"Baker Street" by Jerry Rafferty is a great example of 1970s studio wizardry.
The best engineered album of all time, in my opinion, would by _The Nightfly_ by Donald Fagen, which was one of the first albums recorded digitally.
Of course, Steely Dan's albums _Aja_ and _Gaucho_ are probably the best produced analog albums.

Best production for me would either go to Foreplay/Longtime off of Boston's first record, really any song off that album, or any song off of YES, 90125.
Any song off of Supertramp, Breakfast in America would be a contender.
Aside from how great the writing and performances are on any of these works, the production on any of them are absolute masterclasses in production. They are all absolute masterpieces.

I just went to see “Jeff Lynne’s ELO” on the “Over & Out Tour” last night in Houston. (10/16/24). What a sweet trip down memory lane. No filler, all hits, he put together an ace band, and the production was fantastic.
I found myself on the verge of tears more than once & had a smile on my face the whole show. That’s the soundtrack of my youth for sure. I never saw ELO live before, so I’m super grateful to have seen Mr. Lynne on the farewell trip.
Those songs. SO iconic. SO unique. SO good.

Im a 70s kid. I had the opportunity to see ELO twice. They were and incredible band. I raised my kids on my music. My son (16) started playing guitar at 10. His teacher asked him who were his musical influences. Bobby said "Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, George Harrison - together and separately." My son tells his sister (26) she married her husband because he looks like Jeff Lynne. If your kids are Jeff Lynne fans, you raised them right.

ELO, The Seven Man Band, has been my favorite band since 5th grade...around 1978. Living in rural Maine at the time, we did not have a lot of disposable income. Back in that era, things were different for kids...if you wanted something, you had to work and save your allowance for it. Then you had to convince your folks to take the time to bring you to town so you could buy it. That's how it was for me, we lived about 30 minutes outside of Bangor. There wasn't a mall at that time so making the "pilgrimage" of a day spent downtown was kind of a big deal. Me and my buddy Derek would have the day all planned out...grab breakfast at the Norumbega, hit The Gamemaster for D&D stuff, head over to the arcade for a few bucks worth of video games, catch a matinee at the opera house and finally head to Varney Music. I couldn't afford brand new records at 10 bucks a pop, so I'd hit the bins of used ELO records and try to find some gems. What I ended up doing was find multiple copies of the same record and try to piece together the best album cover, the best inner sleeve, any extras and of course, the best vinyl pressing. I'd get them all together for the best overall experience and for about 3 bucks, walk out like I'd hit the lottery. It took a while, but I eventually had all of their US released records. I remember there was a skip on "Evil Woman" that took me forever to fix, but when I did, the joy it brought was incredible. At night, I'd put on my headphones and listen to ELO for hours. Big clunky headphones...with an 8' coiled cord so I could move around my room. With the headphones on, you could pick up all these little nuances that were missed otherwise. As a child of the 70s and 80s, Jeff Lynn and ELO took me on banger musical adventures and it was awesome. I even used Jeff Lynn's lyric from "Boy Blue" (El Dorado, 1974) in my yearbook as my senior quote, "One thing, I have learned through the years, is that no man should be stricken with fear, it should be that he walks with no care in the world." There are so many significant events of my childhood that revolve around or can be connected to this band that it can be said that they have been woven into the tapestry that is my life.
There were no fans of ELO like me, growing up in my neck of the woods and I always felt the Jeff Lynn and ELO were truly underappreciated. It seems lately that the world is finally and truly appreciating just how great ELO's music really is. Thank you, Dr. of Rock, for your many episodes featuring Jeff Lynn and his far reaching influence in rock-n-roll. For me, your segments lend a certain amount of validation, legitimacy and closure for my seemingly eccentric childhood musical preferences, even after all these years.

I was a young kid when I first heard ELO, but it wasn’t until Don’t Bring Me Down when I became a mega-fan. I used to sit near my radio/cassette recorder and wait for their songs to be played on the radio after that (when my dad finally bought a stereo tape deck/radio) and even recorded all the ELO songs I could get when CBS finally aired Zanadu on TV. When my parents finally realized how hooked I was on Lynne’s music, they bought me their next album when it came out and it became my favorite album ever-TIME. I’m still hooked on it, my kids love it, and I have all of Jeff Lynne’s and ELO’s albums. I’ve now seen Jeff Lynne’s ELO perform twice, including the VetsAid concert in San Diego last November, and I’ll be taking the entire family out to California to see his final show stateside. I’d like to say I finally woke up and initiated getting out of the relationship, but she too cheated on me. At first I was devastated, but quickly I realized how fortunate I was to be rid of her from my life.
I’m now married for 33 years and have my soulmate.
    I really appreciate this song!

Kelly Groucutt had a lot of vocal moments with ELO...he has a slight lisp in his vox where I can pick them out. As well as "Poker" and co lead on "Nightrider", he also sang lead on "Down Home Town". He is featured on "Above The Clouds" from A New World Record and spotty moments all over Out of the Blue, one of the weirdest being "Sweet is The Night" where he sings the first two Pre-Choruses ("and the light, that shines...") but not the third which I always thought was a headscratcher.........Sources say he did sporadic lead vox punches in "Horace Wimp" and "Mission" as well

Kelly Groucutt has quite a distinctive voice, a sort of falsetto without actually being a falsetto. It's kinda throaty but in a good way. It paired really well with Jeff's voice.

What a FANTASTIC song ! I LOVED it the very 1st time I heard it years ago! I tell people all the time that the 1970's got the BEST music ever! Remember, the 70's is known as the decade of the "SONGWRITER"! 😀👌🏾

Evil Woman is the first song I heard from ELO. After hearing it, I had to find as much of their music as I could get.
I had a habit of listening to this song any time I had a bad breakup. It reminded me that it could have been worse.
ELO will always be a part of my playlist. They will always be one of my favorite groups of all time.

Love ELO. ELO greatest hits album was my first vinyl album - asked for it for Christmas 1979 when I was 7 because I wanted to be like my big brother. The last concert he and I went to together was ELO. He committed suicide in 2019, so I treasure those memories and can’t help but think of him every time I hear ELO

I was a kid watching the movie, Xanadu, and FELL IN LOVE with the soundtrack! The voice just TOUCHED something in my SOUL! When I found out the name of the band, ELO, I Started looking for everything and ANYTHING that I could get my hands on. Later in life, middle school to be exact, I realized I was an Electric Light Orchestra fan! I love Jeff Lynn’s music and I am NOT AFRAID to tell people. I mean, COME ON! How can ANYONE hate Mr Blue Skies?! Evil Woman has such a funky feel to it!! I loved being 10 yrs ols and dancing around in my room to Evil Woman! Why ELO was so frowned upon I’ll NEVER know…

I had forgotten once month to mail in my order and as it turned out this ELO album was the selection of the month so they’d send it to you if you didn’t send your fork back and tell them not to send it. I was blown away-no other musical act was like ELO. They had such a distinct sound. Thanks for another great video POR!

ELO was one of the best bands EVER. George Harrison called him "Beatle Jeff". And to this day Jeff can't read music lol! The amazing lyrics, the rock combined with the strings, the fun they had on stage performing... the best time for live music back then! (I wish I had been old enough to go to concerts back then) Jeff has never divulged the identity of the "Evil Woman" but I'm sure she knows who she is. Jeff said this is his last tour so if you want to feel the experience you better hurry!

I was 10 years old when that song hit the airwaves. It made me an ELO fan. I didn't have the funds at that age to buy albums, but I ended up having a big collection of 45's composed of several ELO radio hits. I played Evil Woman and Telephone Line over and over, forever cementing the lyrics in my head. Today, I'll forget to pickup milk at the grocery, but the lyrics to these songs will never leave me. Thanks for such a a great channel!
