@@bloodmuzzle I imagine it's like that because of the shortcut. all they did was make the shortcut in the bottom corner the main path, I don't see why everyone hates it when its already faster to do it shroomless and just time your jump, now they made it so you don't slow down on it.
Still a shame that with the exception of some good showcases of 8's lighting engine, these still just look like they were all made with the intention of being in tour first. 8 vanilla really set a high bar and having these more simple theme park-esque levels in the same is v jarring
A bit but the texturing work in a lot of them is more on par with the base game now which helps make them blend in a bit better. Like I even noticed some updated textures in a few wave 1 tracks like Choco Mountain, which now actually has a rocky texture unlike the flat one from before. I mean heck they even updated the cars on Coconut mall with wave 2 so they actually move and make donuts in the parking lot
Agreed. I think they’re at least good enough though that they make the game better rather than worse by their inclusion! I just hope MK9 returns to the quality seen in base MK8 (or better).
Yeah, also the colour palettes in the new levels aren't very good imo. The base game courses had such amazing colour palettes and background design that every part of the courses were just pure eye-candy, even the simpler ones like SNES Rainbow Road. But the new courses in this DLC are honestly a little too simplistic and bland while also too saturated in colours. Doesn't really feel the same at all.
the most fun of all mario karts I had it on N64, you would have 10-20 seconds or more between each set of "prizes" in the road or items, and you would have sometimes up to 40 seconds of just driving, making use of skills alone... while thinking... "when I get to the next items line, if I get this I will do this, if I get that other item I will do this other thiing"
I think they got the artstyle for this wave just right. It still retains that cartoony style, while being more detailed like the base game and more visually pleasing overall.
Exactly, it reminds me of ribbon road now, which ribbon road is one of the few tracks from base game that I actually really like hwo they look. As long as they stay cartoony and don't veer as far into realistic texturing that base game did, I'm extremely happy.
Haven’t played MK8 in like 2 years since I’ve essentially been playing the same game since the Wii U. But this makes it tempting to return. I seriously wonder how MK9 will even compete in terms of content now.
Well knowing MK8 dlc is going on until the end of 2023 it’s highly unlikely that we’ll get any MK9 news until at least 2024 likely longer, (Nintendo’s gonna milk the sales of the dlc and base game for a while) MK9 isn’t coming anytime soon so we don’t really have to worry about it (at least for now)

Lookin' good! The only thing that stood out was the lighting in the Sidney track. It's too saturated in the booster course version. I like the tour one better.
The one that stood out to me the most was SNES mario circuit, mostly cause the track layout stayed the same flat boring course Snow land got a huge upgrade, kinda weird that mario circuit didn't. Especially when the SNES circuit from the base game did.

this wave's graphics look much better than wave 1's in my opinion. the tracks which benefit from high saturation and good lighting like waluigi pinball, new york minute, and mushroom gorge look the most improved in my opinion. this makes me very hopeful for the next waves!!
Do they look as good as the base game? No they don’t. Do they look better than wave 1? Yes. Presides Syndey Sprint and New York Minute, the texture work has improved (and in some cases, it actually exists) however they could simply apply the textures/assets from the previous courses to these. Like they have great tree models they could simply replace the bad ones with, and they could simply add the grass texture to Toad Circuit
As someone from Australia, I wish Sydney Sprint' Harbor Bridge didn't have the tricks on the 1st lap because you don't use them and they're just in the way.
They should have kept the turns as tight as they were, or at least tighter than they ended up with. I think they’ve done really well with updating the GBA tracks.

Well, they already remixed this theme with Wario Stadium, and since that and Waluigi Pinball share the exact same theme, they just recycled the one that was used for Wario Stadium, which makes complete sense. I highly doubt that’s gonna change, but I do agree with you about the remix; I don’t think it’s bad, but it’s certainly not the best version of the Waluigi Pinball theme out there.
