsals but fortunately his perseverance saw them attend and their impact, particularly in the afternoon concert in the Royal Albert Hall, was sensational and very emotional as you will see in the video.

I have watched this video many times and it still brings a tear to my eye each time I watch it having been in the Royal Albert Hall on the day to witness it. The standing ovation went on way longer than is shown in this video and how Bandmaster Hajime and the band composed themselves enough to play amazes me.

I was so fortunate to be at that concert, it was unforgettable, they deserved the long standing ovation, a credit to the Lord and their country. It's true we were all deeply moved by their contribution. I am so glad to share it all again. God Bless them all as they serve the Lord in our great Sally Army.

I went and visited Hajime Suzuki the retired JSB Bandmaster back in June and we reminisced about the 2011 JSB tour to ISB120. I also visited Hajime's home Corps of Kiyose and spent some time with their Corps Sargent Major who played baritone at ISB120.

Learning from the total strenght of Japan Territory, I realize that being few in numbers is'nt a sign of weakness. It took only 300 men to ensure God's victory through his servant Gideon in a battle against the Cananites. Leonidas faced the bulk of the Persian Army with just 300 men, and though they were slaughtered the Persians tremble before those 300 Warriors. Victory is imminent so long as the Lord God is on our side.
