I've often thought it would be mildly amusing to ask a visitor to Bristol if they would like to see the suspension bridge and then take them to gaol ferry.

Sparke Evans Park footbridge is a fairly integral part of the Bristol to Bath footpath, which is a rather major hiking-route right of way in The Avon Valley... so, I certainly would not call it useless...
myself I however liked best the Goal-Ferry bridge, not even as a suspension bridge, but for the very heavy and industrial lattice, reminiscent of a railway structure, to me, it could be indeed a truss-bridge with purely decorative towers, and, it would not reduce my enjoyment of it for what it is... an early industrialist piece of very Bristolian architecture.

I work in Wapping warf in cargo, and this bridge closing absolutely decimated the businesses around here, we used to get tons of regulars from bedminster but now it’s a 15min walk round so many just go to west street, one of the main causes of wild beer closing

Is this where we request the 5-10 minute rant on the closure of Goal Ferry Bridge?

basically saying how it may seem like 10 min detour isn't the end of the world but on foot that could be doubling a journey time, could be the difference between being able to nip into town on a lunch break or not being able to, so you might end up driving somewhere at the weekend to do those errands instead; and if you're on a bike or scooter then bedminster bridge roundabout is much more scary and dangerous than a segregated route; and you'd be tempted to indignantly declare that they wouldn't treat cars like this, except whoops, look at redcliffe and bristol bridges, apparently they do; and how Marvin vaguely waved a pointy finger of blame at his predecessors for letting it get to that state, and how that isn't very credible or helpful because he's been in for six years and if the predecessors were actually negligent then have a proper inquiry instead of making snide digs; and the absurd cherry on top is letting heavily used bridges decay to the point of prolonged closure while having spent millions on bridges to absolutely nowhere used by absolutely nobody (arena island), except that probably isn't fair because the money for that came from entirely different pots that were ringfenced and couldn't have been spent maintaining gaol ferry, but even so it's kind of stupid isn't it. But talking is SO SLOW compared to writing, I'm still not really used to that. decided the 'it's inconvenient' stuff was stating the obvious, the "Marvin trying to score cheap party political points instead of having an adult conversation about accountability" was also stating the obvious; and the bridges-to-nowhere stuff could get its own future video

@@PedestrianDiversions It was closed for months when they replaced the whole deck around 2006 . The daily detour was surprisingly irritating.

Very good, enjoyed that Video. What about the Newbridge at St.Annes? It was known as the Concrete Suspension Bridge. But better known for walking over the supports when imbibed with strong ale, after leaving “grab a Granny” Night at the Arnos Court Parkside Club on route to Kingswood.

perfect timing to turn off all the traffic lights at bedminster bridge roundabout and have extra heavy traffic backing up along coronation road. just to make the detour more daunting and dangerous and polluted and unpleasant.

Yeah would have been nice beforehand but I'd settle for it even being proposed in future. It rather boggles my mind that in a city with a supposed housing crisis, there's that Asda car park covering about ten square miles, which I've never seen full. So I suspect you could build on some of it without even causing detriment to its current function. Not to mention it would be easy enough to build flats on top of some basement/multi storey parking and thus add flats while preseving the same number of spaces, if really needed. Pack that area 8-10 storeys high, reflecting the scale of existing buildings around it, and you should generate more than enough money for a foot/cycle bridge between St John's road and the Louisana. Yet I hear not even the faintest rumbling of any such proposals

I think cyclists should dismount, then throw themselves off the bridge and take their bicycle with them. Isn't it the law that cyclists are not allowed to cycle on pedestrian paths like this?

I had thought that this might be interesting as I know all the bridges well. However it was a dull whine delivered in a boring monotone voice and was about 10 minutes too long.
