One of the most inventive stories, and with my favourite Tardis team. And it's self-contained and doesn't seek to revise the Doctor or the basic concept of the show for the sake of pulling something out of a hat and surprising the viewer.
We reach an iconic story with Zoe donning her memorable catsuit for the first time, the breathtaking TARDIS exploding and spinning console. And that’s just the start. I think episode 1 is possibly the best episode of the 60s (Ep 12 of Daleks Masterplan could have been in the running for me if it existed). I have fleeting memories of the White Robots but the first clip I remember was the string of sausages scene used in the Who’s Who documentary in 1977 and I loved it. This is the craziest most surreal story where you keep thinking what the f is going on, probably until Warriors Gate. White voids rule.
I was 7 or 8 when I saw it on first transmission (69). Back then - on a small black and white cathode - I remember being wowed by the forest of words and the fascinating 'alice in wonderland' atmosphere of the story.
This is an absolutely amazing story. I probably wouldn't place it as my number one troughton, but it is almost certainly top 3. I sure hope we get a Season 6 collections et soonish because I would love to see an improved restoration for this one! Can't wait to see your thoughts on The Invasion!
I've always enjoyed the more fantastical/surreal stories that crop up from time to time, and The Mind Robber is no exception. Really imaginative, great imagery, well acted.
You're bang on here - not just one of the best Troughton's or 60s who, but one of the best ever. Boundlessly inventive and full of ideas after so many bases and sieges - not only does it make you wish that the rest of Troughton's time was more like this, but it makes stories that struggle to come up with one idea look pitiful in comparison. Enough said!
Everyone is going hate me but last time watched it I loved the first episode and then the rest of was rather aimless to me. I found it be literary hijinks without much purpose to it. Sorry. Troughton is great though throughout.

Episode One is probably the strongest individual episode.....ever!

For me, Mind Robber is not only the best storyline of the second Doctor, but of the entire black and white era of the 1960s.

This and The War Games are my favorite Patrick Troughton Doctor Who stories ever. I love this metta story so much!
I love both those stories, they represent Doctor Who at its most ambitious in terms of storytelling, certainly from this period
Great review, peak comfort Doctor Who this story for me

Probably my least favorite Troughton but still better than anything in McCoy era.
