That looks incredibly clean! It’s a shame this mounting style isn’t more readily available in the market. Or maybe idk where to look. Everyone I know with a gutter mount rack had it custom made.
+David Lankford yeah it turned out real nice. I was worried about the sprayed on bedliner gunking up the expanded steel. It didn't do that at all. The only draw back was getting complete coverage on the inside of the side panels. My roof rack was powder coated. Because powder coat uses a static process to apply the coating. It sucks it into all those hard to get to areas. The bedliner didn't get into those area's very well. If I ever build something like that again I might do powder coat and then bedliner on top of that. I might spray mine with bedliner if it starts fading.
Followed part 1 and just finished up. I'm more into the Nissans myself, but very nice job on the Jeep rack. Really enjoyed the dimple die part. I thought that was cool. Keep up the good work. -Pidge.
+PiDGE IAM Here is the one I build for my Pathfinder. Really similar but the one I did for this Jeep has some cool features to flow with the body lines and mine was just kept simple. facebook.com/AlvarezMetalWorks/photos/pb.380509472024572.-2207520000.1452128609./845762332165948/?type=3&theater
+Dario Ortiz Thanks buddy. Every time I build something I try to step up my game just a little bit more. I've got some cool projects in the works. If you like watching random stuff being built you should stay tuned. You'll enjoy the projects I have in store.
cuanto le diste de altura desde la parte de abajo hasta la parte de arriba del tubo, estoy fabricando una y no se ve igual creo que la construí muy alta soy de República Dominica
Nice! How heavy was it? I'm going to make one and your video gave me more idea's. I don't want mine super heavy but I want it to at least hold 300 pounds.
This is the Roof rack Ive been looking for my XJ for the past year wow its exactly what I want.... Great Job, I'm afraid to ask lol how much would you charge to make this for me this rack is Amazing...
Great job, gave me ideas for my Jeep rack. I am curious, how noisy is it going down the road? It seems that with all the little holes in the mesh and the dimpled sides that it may be loud as the wind moves through.
I can't speak on this exact one but I have one very similar on my Pathfinder and I don't hear anything. Keep in mind we're dealing with exhaust, engine and tire noise too. But I haven't noticed any wind noise.
Turned out awesome! How much would you estimate the weight of it is? Is it possible to make a rack like this out of aluminum? I want to make one for my van but want to keep the weight down. Thanks!!
I honestly don't know. The expanded steel is where all the wright comes from but it's not bad. You don't notice it on the roof. Yes one could be made out of aluminum and yes it would be much lighter. The material cost would be significantly higher though. Steel is stronger than aluminium so you would have to use a thicker wall tube and be very careful with the metal warping when welding it all up.
What is the name of that fence looking stuff that you use for the bottom of the rack. I'm currently building my own rack and I need to order some. Sweet roof rack build btw you make it look easy!
Thanks buddy. It's tough. the equipment needed to speed up the build process is in the 10s of thousands. Then I'd be using that high dollar equipment to build something for an over saturated market. That and shipping is really expensive. The machines required to speed up the build process could be used in a much more profitable manor lol.
+Alvarez Metal Works heh yeah too bad the market is over saturated with shitty racks. I like how you used expanded steel on the deck. No one else seems to do that even though it makes the rack a lot more practical. This one looks badass. Keep up the good work.
+Kevin Letterman thank you. I built this based off a design I did for my own rig (nissan Pathfinder). when I designed mine I built it to meet all the needs i could forsee. This one had the benifit of experience from the first build. The expanded steel is a must. I'll never build one without it.
Ive been looking for a decent rack for my 08 Tahoe, and this is exactly what I've been looking for. Too heavy my ass. If you want it built to last, what you made is perfect. Beautiful craftsmanship man! I want a side ladder coming from the rack to the rear bumper. Do you think having it bolted on would be good enough? Im just worried about rust Again, badass build man!
Thank you very much. And yeah you would want it to bolt on to the bumper or better yet come up with an idea to have a padded foot rest on the bumper rather than bolting to it or welding to it. A rigged mount will stress the metal. Most bumpers move more than the body of the truck. That stress load will travel to the weakest point and could tear the metal over time.
So is it the front four mounts are in the gutter and the rear attached to the roof? I have a forerunner with gutter only over the doors. I want to know how successful mounting to the roof is and how its done, if it can be done.
All the mounts on this are in the gutter. However roof mounts are possible. It really depends on the structure under it and what you're willing to do. My pathfinder doesn't have gutters. I made roof mounts for that roof rack build but I also pulled the headliners and put in backing plates.
Woowwwww I thought that rack looked familiar! I passed by this Jeep up in Syracuse visiting a friend and had to take a picture of his rig, loved it! How much did you charge him for that job? I'd love something similar
+georgewastaken Glad you liked it. It's pretty cool that you saw it locally and then found my videos lol. He's a friends of mine and a fellow founder of Upstate4x4.com. In other words his price isn't the price I would charge someone else. With out the light bar or spray on bead liner that is a $1100 roof rack. Many hours went into building that.
Awesome job, you got some serious skills Rafael (name spelling?).... If I were the customer i would be absolutely rapped with that rack..... have sub'd and ready for more :)
Oscar Pallares no I didn't ad anything extra. The mounts fit super tight as it is. the only coating was the raptor liner that my friend sprayed the rack with.
Syracuse NY. If you're serious and can make that trip hit me up on my FB page or send me an email through my website. Link to my website is in the video description. To find me on FB just search Alvarez Metal Works.
$1000 if you're local. I don't mass produce these and do not ship. Shipping is way to high plus I build to fit the vehicle. Every one is just slightly different so I only build for locals.
Alvarez Metal Works I was asking to see if it would work since I have so much available to me but I'll do as you say and get steel what size tubing did you use
Alvarez Metal Works thanks I really like how your rack came out I've been looking and trying to figure out a design to go with that's simple and nice, I'll have to invest into a tubing bender as I have everything else to get it done,
Nigel Naughton why is it important for any of you to know what the weight is? I didn't build it for you. I built it for a friend a long time ago. And no I won't be asking him to stop buy so I can remove it and weigh it because a couple people on youtube want to critique my work. Do you not understand how unrealistic this request is? And why it's actually pointless for someone like myself to actually follow through with your request? I'm not selling these things to the public dispite the number of requests for one. So why is the weight a concern for any of you? However if you want to do the math have at it. I used 1 inch tubing with a 16 gauge wall thickness. Not sure how much the mounts weigh but the link for the manufacturer is in the video description. Feel free to contact them and ask how much they weigh. As for the expanded steel? I have no idea how much that weighs it was the lightest weight stuff my steel supplier had on the racks. It about as thick as the tubing is thick. Have fun doing the math and estimating it's weight. Hope it's worth your time and effort...
Honestly prolly one of the best roof racks I’ve seen for an xj, if you sold those I 1000% would buy one
Thank you very much
Very nice. I want one for my hummer h3.
If you can get it to me I'll build you one.
That turned out well! I wish I could afford one this nice. I'm going to try my hand at building one myself. Thanks for the video. 👍🏻
This nicest roof rack out there man
That looks incredibly clean! It’s a shame this mounting style isn’t more readily available in the market. Or maybe idk where to look. Everyone I know with a gutter mount rack had it custom made.
Excellent job. I like the bedliner finish. Really appreciate the detail you go into with your videos and how you are always thinking ahead. Thanks!
If I ever build something like that again I might do powder coat and then bedliner on top of that. I might spray mine with bedliner if it starts fading.
Congrats on the finished product, it's American quality.
that is the best roof rack i saw in my life ,,, good job i hope if u can make me one for my 4Runner
If I made a rack this nice, I would not put it in my jeep, it would become my living room coffee table...
Thank you lol
Alvarez Metal Works I don't have stuff to make this shit but I sure do wish I did after buying a jeep
Alvarez Metal Works would you be willing to make another one of these without the sunroof cut out?
Tony Fonseca only if you're local (Syracuse NY) and able to leave your jeep here until it's done. I need it for mockup.
Alvarez Metal Works how much this cost?
definitely tuned in for more projects like this, will check out roark supply. Keep up the good work came out looking real good.
+Alexis Burgos Thanks buddy!
Would you be willing to make another roof rack almost the same way ?
Great job, it looks fantastic and I bet it will be handy. ..
Fantastic build. I'm going to borrow your design when I build my own.
excelente video , muchas gracias saludos desde Argentina
Followed part 1 and just finished up. I'm more into the Nissans myself, but very nice job on the Jeep rack. Really enjoyed the dimple die part. I thought that was cool. Keep up the good work.

+PiDGE IAM thank you. getting ready to cage it and put a solid axle up front. Sub if you want to catch the videos.
Looks pretty sweet man! Keep up the good work! I started watching your videos because of your WD21. I've got a D21 I'm fixing up.

Great fab job! Very nice looking XJ as well.
+Duane Price Thank you
Great video definitely wish i lived up north so i could get you to fab me up one for XJ. Great vid.
+head0927 Thank you
Nice! How heavy was it? I'm going to make one and your video gave me more idea's. I don't want mine super heavy but I want it to at least hold 300 pounds.
That looks good. Those dimples really finish it but WOW the dies are super expensive!!!
This is the Roof rack Ive been looking for my XJ for the past year wow its exactly what I want.... Great Job, I'm afraid to ask lol how much would you charge to make this for me this rack is Amazing...
I'm not open to the public but I would charge $1000 for this without the light bar and it would be raw steel.
would you be willing to make another one? similar to this (without the cut out for the sun roof as my XJ does not have one)? Thanks for your time.
Woow!, quedó muy bonita!, excelente trabajo!,
awesome build.. I'm interested in having one made. I have a 1996 XJ Jeep
How much is the price for one these things this is so cool how much without the opening for the sun roof ??
excelente portaequipaje, excelente trabajo... saludos desde CD Juárez México
Bad ass rack man! Nice job!
thank you
Nice rack .......... That is a clean looking XJ ...... You dont see too many that are not all beat up around my house ..
+Norman Murray The owner takes really good care of it.
I have always driven myself crazy bending tubing and having the dimensions come out right. Maybe you can do a video on that.
Very nice I want one exactly like this how much would you charge?
, I wish I could leave you my XJ, love this rack. why do no companies make racks that look this good. available for purchase.
That looks great!! I want one where can I order? one are you in California?
How much will it cost to have you make one for my jeep?
How difficult would you say this is for a newcomer to metalworking? I'm experienced in woodworking only.
Turned out awesome! How much would you estimate the weight of it is? Is it possible to make a rack like this out of aluminum? I want to make one for my van but want to keep the weight down. Thanks!!

+Kendra Stutters thank you
Looks amazing, would love a roof rack like this for my 97 4runner
+Matthew Berman Thanks buddy
What is the name of that fence looking stuff that you use for the bottom of the rack. I'm currently building my own rack and I need to order some. Sweet roof rack build btw you make it look easy!
Expanded steel. You want the flat type of expanded steel. The other type doesn't lay flat.
Nice job 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you
Nice work, 👍👍
+YCM30cnc Thanks buddy
Awesome work!
Dewayne Rivera thank you
This is a nice looking rack. I bet if you could streamline the process you could make some decent coin selling these.....starting with my order....
Thanks buddy. It's tough. the equipment needed to speed up the build process is in the 10s of thousands. Then I'd be using that high dollar equipment to build something for an over saturated market. Thank for all your great vids, Mr. Alvarez, just one question, did you weld the whole rack with TIG or you use both, MIG and TIG. Thanks in advance.
+Jaime Ramirez 80% TIG 20% MIG The side panels got some love from the MIG because I needed the metal build up so I could grind it smooth.
Good fucken job. It came out awesome.
Thanks buddy
Ive been looking for a decent rack for my 08 Tahoe, and this is exactly what I've been looking for. Too heavy my ass. If you want it built to last, what you made is perfect. Beautiful craftsmanship man!

what paint di you used ? how can i pain like that? is amazing .........congratulations...
It's a bedliner paint. Same stuff you would put on a truck bed; almost plastic in texture.
ok thank!
How much do you charge to build ?
wow its beautiful
Please get in touch. Looking to custom make a roof rack for my van. Thanks
Nice build......clean. do you mind telling me where you picked up the gutter brackets. Subbed
it's in the video description
Thank you
Good job!

+georgewastaken Thank you
how much would a rack like that set some one back?
Awesome job, you got some serious skills Rafael (name spelling?).... If I were the customer i would be absolutely rapped with that rack..... have sub'd and ready for more :)
thanks buddy
how much for a roof rack like exactly like this? ill pay full price and shipping I live on hawaii
thats badass!! i need a welder lol
how much was that roof rack . I have a Ford expedition 1998 I would like for you to make me one
what size hole where the side rails (dimple die size)
that looks amazing!
How much for one of these for my Cherokee?
Did you use any coating/rubber on the gutters so they don't rust with the roof rack feet?
Oscar Pallares no I didn't ad anything extra. The mounts fit super tight as it is. the only coating was the raptor liner that my friend sprayed the rack with.
What were the dimensions of the build?
can you drag that everlast plasma cutter on the metal surface or do you need to hold it slightly above the metal?
Technically you should hold it above the material. I drag mine all the time though. It's hard on the consumables when you drag them.
How much would this roof rack cost
Oh snap he's a pats fan!
Is there anyway I could get the specs for this rack. I’m not local but love the look of this rack and would like to make it
Everything you need to know is in the videos.
nice work
How much to make another for my XJ?
great roof rack....how do I go about getting one made?
first step is to bring me your Jeep for a few days. The next step is to being me $1000.
sounds great where are you located?? and can I bring my wk and we come up with one for it+Alvarez Metal Works
Syracuse NY. If you're serious and can make that trip hit me up on my FB page or send me an email through my website. Link to my website is in the video description. To find me on FB just search Alvarez Metal Works.
How do you make gutter mount?
very sweet
What size light bar is on that roof rack?
40
Do you have a price if some one wanted you to build one
If I built another one I'd more than likely charge $1000 if it was just like this one.
I looking something like that for a ford excursion 4x4 7.3 diesel
What would you charge to make me one of these? Where are you located?
$1000 if you're local. I don't mass produce these and do not ship. Shipping is way to high plus I build to fit the vehicle. Every one is just slightly different so I only build for locals.
Great rack! School camera not so much.
what size tubing did you use?
1", 16 gauge wall
Very kick as rack bro. You should post more videos
Need one like this for my FJ...
$$ ?
Muito profissional.
Nice💪💪💪👌👌👌👍👍👍
i want one :(
nice unit! are you sure you didn't order this from China? lol
Thank you for the vid but maaaaan you never go straight to the point 😅
I want to build one like this for my 99 Durango, but can I use 1/2 or 3/4 emt
Kareem Colebrooke why would you want to use that? Why not just go to a steel supplier and order the proper stuff?
Alvarez Metal Works I was asking to see if it would work since I have so much available to me but I'll do as you say and get steel
what size tubing did you use
If I remember correctly it was 1" tube 16 gauge wall.
Alvarez Metal Works thanks I really like how your rack came out I've been looking and trying to figure out a design to go with that's simple and nice, I'll have to invest into a tubing bender as I have everything else to get it done,
how much ?$$
sweet !
HOw much did the owner pay for all of this?
+Zealot RC quite a bit less than I'd charge anyone else.
rugged retrofits jeep.
Great rack but so many advertisements man... cmon
Too heavy
There is always a critic. I just find it interesting that you seem to know the weight of this just by watching a video.
Could you weigh it so we know? Another viewer asked and you said you didn't know but it would be very informative...thanks!
Nigel Naughton why is it important for any of you to know what the weight is? I didn't build it for you. I built it for a friend a long time ago. Nigel Naughton Thank you
Nice job
