    Maybe I am just easily impressed but did any one notice that the guy doing this seems to be 15-16. admittedly with some labor help but you guys are critiquing a young man not a seasoned machinist.

    Another limit switch on a quick adjustment then the press wont go up all the way constantly.
    this would work as an iron worker. Make a shear module, bending dies all day long and a punching head.
    What you have there is excellent.

    Don't listen to the negative comments, your welding will work/hold for that application. If the weld breaks you can just weld it again (I doubt it will). What is the source for the die plate holders? Those look nicely machined.

    Your MIG welding: You should be angling the nozzle, BEHIND your direction of motion, not ' following ' the arc. This, will preheat the metal going FORWARD, a little. Look for a fried bacon sound, from the arc, with about 1/2 inch of wire, from nozzle end, to arc/workpieces. There is a fine, balance, between wire speed, material thickness, and arc amperage. Most MIG welders, are only good to about 1/4 inch thick normal mild steel. .

  • @richardcrackel1521
    @richardcrackel1521 4 года назад

    Nice press for sure.
    Too much fabrication is shown. 0 technical info on cylinders, pump and motor.
    When cylinder is resting in the fully retracted position, is the pump under load and relief valve activated? Should be in a neutral position, oil free flowing back to tank. Not through relief valve.

    Where can I get the plans for this? I seen a cadd lay out or something similar, I want to build one! That is awsome, 4 seems like a better option because of price and redundancy. If 1 fails your still good, even if 2 fail you can still keep working at a limited amount. So ya, that's a very good idea it seems.

    Damn, nice machine. Think it just miiiiight be a little too much for forging though. It flattens the materials, but I think it'd destroy your work if doing Damascus. I could be wrong though, be interesting to find out.

    Bad welding technique. Wire is too long from the tip of the nozzle. Stop weaving the weld, make multi passes is needed. You really need to make better welds on joints that will be under so much stress.

    Great build! Wish I had the encouragement that you obviously have when I was your age. Your dad deserves a thumbs up too. Hope you went back and did more than single pass welds on that H-frame that will be containing almost 60,000 lbs of force. A failure under that kind of pressure is like an explosion. I'll be subscribing and looking forward to your Damascus work.

      If this has 3 inch cylinders at 3000psi a pretty standard pump pressure you are looking at almost 85,000 lbs and they look more like 4 inch and if that is the case it is just over 150,000lbs. He has 4 cylinders. radius x radius x pii x psi x 4 cylinders. I would definitely add a few passes.

      Why not build your own. it is a pretty simple concept if you know how to weld. The hydros are real simple. You do not need one this big either. 4 cylinders is way overkill and that 3 phase pump he has to have to get the flow rate is not cheap.
