Thank you to everyone who has commented and enjoyed this video! I am currently only working for fun. My shop is closed, but I am actively setting up a workshop so that I can get back in the game! I moved back to Alaska, and am currently living in my tiny cabin in the woods trying to help the people in my village bring back the Haida language and traditional harvesting. Thank you, and I wish you great luck in whatever path makes you happy. Damaan agang hl kingang! (Take good care of yourself!)

I am not into jewelry making and only saw your video when I was searching for videos on how to solder, but I have to say, this looked really cool and I never realized the amount of work that actually goes into making a ring. Thanks a bunch.
I have been solding a few years now and I have gotten to the goal of making tube settings. I have found this operation to be very hard. I have dropped more stones and more parts than ever before! Ty for this video.
Thank you! I'm learning to solder rings because it makes me happy to make things I love! excited to get better;)
really helpful. i am new and studying at uni but i may as well leave and watch this instead. great teacher. thanks
Same here! I was looking for advanced smt type soldering techniques and this video intrigued me so i decided to give it a shot! Very interesting, it's a lot more pretty than the grungy job we do as electronics solderers (usually, if it shines we're happy)! Great video :D
Im a professional jewelry maker for more than 15 years. It is my first time to see a very nice hand making a jewelry job.
Ok.. that's a bit weird :/
Simian Gimp
Every video by a woman has to get creeps commenting. :-(
I'm so glad I found this tutorial. I'm in a jewelry school, and the soldering concept is still a bit hard to get used to. (As I come from a family of wire wrappers)
Thank you so much.
Thank you for posting this.
I'm just now learning how to solder, and make jewelry, rather than just designing.
such a great tip to hammer the solder flat. never thought to do that! thanks!
thank u for this ! but more importantly U WONDERFUL WOMAN DOING trully great work in your magical cabin in the woods !!! very goodly :)
Billie Hands '
Thanks you helped me a bunch, have a Merry Christmas
Thank you for posting this, very helpful
Great job. Thanks
I like when she sqeeks her voice higher, when shes doing delicate things...nice vid.
Bill Stark
I use a squeeze bottle for my flux too, it's so convenient!
Found you from Ganoksin post. Thank you for this nice demonstration :)
Nice camera distance, angle and focus. Thanks!
Good lesson for soldering. Jewelry my hobby too.
👍 Thanks! 🙂
You're have such a sweet voice so pleasant to listen 2 u thanxs or the video
must try this myself. thanks for posting
Awesome video, thank you.
Can you show us how to make the bezel from scratch
Thanks you this was very helpful!
Great tip on hammering wire solder flat. Xo
Can you do a tutorial on the small bezel cup and setting the stone? I am looking to make a ring like this but there are no videos.
Have you used a tube chinar to make the bezel setting? And if so wht did you use to bur out the cradle part for the stone to sit in? Cheers
Hey, great video. Very dirrect in how it should be made (makes my life easy). Just curious as to what the wire gage is? or sizing is? :D As I went back and couldn't find it in the video.
Thanks alot for this! Is this a propane flamer thing? How come the stream of the flame doesn't blow away the tiny pieces of silver just before they are soldered and the flame blows like wind directly on them??
Thanks for the video. What type of torch were you using? Please get back into jewelry making.
It's a Bernzomatic propane plumbing torch from the hardware store. Standard attachment.
Hi! How did you get the wire band to be circular. I've tried hammering it down on a mandrel but it turns out irregular circle every time. Your help is appreciated!
Thanks for the great video! Was just wondering, wouldn't it be easier to just use a very thin solder (into very thin threads) and then just use a self heating soldering iron?
I love this video. How thick was the wire you used for the ring? I tried something similar before, but I always got solder lumps, and if I heated the ring too long the wires would melt.
Do you have much experience soldering with the stone already set? Is that safe for CZ and diamonds?
Hi. Thanks for posting this. What type of solder and flux are you using? Anything special?
Thanks
Nothing special. I use silver sheet solder, typically in hard and medium. And the flux I like is the fluorescent green/yellow stuff from RioGrande.
I love this video...♥ , what kind of bezel is that one and where i can get it. Why you put diferents
kind of solders.
I love your sweet voice 😍
thanks for video it was really useful .
Just to know what you use i mean chemical while soldering?
It's called My T Flux from RioGrande.com.
this is a fantastic video! if you see this, could you please make a video on how to make the bezel?? thankyou!
How would you reattach a sterling silver band on the side of a bezel that already has a stone on it? one of my citrine rings broke off where the band attaches to the bezel around the stone and I'm worried about trying to re-solder it and damage the stone
Hi. Let me start by saying I'm inexperienced but have been learning about gemstones and soldering, etc. this past year. According to the extensive gemstone list in the link below, Citrine cannot be torch fired.
studylib.net/doc/8154687/gemstone-firing-guide
I have seen videoes where people submerged a gemstone in water while soldering a ring but can't remember what type of stone it was. If your ring is very sentimental it might be a good idea to remove it from the bezel before repairing. It's definitely safer for your stone. Sorry, I don't have any video links but you should be able to find some videos here about stone removal and even videos where the stone is submerged in water. Not sure this was helpful but good luck to ya' just the same! 🍀🙂
Nice video!!! Can you tell me what kind of torch are you using? (model and brand).
Many Thanks!!!!
Hi Juan, it's just a basic blue propane plumbing torch from the hardware store. Bernzomatic, I think it's called. I use the standard attachment, and sometimes get a friend to hold a second torch if the project is big and needs more heat.
The solder wouldn't jump as much if you heated it with the flux...the flame heats the flux which will hold the solder in place. Have tweezers nearby though because there is always the risk of them popping :)
Thanks! I have found that with the super tiny pieces, I prefer to let it jump around and bother re-placing it after the flux has hardened. Others should definitely play around and see what works best for them. For me, I can see more exactly where the solder will sit this way. It helps me keep from having an accidental bit of solder get on the silver, which bugs the heck out of me.
M24A6, huh? Lovin' the vocal :)
that is beuityfull work.
Thank you! I'd love to get started again. I miss it.
Stephanie Hamar ME TOO its been awhile for me i do wire wraping or use to.
I USE TO DO WIRE WRAPING BUT HAD TO STOP BECAUSE NO ONE BUY IT
do you pickle rings, or any other metal after you solder them?
Great tutorial, I will try this one out. Did you make the ring band first then saw out the exact amount for the bezel setting to fit?
Thanks! I typically cut the wire to the correct size while flat, then shape it round, then file it to sit flush with the sides of the bezel.
Wondering if, for such tiny components, if silver tubing could be cut to size instead of wire you have to solder?
Absolutely. It would probably be a lot easier. I like to work with limited supplies and do it the hard way. But yes, you could definitely fabricate a setting with two sizes of silver tubing, or with heavy wall tubing and a stone setting bur that drills a seat down into the metal.
What gauge do you use to make these rings?
Successful work !!!
Really hope you see this! How did you make the ring band? is it just sterling silver wire?
Yep, you've got it. It's just wire that I cut to the correct length and filed down to sit nicely against the bezel.
It look very difficult , you have a great experience !
Pretty Profesional
Please, what solder is the best for soldering silver? I bought solder 70% Ag and it doesnt work. Thanks
50% silver and copper and zinc alloy is used to soldaire
Great vid!
What's that heater nozzle called? Can we buy online?
Help! I make necklaces that use tiny gold plated jump rings. How do you keep the rings from breaking (separating) after the necklace in done. They pull apart.
Hi, I don't make necklaces very often, but when I do, I tend to handmake the findings and solder the jump rings so they don't open. I would imagine you may also be able to find small rings that double around like a keychain does, or something like that.
How do you clean the jewelry afterward? Obviously, you don't want the black, oxidized look on your final piece.
Yep, I used a pickle solution I purchased from RioGrande. Polishing can remove it as well, sometimes. It's easier with the pickle.
10% sulphuric acid.
*****
True.
can you show us how you set the stone
This girl sounds like she would be a cool friend lol
nicely made! did you make the ring your wearing too? that one is nice too
thank you :)
😍
are you using a pencil torch?
How did u make such a small bezel video please
Sterling tube
a little more please there is no where that has a how to fro such small things! did u drill it out or just add the bottom in closer part?
You can buy different width of tubing...insert a. Seat for the stone, lets in more light.....
They also sell tube cutters....
ok so drill a seat into the tube? then use the bezel pusher to close the top around?
Christy Troutman
It's funny how you start your phrases with tough-man's voice and finish them with sweetey-tiny-mouse voice :P
ha-hah!!!
guys are so funny.
Bless your hearts!
Where did you get the 3rd hand tweezers
I have these from Rio Grande: www.riogrande.com/Product/round-third-hand-base-with-tweezers/502066
would've liked to see a major closeup at the moment the solder melts but nonetheless thats f**king cool
seek Beaducation.com on uTube. If you haven't already found it. You will learn the safe, clean and proper technique, tools and chemicals to use. You'll have much better success with your jewelry soldering. Good luck.....it IS effing kool!!
lancsFrogger
What kind of block is that
that is a big torch, after your done with the jewelry you can go sweat some pipe..... buy a jewelers torch, oxy/accet or oxy/propane (what i use) and life will be much simpler...... I only worked with silver once and mostly done gold or platinum, with the gold you just ball up the solder with heat and use a pick to pick it up and place it where you like, done prong re tipping with flat solder and flat gold stock.....simple
keep up the good work
What type of torch is that?
It's a plumbing torch from the hardware store. Like this one - www.lowes.com/pd_148755-13877-309272_0__?productId=3130885

Cute voice when you start mumbling.
what is that green liquid?
ernis994 That is likely a yellow fluid flux called MyTFlux, which you can get online (check out Rio Grande).
agentium wire makes soldering better.
yep its straight

yes... "accidentally clicked..." seems legit
live and let live
I'll be honest I didn't understand a thing you said in that video. I don't even know why I clicked on it. But that was a great tutorial otherwise. ;)
Not everyone can be nuclear physicists. Some people are looking for hobbies or ways to make a little extra money. And some people watch things like this simply to learn new things. We're not all vain, horrible people. Why are you even here if it is only to criticize?
I even saw some legs here
I realy enjoy your video! I see that ur legs are naked. And u wearing jevelery. Now im thinking about half naked woman cutting tube! :D Your idea about metal needle awesome! Heating tweezer very good idea.
Remember that u should clean parts before soldering,In my experience leaving fingerprints on object they contain lil bit fat! Very good
Need to work on the vocals.
You have a hot voice
nice...legs!!
A lot harder to do than it looks.
I'm hoping to put up a couple more videos this year, now that it's been a while (over five years!) and I'm getting rusty. This was the only tutorial video I made when I was selling jewelry full-time, and I'd like to have better quality videos out there so it doesn't have to be harder than it looks! When I first started, I had just been laid off from a good job, and it was so hard to find the info I needed to get going on my own with $100 budget for tools and no experience. If you have any feedback for how to make things more helpful, I'm interested!
Well, you obviously have a gift. You are an excellent teacher. You've had a good many views. People are always interested in how other people do things. I do know what you mean about trying to keep going and pay the bills, jewelry making is not a cheap hobby. Of course, it is great to be able to sell what you make. These rings are very popular right now.
By 'soddering' do you mean 'soldering' (with a pronounceable letter L)? By 'sodder' do you mean 'solder' (with a pronounceable L)? Are your armed land forces SOLDIERS or SODDIERS? Same rule, same pronunciation.
+Gordon Burns In the US, the "l" is quite properly not pronounced.
English is an odd language; you simply cannot generalize pronunciations from one word to another this way, especially from one country to another. However you do it elsewhere doesn't make it the One True Way. No need to make fun of someone who is saying it absolutely correctly just because you are uneducated about the oddities of our language - and dialectical variations.
I was getting really p-ssed off too Gordon!!!!! I have heard this pronunciation from a few people, is it an American thing????????? I'll stick to ENGLISH english thank you.........
And they were soooo sexy, accompanied with the blonde hair.
well I won't listen to you because I love making jewelry!
Solder.
SO-L-DER
It has an L in it. God that's annoying.
The correct pronunciation is "sodder" as the word has a french origin.
Simian your annoying, totally uncalled for
+Simian Gimp .
WOW....really, that is your comment on this video? You might want pick something that you are right about before making a statement like this. Maybe you SHOULD, if you COULD or WOULD have a look at a list of words with a silent letter L. I think you might just find a word like solder. Or maybe have a TALK or WALK with some FOLKS that might tell you to CALM down and put some SALVE or BALM on your chapped PALM and take your CALF for a WALK and stretch it out. Have a coffee with some HALF & HALF, even an ALMOND or some SALMON and think of our great president LINCOLN and just enjoy this great video. And if all else fails, go to google and a computer pronounce it for you.
sol·der
ˈsädər/
noun
1.
a low-melting alloy, especially one based on lead and tin or (for higher temperatures) on brass or silver, used for joining less fusible metals.
How long ago though Eleanthe?
that's why male should stay away from jewelry making.
