Coming from a custom build carbon wheels with CK R45 on my last rim brake venge to a now Sworks 2020 Venge w/Clx 64 on upgrade 54t I definitely prefer the smoothness of the CK and the engagement is superior you don’t feel even sense the engagement as opposed dt 54t clunky noise when engage sometimes depending how you apply power. Been thinking on changing the rear hub on the clx to a CK, will see
I enjoy quiet hubs. I changed my DT Swiss from a 54 to 18 ratchet to decrease the noise, and for me it was bliss. I also really like the Shimano free hubs sound. Dura Ace C 40 is my favorite.
Totally agree. Can’t stand loud, obnoxious hubs. Love the refinement of a quiet, higher pitched hub. To me it just sounds like Swiss clockwork. Loud hubs just seem ridiculous to me and I instantly think less of the rider who has them.
Could you rank them in terms of durability/reliability and ease of maintenance? Looking to buy my first set of aero carbon wheels next year and would like something that I can use and maintain for 5 years or more until they really become obsolete compared to newly released stuff.
What is a good upgrade from a Fulcrum Racing 7? Also if I'm getting the Merida Reacto 5000 Bahrain, what would be a good wheelset to replace the stock Merida Expert wheelset?
shit i do not know merida bikes in terms of spec but I mean anything like 1500 wheel set, go reynolds or enve foundation but I mean it is going to be so hard to find
Wait I have 2 sets of Chris King R45 hub with and without ceramic bearing (rim brake model though). But I thought the sound change by speed is normal for all system similar to CK's RingDrive. Not sure since I have no experience with DT-Swiss internal hubs... Indeed CK hub spins crazy when I coast in high speed....
@@GCPerformance18 I just saw a video you uploaded 7 months ago..(how to make your hub sound like a S-works hud) (!!in the money!!)..just upgrade the ratchet from 18t to 54t..👍
I have not seen any mavics around me anymore, I dont know if that in the states they are not as popular as they use to be after getting aquired by enve.... but I miss them, they werre one of my faveorite wheels
I dont know, I have so many tastes and would lvoe to do a build but inventory is so low and dont want to take away from the store eyt but I ahve one coming soon
Love the sound of those Chris King but yea sinec it's ridiculously overpriced, I'll stick with the Zipp. I just ordered at PBK the 303 Firecrest few days ago, can't wait to try it out this summer! Replacing the Roval C38 I had with the quiet DT350 it came with.
Hi GC Performance, I just bought Roval Alpinist CL HG wheels (the $1600 set) with DT 350 hub and 18T, but there is almost no freehub sound when I rotate the wheel in my hand? Is this normal? Did Roval apply too much grease in there or the combination (DT 350 + 18T) does not have loud free hub sound? I like loud free hub sound and I am disappointed so far with this purchase.
@@GCPerformance18wow I didn't expect a reply from the creator of the video... im honoured! I have a profile mini but I removed “all” grease and double springed all of the pawls... check out the video on my account. And thanks for the reply!
who agrees with me for the number 1 spot????
I was going to go#3 but yeah i have to agree for number one

My #1 in those is the Reynolds!
Best bang for your buck video would interesting you could do videos on different components.
Same!!! King hubs are just sooo good… A swarm of bees 🐝… Happy 4th! Now time for an evening ride!
“This is what I would build if I has money”
*i felt that too* ✊😔
for real doe....... it is something I stay up for late at night thinking of the bike builds I would do if I had dentist money
Just did the 54t DT Swiss upgrade thanks to your video. I love it!
you are very welcome, I love that upgrade
6:42 The drag on this hub is too big for these ceramic bearings, which have almost no friction, so the cranks are rotating xd
I already love this channel... and when I saw your kb, I love it even more!
Lol I love alll the keyboard love I get on here haha
I figured CK would be number 1. Personally, I prefer the “chunky” sound of the enve hub. The lower pitch has a quieter confidence to it.
the enve is really nice and also the price point makes it good, but jsut preference when it came down to it
Death: "your time has come"
Me: "but...GC dropped...a freehub vid.."
Death: "fine 10 more minutes"
:))) that gave me the biggest smile lmao made my night, have a good forth!!!

hey I undertsand and that is the reason why they make both for people to have the optin
Did you just sacrifice 2/3 of your hub engagement to make your hubs 5dbs quieter
Sadly it doesn't work like that. What you actually did was reduced the degree of engagement. If you want to reduce the noise just put more grease.
Totally agree. Can’t stand loud, obnoxious hubs. Love the refinement of a quiet, higher pitched hub. To me it just sounds like Swiss clockwork. Loud hubs just seem ridiculous to me and I instantly think less of the rider who has them.
You are losing a lot of degree of engagement. Its better to use a lot more grease
Do you have a sound chart review of MTB freehubs?
Better than my online class presentation.
hahahahhaha :)) kepot it simple
Salute GCP número uno 🙏👍🔥🇵🇷💯
luis!!!!!!!!!!!

shittttt you might be on too something there lol
My favorite is any carbon fiber road wheel by Hunt. Everything about the sound of those hubs is just right to my ears.
never really heard a hunt wheel in person to be honest
My teammates owns a pair of hunts, they are quite loud, but I agree sound very nice
Greenway users hear from Hunt Wheels from a 1/4 mile away.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ love it broo
thank you :)

I miss silent freewheels. We used to take the Park 'Freewheel Buddy' and inject Phil grease...they would be absolutely silent.
yea the onyx hubs are really nice and quiet
CLX 64 with DT Swiss 54t with light grease is the loudest thing on the road!
yea man they are really nice
Mavic hubs sound the best imo as you can tune the sound to how you prefer it.
mavics are amazing but i mean I have not seen any of them in so long, not alot of dealers around here
How do you tune the sound?
Even the loudest chainsaw ain't got nothing on these hubs.🤣
hahahahahha
You might actually really like Industry Nine hubs since the Reynolds hubs are rebranded i9 hubs.
yea I know they kil it
I don’t think anyone was surprised Chris king was #1
lmaooo
Is there a general name or word in English for the spinning freehub sound please. Is it perhaps called "coaxing"?
What about Campagnolo? They’re my favourite freehub sound. Love the videos, it would be great to see Campagnolo builds
I dont have a lot of those come by the store so I dont see them to put them in this list unfortauntlytt
#3 Reynolds 😍 #1 Chris King 🔥🔥
:))) thanks for watching
Do you think the i9 hubs are louder than the 54t DT Swiss ratchets?
54t is deeper i9 is more like a fine piecing noise
chris king is chris king. for me #1!!
you have good taste sir

yes thats the parts that is causing that but thats the idea behind it and the reason for it

Is the last demo for Chris King R45 hubs?
I have a feeling you'll like HED hubs. I have the RC5 black on my bike and it's similar to the Enve's. Great overview!
I need to see some of the newer hed wheels I have only seen the older ones and I was not a fan
I need a loud hub for the hills I ride. Deer and turkey EVERYWHERE. Scare dem how's out the way.
The CLX Roval wheel - my freehub has that same uneven ZZZZzzzZZZzzzz sound. Is that normal or is it from a wheel out of balance?
The Mavic Allroad freehub sounds rather naughty too

Why did the #2 spot look like it was wobbling up and down??
none balanced wheels
It sounds so annoying, maybe thats why I like it, cuz I’m annoying”
*i felt that* 😔
hahahahaha
if u like those Reynolds, u will like the Miche Altur Race hub sounds
never heard of them I have to checxk them out

thanks so much, now i have a tgr, times have changed lol

Onyx sounds the best imo
for me, the best sound a hub can make is no sound.
check out the new time bike video I did with fulcrum wheels, they are quiet
Shimano ultegra almost no sound👍
