I generally prefer HiBy players over Shanling. I have a concern about the volume knob on this one. It is not recessed. Is it easy to click that knob accidentally? Thinking of it gives me HiBy jeebies.

Thanks for this video. I've had the R3 II since yesterday, it's a good little DAP,
it would be really great IF there weren't some big problems: The keyboard is based on an old system of 90s this is not acceptable because there would be room to put all the letters, the little shanling Q1 fits there and it is much smaller!
the interface is really not practical, for example, there is no way to return to the main screen without going up the entire screen chain, and no effective shortcut like on all devices of this type Currently. As for the sound, it's good.with Iem, and good Bluetooth but Some problem with bluetooth , you must forget the device to have the link back... very good battery The device is handy and pleasant.unless all the problems I really like this device .

I bought this DAP very recently. I like the ergononics and size. It’s good to have all cable entry from the bottom edge of the player.
But I found the out-of-the-box sound to be strange. The upper mid range and treble is rich sounding but I think the lower mid range is recessed. It’s hard to put my finger on what’s missing with the sound.
I earlier purchased the Chord Mojo 2 DAC/headphone amp, which I find sounds great alot of the time with no EQ applied, or just needs a small amount of on-board upper bass or lower treble shelf filter adjustment, and/or some level of Left / Right cross feed to sound great with my HD600 headphones on nearly all the music I tend to listen too.
So when I want to listen to my ripped music on the go, or at home if I don’t want to muck around with CDs, I just plug this Hiby R3 ii into the Mojo 2 with the accessory Hiby coax stub cable, then plug the headphones into the 3.5mm jack on the Mojo. The sound is great, and because I can easily adjust the EQ and crossfeed, it never gets fatiguing.
As the Hiby and Mojo 2 are nearly the same size, they stack easily to fit in the hand or in a trouser pocket. Too easy.
So I’m very happy with the Hiby for what I bought it for, which is a fairly cheap, ergonomic and compact digital file transport for ripped music into the Mojo 2.

I got mine today and am disappointed not in the quality or the sound quality but... I bought this because I listen to long lectures in MP3 that are each a couple of hours long. My iBasso Audio keeps my place in my lecture when I turn off the player, so when I turn it back on I am right where I left off. I got this player to be a take on the go work player so my expensive iBasso Audio player doesn't get lost or damaged and it does not book mark or stop and recover from where I left off in the lecture. As a music player I'm sure it's fine but for my purposes it is a paperweight. Maybe I will see if one of my kids want it.

I have two of the same Android TV boxes. One had a software update and became a brick; no workarounds worked, so they're replacing it. My other box works perfectly. You likely have a software glitch that bricked yours. If it's new, they'll replace it for you.

The hiby r3 ii is good but it has the x1000 ingenic processor. The similarly priced shanling m1s has x2000 processor.
Many have complained about the build quality of hiby dap's specially in the budget range.
Also personally I would have liked the audiobook mode which shanling daps have.

@@arthurkillen396 yes, just to make the consumer aware. Hiby although good with updates has suffered from bad build qualities and device breakdowns. And also for a non android device the processor speed does determine the snapiness of daily usage.
$200 is a lot of money specially for hobby and during this tough period, I just hope that the people reading this are aware of the thing they get into and what thy can and will expect as many small tech specs like this slips through the cracks.

Apple also released a cheap 3.5mm dongle that is pretty good, and as good a any internal 3.5mm on a previous phone, so I’m not sure there’s any conspiracy there.

I don't understand how this is supposed to be an "upgrade" from the original R3 Saber.... that big volume knob sticks out like a sore thumb, it is absolutely pointless and it will likely get bumped and banged a lot compared to the nice slim flush buttons on the previous model. Secondly, why did they put the headphone jack on the bottom instead of on the top like before? If I want to plug a Neo-Teck amp into this thing, it's going to be upside down. No thank you. I will stick with my original R3 Saber. That design was better. Also, the R3 Mark 2 has less battery life than the original R3 Saber.... the original model gets 19 hours, R3 Mark 2 gets 16 hours... that's 3 hours less!

I've just become curious about modern DAPs, currently using my Samsung s10e as the player via a Neoteck amp (driving Beyerdynamic DT700 Pro X headphones) sounds fantastic with plenty of vol but it's such a faff when out and about to pull out this knotted bunch of phone/amp/ cable when you want to answer a call or communicate in a shop! I was hoping that with this unit with its 4.4mm balanced output, I might not need the amplifier.
