I wanted to comment on what Dunk is talking about at approx. 3:06:00 about having lifetime set to -1 meaning infinite. I've been developing a game engine for awhile and I actually did this exact same thing for entities that should never expire. If it's -1, it's infinite. Anything above -1 acts as a timer, so 30 would expire after 30 frames. He's exactly right in his prediction, most likely.
Just came across your channel, watched your frist youtube full noita run. Now im watching all of your full runs. I play a drinking game were when you find a new wand I drink. Thanks, enjoying the gameplay!
Please post more Vods, Dunk, i love the long videos. I always get excited to see a new vid from you. Also if you wanted another run idea, would you ever do a 0 kills pacificist run? I would love to see how you would approach that challenge. I've learned a lot from you and you taught me enough to get to my first victories and I am at 10 wins under 100 hours, I doubt i would have without your guidance.

Had my first win today after 30 hours of play ! (thanks to a cool seed I replayed few times with some good perks and cool wand, and thanks to your videos bro)
1:21:10 i had a god run with an always cast meteor wand with .03 .07 delay and charge (also found an always cast giga black hole) checked every zone completely, checked the entire fungal biome, and didnt find a single way to dig through brick/dense rock. Meteor does dig those eventually but it creates so much sand you can trap yourself if you arent careful. Finally after clearing the ENTIRE powerplant i managed to find a wand with a single luminous drill literally on the bottom floor then proceeded to kill myself at 4500 HP insantly with my healing wand after moving the refresh and forgetting 2 minutes later.
I swear every time I even just watch a bit of any of your videos I learn something new. This time it was that the Cast Delay from add Mana (or anything for that matter) isnt effected if its a part of the stack. So sick. Thanks for being my Noita Daddy
Not picking up the health restore in holy mountains first can be scary though, I once got surprised by a random tele-mage who instantly sent me on a teleportation nightmare to the zone below. BTW about the Cauldron - There are no unFinnished quests in Noita, all quests are Finnish =P
This wisp concept has truly infected me. Now I’m working on a wisp that turns everything it touches to gold. With enough projectile repulsion fields and projectile slow fields stacked + projectile gravity spell as the wisp (not infinite, but lasts real long time), should be able to create a neat ass Midas Wisp.
1:30:00 -ish From what I understand was that the devs basically said not to worry about the cauldron for now. My theory is that there is a solution to it but it’s also unfinished, so maybe they don’t want anyone to figure it out and see something half finished while hoping that they do get a chance to eventually finish it or that the cauldron gives a hint to something that hasn’t been added
Dunk says the he wanted it to be shorter for the yourube folks but I say it's a great watch either way and more time to watch is more time to watch. Keep it up Dunk!
On the subject of the devs playing the game at around 3:10, it's also important to note that not everyone plays super optimal. Some people just have fun with the jank and making weird and interesting wands.
Been playing/watching Noita just recently. Love it, Its a great game to just spend like 15 mins in and pick it up later no problem. Something I noticed, is that the new players don't have great spells or wands, until you get deeper, so starting off people should be "speed running" past everything and just pick up free wands and perks.
Good stuff man. I had such a good daily run going yesterday, good wand and vampirism. Then I found out the that giga black hole is different than regular black hole (static and gravitational and dangerous) in the mountain after the jungle. Really made it a true Nethack YASD (yet another stupid death).
@@menacingarc2297 Basically, people call the Wand Conessiur Squidward referencing its appearance and untranslated name starting with S. Basically, if you cover yourself in invisiblium before going into his lair, you can just steal the orb and leave without fighting him.
I don't think anyone brought this up(I might have missed it), but -1 is a very common "magic number" (how appropriate), especially in optional timeouts, in programming to indicate disabling the thing it would be configuring. In this case that would be the time duration (likely set up in the background as a timer that ticks on frame update). So yeah, if you were to set up something with infinite time, you could either create a new function that does the same thing without a timer attached, or you could have a value that isn't useful for the timer (like -1, which isn't a duration possible) that disables the timeout logic. Zero wouldn't work, because that is the frame of the time out, and thus would prompt an immediate ending of the thing in question. Locking it to -1 makes it rare for it to happen by accident (which could happen with bugs). So yeah, this is an abuse of a common practice in programming. Now, I think this is an interesting idea in world because it implies a very unstable and precise balance being needed to make these wisps. You can't just brute force your way into them not knowing what they are (by, e.g., trying to overflow the timer with increase/decrease durations), you need to know what you're doing (or get lucky, as most people do when they see that text for the first time).
could be out of habit from the tutorial videos/livestream gameplay style, since dragging spells makes it easier for viewers to follow what he's doing with the spells. Or, he was too busy thinking about stuff to think of doing it.
I think it's because Damage Plus allowed it harm yourself, so if he had used it to heal himself (thanks to Wand Experimenter) he might hurt himself. Or they just recommended he keep it for later use on a wand.
Here is the QOL Mod by Letaali that helps performance and fixes some bugs in Noita: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2744309004&searchtext=qol
if you use a circle of smth spell with an add trigger and just ignore the infinite lifetime, you can make a "wisp" that doesn't need piercing (doesn't trigger on the player) and isn't infinite but still very deadly
I think you really needed a projectile slow field perk in order to preven wisps from accelerating uncontrollably. Also matter eater to make them not slow down as much.
2:15:50 because we're talking bout veggies if you go to 10000%full then drop the perk with the perk alter do you just pop Also does anyone know why it's only a 6% chance to make a wisp like what determines that
It's probably that non-projectiles have a lifetime of 0, so the code would be if(lifetime =0) remove immediately/ignore else if (lifetime > 0) wait lifetime then remove. So a life time of - 1 or anything less than 0 just isn't taken into account and never gets removed.
Sweet, The Dragon just dropped me a wand with a functional wisp (kinda) no editing of the wand required! - The (kinda) is due to the fact that it works nothing like regular wisps though the end effect was similar. The wand in question had always cast damage field and 10 or so Tentacle with timer and after firing it I got a train of tentacles with damaging fields that would not disappear, got very annoying in the holy mountain though as the tentacle started grabbing my saved resources so I had to restart the game.
I currently have an always cast CoV with rapid fire black holes + small tp bolt run. I visited 9 parallel worlds and there was an always cast nuke in the tower in the main world. Never too late or too soon, just depends on the wands and spells you get and how you build them. I took down the alchemist the first time after like 40hours or so and got the ending with the 11orbs at 60hours (random seeds). If you get a god tier wand and luck with spells and hearts, use it and go out and explore and complete some of the quests and kill bosses.
