    Good morning from the Mohawk Valley!!! (New York State) Loved the video! Must be such an awesome feeling to not only see the wood go but to also sell a chunck of the cookies. I've been watching since video #1 and I have to say, congrats on #500!!!! The wood yard is growing, your skills with the tractor are improving and sales keep coming in. Hard work DOES pay off, you Sir are living proof of that. Keep up the awesome videos!!

    Congrats on 500 videos! That is a lot of work to produce 500 quality videos. It's a lot of work to produce the amount of firewood you do to build inventory and watch it all disappear so quickly. However, it sure feels good to rescue all those Benjamins from a tragic fate at the shopping mall. They feel so much better in the woodyard! 😎 CYN & GNI

    I missed this one when you posted it. I love watching you work your ass off chucking wood. How much wood could a woodchris chuck when a woodchris has to deliver wood? One of my brothers kids is a firewood guy in Dutchess County New York. I see how much work he does in his so called part time job. Jesus you work hard, brother.

    Congrats on video #500! Wind storm then rain here in Oregon. Lost telework connectivity company wide. Watching cookie sales beats waiting around for work connectivity to come back. I bet after this wind and rain storm, some Craigslist ads pop up due to trees down.

      I sold firewood in the 1980's as a hobby with no woodyard. On one of my days off, I would cut/split a full cord of firewood and stack on my truck with racks. And then the next day, sit on a street corner in town with a for sale sign for $90 with the back of the truck toward the street. I worked swing shift back then. Longest I waited to sell was about 4 hours. Many times, just minutes. I sold 32 full cords this way. I got a day job, so firewood sales ceased. I have always heated with a woodstove, and cut a couple cords a year, give or take, all free. The Aumsville tornado in 2011 provided lots of firewood, a friend logged a few acres from his property in 2012, and got what he could not sell to the mill, so I had about 12 cords stacked. 3 cords at my house, and about 9 cords at my sisters property. I didn't need to cut again until 2018. This year, the ice storm in February provided lots. I can still get a bunch of that from 2 different friends properties. But, I am out of room at home, until I burn more. I just made room for 2 pallets of wood, so will get some when it stops raining in Oregon ha ha. I have 3 years personal use firewood right now. I also made room on the other side of my house for 4 pallets. But that I would need to wheelbarrow over, so not sure I will do that. But I am interested in doing firewood bundles. I hope to retire in a few years, so would like to get back into selling firewood. I do love running my 30 year old Husqvarna 61. I have my eye on a wood splitter, the Harbor Freight one, as I am not a young chicken anymore. Splitting 4 full cords by hand this past spring from the ice storm, my back is not able to handle too much at a time anymore. I want to do firewood mainly for exercise and also for a few of the Benjamin family for fishing tackle.

    I always start my burning season burning cookies, I have approx a face cord of them every year, all I do is take a pallet, about a 10ft length of 72" metal fencing, use bailing wire to make a cylinder then heave all my cookies into the cylinder, they dry staggered and pretty quick, def like doing it this way and the cookies burn real nice, I can stack them tight in my stove (sometimes I think I get more wood volume in the stove in cookie pieces rather then my traditional 18" splits lol) but it work, works good and is easy, plus I'm not wasting my hard work either which is a win.

    • @philgriswold2133
      @philgriswold2133 2 года назад +1

      I do the same thing here. I also stack the odd pieces that don't stack well up on the top, so they are the first wood I take off to burn. Like you, I hate not using every piece of wood.

    Shop your local concrete delivery places and see if they make those big retainer wall blocks (ones here are 3'x3'x4' and have a keyway in the top/bottom for stacking). Make a 3 sided bin to dump your cookies in, and then you can simply scoop them up with bucket instead of hand loading. Now you have a tractor, use it !

    Other guys that do firewood on RUclips are showing yard setup. I watched a lot of your vids. But...
    1. How are you keeping the grass manged in between piles.
    2. The free skids I get have big spaces. They suck to walk on. You buy skids?
    3. When I screws my upright skids on... As a marker between cords... How do you get them back apart so easy?
    4. I seem to have to rake every year and have a mound of bark and bits. You burn it?
    5. You sharpen chains. But I've had to fix my old bar. Made it even with a belt sander. Parallel. So my bar goes down instead of sideways. You must spend a fortune on bars. Redress?
    6. I bought the kynco gloves. Both pig and goat. No further review?
    7. I wear a smart watch. I get 10 to 20k steps a day. People who watch have no idea how active and how many calories you must eat. No calorie counter?
    8. I wear crappy boots. Wore out gloves a pair a week last year. Damn boots won't wear out. But when they do I need a boot suggestions.
    9. I have more but this shouldn't be email length. Your work ethic seems awesome.

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  2 года назад

      I do not have the time to answer all of your questions so I will say this, watch more of my videos, most of your questions will be answered. 9. I like to work 8 .KEEN boots 7. No counter needed, I walk all the steps and eat what I want. 6.Kinkos are my favorites, all gloves wear out eventually. 5.No, I get a couple new bars a year. 4. I rake a lot and I am filling in some low spots in my woods for now. 3. I do not screw, I nail. 2. No, I get mine free 1. I mow it or spray it with round up.

    Here's a challenge for ya. Count how many sticks you get in a cord! lol. Ok maybe a face cord x3. That would be interesting.
    Then, you could have an accurate estimate on what you make per cord vs what you'd make if you did go to bundles. Or, possibly hire a "bundle kid."

    • @InTheWoodyard

  • @edsmith4414
    @edsmith4414 2 года назад +1

    Ah.....see, had you bought FORKS instead of (or in addition too) that grapple, moving pallets would simply be a matter of stacking them on top each other and move with the tractor. Need to move them again ? Already stacked.....simply pick up with the forks and move. I've been moving logs, lumber, slabwood, and all manner of things on pallets for 30 years and have yet to see the need for a grapple.
