- I've had quite a few people asking how I built my log splitter press, so here's the whole thing!

wow....really awesome bit of kit dude...you are so on your way now....you have worked so hard ...good on you dude....
Very nice Sam, great idea to use the log splitter, the treadle will finish it off very nicely! 👍
Very nice. We posted this video on our homemade tools forum and people loved it :)
Awesome, thanks!

Awwww, missed oppourtunity to call it Mr Squishy. Nice looking build! Came out amazing. The sticker just makes it even more handsome :P
Really nice Sam, i have been doing utube research on power hammer builds but think I just changed my mind!
Sam, thank you for sharing this.
That looks like a reasonabley easy fit out for the conversation from log splitter into forge press thanks for the advice and info on this conversation
Nice setup Sam. I like how you set up the dies to change them out 👍
🔨on!!
definately a good set up
You should disable the detent that holds the lever in the retract position. Easy fix and it makes it much nicer to operate.
Hey mate great build absolutely love it 😁👍
Nice clean build.
I've been thinking of making one with the same log splitter, but keeping as a log splitter with changeable dies. That way I can use it too split fire wood as well.
I did consider that, but the extra fiddling to make it work I decided against it
Alot easier too convince the wife that I have bought a log splitter to keeps the house warm, that doubles as a press, than yet another tool 😂
Awesome Sam!
Figured you'd have a video on this! Very thought-provoking. I'm still trying to decide between a hydraulic press and a treadle hammer, knowing they are meant for different tasks, but I will have space for only one of them. Hmm.
If I had to choose I'd choose the press every time
Very nice sir!!!
Nicely done mate. Good solution given the cost of hydralic componets in Aus. Just curious if the pump is a regulare 10A single phase? no specs given on the website that supples the units
Thanks mate! Yeah just a 10a single phase, runs on any wall socket
@@SamTownsBladesmith Cheers mate, think I've found my forging press
Super helpfull, cheers
Great set-up!
Do you have any video of any hot iron forging?
Many of my more recent videos feature me using the press! Check out my teaching Speargrass Forge to make hammers video!
What are the specs on the motor and pump ? And the feed valve
Great job, Sam. Now that you've used it for a few months, do you feel that the 2 hp motor is sufficient or would you recommend going larger? Thanks.
The 2hp seems more than adequate for sure
Awesome! Great to know! Thanks so much for the reply!
Awesome build. However, why so much travel? Not a criticism. Just curious.
Thanks mate, mostly for upsetting bar stock, but also for using to set handles on hammers. Because it doesn't have auto return, it's no hardship to have the extra travel
@@SamTownsBladesmith Thanks. Makes sense. I enjoyed the video.
were l can buy a 20 ton log splitter?
I bought mine off ebay.
Sweet press! When you edit if you can up the fps to 60 it'll help a bit with the choppyness👍
Unfortunately all of my videos are currently filmed and edited from my phone, so fps adjustment isn't really viable
nice intro man
dang mate got a splitter to make the same out of.... you beat me to it.....
Hey Sam nice press mate. I'm just about to start building one using the same Baumr-AG 20 t splitter.
I notice you said the tank your dad made was 8 litres capacity. It looks bigger than 8 litres, is that right?
And if it is did you get that from the original slitter tank capacity?
Still waiting for my splitter to be shipped to Tassie so just planning now and want to make sure I get the size right when I build one.
Cheers Sam
Andy
Hey mate, yep it's 8 litres, the 20t comes with an integral 7lt tank, so we actually gave it an extra litre! If you have any questions about the build please feel free to email me at samtownsbladesmith@gmail.com
@@SamTownsBladesmith OK great, thanks for the info mate. Very helpful. Your a champion 👍
Hola , me podés dar especificaciones del motor?
Totally stealing the idea for the die change out...
You're more than welcome to!
