My usual night street photography settings: Shoot wide open (lowest f/stop number), I like to keep shutter speed no lower than 1/125 to freeze motion, then I keep ISO changeable depending on the light. (Video on night street photo tips coming soon!)
My pleasure! It’s not incredible but it still holds up, would definitely like to try a wider aperture lens on the Fuji at night in the future! Hopefully going to buy some vintage lenses and an adaptor soon :)
Just subscribed. True street photography! Really nice photos man really enjoyed this video. Just goes to show you don’t need the ‘best’ camera on the market to take stunning photos
Thanks so much for the comment! I really appreciate it. I’ve been wanting to upgrade my camera for a while, put can still pull out a few nice shots, glad you like my work! 🙏🏻
Daim, the night footage is so clean and good. Looking forward to that tips video. All my night footage from London i had to scrap. Geez... The shot of the Lady with the red lamp over her head threw the window, and that dude in suit watching his phone in the red lit hall are my favourites, haha. Another banger video!!
Thanks so much mate! I really appreciate the kind words, and those two are probably my fav shots as well :). All filmed on the GoPro hero 8, some footage is a bit better than other footage somehow haha, but overall not too bad!
Hey Gabriel, thanks so much for the comment! It’s comments like these that make me want to crack on creating new videos and keeps my motivation up - so it’s much appreciated 🙏🏻
Hey Tim, just stumbled across your videos last night, great stuff! It was refreshing to watch a POV where I actually liked the photos, not just Buses and Taxis with orange and teal presets thrown at them! 😂 Keep up the good work!
Hey! Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. It can be tricky to film at the same time as trying to get good shots so I’m really happy you like them, keeps me motivated reading comments like this, so thank you! 🙏🏻
@@timjamiesonphotos I can imagine, my brain seems to only cope with shooting or filming, never both together. Maybe I’ll strap a GoPro to me and give a POV a go at some point. Always happy to spread some motivation, all the best 🤙🏼
Congrats Tim 👏🏼! This is an awesome POV of London street photography at night and the images with the 50 mm lens are stunning. I did the same for a few years with the X-T3. Watch my London video with the Fuji X-T3 . Will do it again next year 👍🏼😎
I am so happy to hear that because making videos that inspire people to go out and shoot is exactly why I started this channel! So thanks for your comment! 😊
@@timjamiesonphotos Favourite place so far was probably much like your video, in and around Soho and Chinatown, especially at night. Next time I'm planning on visiting Brick Lane and the Barbican.
Great image at 7:23. But I was hoping the subsequent pause was for steeling yourself for the shot of the woman in the window at 7:35. 🙂 Love the POV video you've made here.
Thank you! I actually have a shot from that window from a previous trip, so didn’t feel the need to duplicate the shot. It’s on my instagram if you want to check it out 😜
really nice images. thanks for the effort and the sharing. care to share some technical questions? single or continuous AF? single shot or burst? is 1/125th your go-to with the 50mm or generally your night street shutter speed? again, really wonderful pix. thumbs up.
Thank you! Single AF, single shot, I try to keep around 1/125 but have been experimenting with slower like 1/60 in very low light and that’s with all the f2 Fuji lenses I own - hope that helps!
Thanks a lot mate! Really appreciate the comment, keeps my motivation up 🙏🏻 I went out from sunset (which in October was like 6pm) then stayed out 3-4 hours, this video is from two consecutive nights that I was in London where I went out from sunset to about 9/10pm (with a dinner break haha) hope that helps!
Great POV. I love it! Question: I have an X-S20, and as such no ISO control wheel. What to do easiest? Put on Auto ISO, or manually change and checking the lightmeter/histogram?
Thanks! On my xe4 (which also doesn’t have a dedicating iso dial) I set the front dial to iso and use that as I change it a lot when shooting at night :)
@@timjamiesonphotos Thanks. It just seemed to me that leaving the ISO on Auto you could then focus completely on getting the shot rather than maybe missing it due to fiddling with the camera although it works well for you. Just my opinion obviously. Great vid again!!
Being relatively new to photography especially night photography. I struggle at nighttime because my shutter speed always end up to long to get great quick snaps. Iv noticed after watching more and more videos, my ISO is too low, which I’m guessing is what’s making my shutter speed so long. My question is… do you set your ISO to automatic??
Hey, no I just focus on finding good light sources. I shoot full manual, use a prime lens to the widest aperture and set a shutter speed of around 1/125 then will adjust my iso depending on the available light :)
@@timjamiesonphotos Thanks for the reply 😁👍🏼 Ok that’s brill. I only asked because I didn’t notice you making a change that’s all. But thank you very much for the advice 👌🏼 Great video though by the way, learnt a great deal from it

I own 18-55 with my xt30. Will that suffice?
Film simulation?
This is honestly some of the best street photography in RUclips right now, this guys hella active as well keep the videos coming mate
That is a massive compliment thank you 🙏🏻 you’re too kind!
I could watch these every day, please do loads of them 🌟
Thanks! Heaps on the channel already but have one coming out on Tuesday too :)
A really great set of images from this session 👍

Lovely photos. They look surprisingly sharp at f2 and at relatively high ISOs.
Thanks!

Nice one mate.. you must spend so long editing your vids! The intro is class
Haha cheers mate. Yeah, not sure how much longer I can keep up one a week tbh haha

Just popped into your video. Great stuff. Some pictures remind me of Ernst Haas.

Just subscrided...these look awesome, well done, great content. Quick question re focussing... whats your prefered method for this type of photo?
Thanks James! Really appreciate that. At night I use single point auto focus, and most of the time these days in the day I zone focus manually :)
You should try that in Hackney. :-)
I’ve never been to Hackney! What’s it like? Lots of options for night street photography?
Hi Tim. Just wanted to ask do you set your ISO to Auto or are you changing it on the go?
Hey! I normally change on the fly, especially at night. But recently in the day I’ve been setting an auto iso range :)

Just bought the xt2. Did you just set the f stop and shutter speed and use auto iso.
Nice :) I usually set 1/125 minimum shutter speed, shoot wide open and then adjust the iso as I go - so shoot in full manual :)

Are your pictures straight out of camera with a film simulation or do you do some editing later?
Hey man, I edit my pics in Lightroom, will hopefully put out an editing video in the future if people are interested :)
Have you tried using flash during night photography and if so how did that affect your shots?
Only once! I definitely plan to try flash more next year :)
