Albino Baby Elephant, Khanyisa Gets Injured & Treated 🐘✨

- Here is a glimpse into quite a common sight at the homestead… looking after the elephants’ wounds. Whether it’s from sparring with each other or feeding on hard vegetation, the elephants are prone to wounds from life in the wild, just as we as humans might sustain knocks or bruises here and there. Sometimes it’s cause for concern but like Khanyisa’s little cut in the region around her tusk, some are small and heal quickly. Still, we do all we can to prevent injuries from worsening.
Here Adine applies Cyclo Spray to Khanyisa’s wound to prevent any infection from forming. Khanyisa doesn’t like the spray on her wound and rumbles grumpily. But she’s not too bothered that she has to stop eating her pellets and sweet potatoes!
Appena ho tradotto... mi sono impaurita per khanyisa,ancora non so dove si è ferita,senz'altro con cortecce ,rami spinosi o tronchi d'albero duri.Mamma Adine però è subito corsa ai ripari e voilà con lo spray verde che ha suscitato la reazione della piccina pink ( sentiva male, gli bruciava forte e lei l'ha fatto capire chiaramente...!)Inoltre se non ci fosse Stravos uno dei suoi baby sitter preferiti ( da me) che la imbocca, che l'aiuta e aiutata in passato con tanto AMORE e pazienza ,ricambiato pienamente da Khanyisa come avrebbe fatto la piccola a vivere???? Nel suo grande dolore e ferite inferte nel corpo e nell'anima ,la presenza ,l'aiuto ,la consapevolezza di mamma Adine ,Stravos,e gli altri badanti è stato di grande conforto e aiuto per superare il dramma e la lunga guarigione.FORZA PICCOLA PINK E GRAZIE ALL' AMORE INCONDIZIONATO CHE TI DANNO TUTTI!
I can't believe she didn't like it. She takes her trunk to rub the spray off. How cute. Just like a typical kid.
These elephants have already shown what an extremely fine sense of smell they have. Maybe the spray tastes or smells a bit bitter, unusual or just like medicine? Of course kids don't like that.

Ahh, bless her. At least she has a loving team to look after her. I hope it's not too bad and it clears up very soon. Poor princess.

@@Irelandgal yes, I just got a terrible fright at 1:45 am. Adine was going to fetch the antibiotic spray so it looks like our little Braveheart's tusk area will heal well. Stavros is such a good carer for our little one!

@@lennarthagen3638 Surely you are not disparaging this concern and care given to the youngest of the HERD? As Adine says, in the wild, animals have to take their chances but for elephants in their care, there must be responsibility to take seriously any wound.

It doesn't seem that long ago, what a long way she's come.

And the spray must have reminded her of her early trauma and her first arrival when her ear and neck were covered with that spray, and its odor. And it obviously hurt when she was sprayed.

Unperturbed about her injury she continues to eat. Chews each mouthful well. She didn't go much on the spray as probably tastedit as well as her pellets.

I was thinking that in the wild a lot of plants that they eat probably have anti bacterial properties. That's why it's vital for them to travel and eat a wide variety of things...
Great comment - now I'm curious. Was recently reading about how many years it takes Mama orangutans to teach their young what's ok to eat, how to build rain shelters, etc. Ellies are brilliant, too, and must pass wisdom along in different ways. 🌍🐘💙

Khanyisa and Stavros have a remarkable relationship. I wonder how she does when Stavros is gone for six weeks. She (elephants in general) is so smart and sensitive it is my hope that she has learned the rhythm of his coming and going, somehow integrated the "time sense" so that she keeps the confidence of his return while he is gone. I really appreciated anew the competence and knowledge Adine has with all the elephant care, the medical things especially. So much kindness and gentleness with Khanyisa, letting her know 'all done for now' and saying how sorry when Khanyisa had a not unsurprising reaction to the spray.
So nice that the herd is so well taken care of

I’d bet the tail hairs, if gathered, would make a circle whereas if both sides equal, it would make an ovoid. The circle maximizes air flow.
