This time on THE IDENT REVIEW, we return to Channel 4 to take a look at the vast majority of sequences that occupied viewers screens from 2004 to 2015!
After the new millennium began, many TV channels began to adapt a 'bare bones' approach to their idents. Channel 4 also did this to an extent, but still managed to inject its own signature quality into many of the sequences they presented. So join me, as we go through half an hours worth of Channel 4 idents, many of which went on to become absolute classics!

I can't thank you enough for this review. Honestly, it might sound strange but these idents have a special place in my heart. You know that they held much must older and that I watch them all the time and still do sometimes go back to the island gallery to watch them. I know it's going to be a great review and yeah I said it before but thank you so much for this ident review and I'm looking forward to the next one, if it is. Happy that this is a long one too.

The Pylons Channel 4 Ident Was Playing When Countdown Was On In 2009
Once you really think about these idents, it actually starts to scare me imagine waking up and casually seeing rectangles floating for no reason, and seeing floating buildings. Hell this could make one hell of a horror film.
It reminds me of the visions people get after they play Tetris too much! But you're right, a horror film is ripe for the making!
@@AdamMartyn and i know we'll disagree on this but when i was about 7 and saw the blackpool ident, it really annoyed me as the tower was not parallel.
As an American, I find entertainment and enjoyment from both American and British television, and British TV, along with your country’s better quality of life and cultural charm, make me want to move to the UK when I grow up. Great review as always. Keep up the good work.
I know you might have already covered the specially designed one for the Simpsons with Homer trying to reach over for his cans of Duff.
Also, the Tokyo one was really beautiful with all the vibrant colours and the panning shots of the city.
Also, the gritty realism of the Flats one definitely captured what it was going for and very well might I add, the music also adds to the vibe too.

I may be 2 years late, but amazing video! I recently have been going down the Rabbit Hole of TV, Indents and Channel Shutdowns and haven't found a good channel covering them until yours! Keep up the amazing content!
Also as a theme park and coaster enthusiast, the theme park from 23:59 (Coaster) is from Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Park, California. The rider POV is on the ride "Jaguar!" with the pieces around the set being from other rides around the park such as "Xcelerator" and "Perilous Plunge".
I Am Sure everyone remembers Flats!

It's where Sir Tony Blair made his first speech as PM too.
I remember capturing some of these back in the mid 00's when I got my first capture card for my PC. Although, I think a lot of them were bumpers between ads. I've still got them somewhere. I'll have to look them up.

“Flats” was the last ident that showed on Channel 4’s 2004 ident set before the Pieces Set debut on Tuesday, 29th September 2015 at 9 PM. I would mind that the Clock ident is really good of how it unwraps for a new look.
Channel 4's 2015-17 Idents Were Nightmare Fuel To Me
I actually included a snapshot from one of these Channel 4 idents in a video I made on my college years back in April!
Everybody's every day favourite nuisance was my favourite part of this whole video. This was like pure nostalgia to me. I remember seeing this idents all the time and being drawn to pretty much all of them. Great video 📹 👍🏻❤

A suggestion for a next channel to cover is Disney Channel UK's original three eras- the launch set, the red and blue set, and the "circles" set.
The hedge ident used to scare me when I was young.

I had wondered when these would be done. My favourite was the electric pylons. The diner and UFO ones I remember only really being used after 9pm
Honestly can't remember ever seeing Ruins or Sofa but that could just be my poor memory. Great era though.
As much as I like the current robot look, nothing can beat these in my opinion, did you know that outside the Channel 4 headquarters they made a giant 4 out of steel that references these idents? I've always been fascinated by that!
They Had An Unaired Drunk Man Ident
Honestly the Angle idents where various shapes come together and form the logo for like 3 frames before going away again are my favourite ones from this set. Specifically the longer ones. My favourite one being Diner.
I remember "Market", "Flats" and "Pylons" being played before the Simpsons episodes.

According to sources, the new BBC blocks are due to debut in October. Also, some people on Twitter are saying that they've spotted some filming for the new BBC One idents. One person on TV Live Forum has said that the new idents are "stunning", so that's reassuring. But hey, at least we're getting rid of Oneness once and for all.

These idents came out in my childhood when I was born in 2004. My top 10 favourites are
1. Island
2. Pylons
3. Roadworks
4. Hay
5. Dubai
6. Bowls
7. Trafalgar Square/pigeons
8. Diner
9. Market
10. Flats
All these are great because they are the top 10 best.

I remember another one that was a cartoon ident, that ran before The Simpsons.
Don't know if it is just me, but I do find it quite strange that these idents were introduced on New Years Eve. Like, wouldn't it have made more logical sense for these idents to have launched the day after, on New Years Day? No idea what the thought process was at Channel 4.

Yet another great episode! I don’t have much to say but could you please do the BBC 2 Christmas idents from the “Curve” set?
It was so hard to find the 4 in the scrapyard ident.
I’ve gotta say, C4 has some of the most consistently good idents. From the giant to these ones from 2004, there hasn’t been a single batch that I considered a “flop”. My favourites are Tokyo and Ruins, because the way the bunnies hop reminds me of an advert for a certain black currant drink...
I beg to differ. The idents that were in use from 2015 until 2017 were a huge flop.

You should reconsider putting Docks as a dud. Sure you don’t remember seeing it that much, but that may have influenced your decision in this ident. I think the docks setting is honestly beautiful, and the 4 is relatively visible, too.

I did record a segment on that ident as part of this review but its inclusion got the video blocked in all countries! So I had to cut it I'm afraid!
